Wonder if Mcnultys recall is more tactical than anything else.Not sure wilder has the desire to play him as he suggested it more a case of not wanting to give Bradford any form of a helping hand.
Not sure if anyone can confirm what % Bradford were paying of his wages but say it's half then Bradford need to use that money on a replacement taking them out of the market for our targets also with Bradford being in and around the top 6 Wilder won't want McNulty helping them in anyway. Even if he scores one goal between now and May but it comes in a 1-0 win. This is how I view this anyway rather rot with us for 5 months then help a rival out

And my interpretation of his sub appearances early on for us was that he absolutely didn't resemble anything that could be considered 'competitive'.

Why would a businessman's wait till the summer to scrap around for a Championship striker ?
He knows that NONE of our strikers will score regularly in the Championship.
The only one who can score regularly in League 1 , is getting older & slower and it will be 3 years since Leeds decided he couldn't help them in the Championship.
So we will need a brand new strike force up there , with Lavery as sub IF he develops.
The required investment is huge. But it will certainly be bigger in the summer.
So , who is our businessman ?
McCabe , the Prince , CW ? Or a combination ?
Can we for once get on the front foot and get ahead of the game ?
Let's be proactive , look where reactive has taken us.

As an old man I am not prone to facetious posts but, if the 'new striker's name is unbelievable then...... Wilder brought Clarke in as a tall, taller striker. That appears not to have worked out, so he is probably looking for a Clarke type replacement. I would think he is looking short term and here is my thought, if indeed his reputation is unbelievable, Crouch. No I haven't been drinking, I don't touch alcohol.

Isn't it 3 clubs in a calendar year? I seem to remember when Sol Campbell left Notts County after 26 seconds he had to wait until January before he re-signed with arsenal. As a free agent he was eligible to sign outside the windows but for the amount of clubs thingy-merr-Bobby?

I do think what we don't want, is a Prima Donna type, well known name. This group of players are very close, it's obvious to see and we don't need someone coming in and rocking the boat. In Wilder we trust.

On current form, I seriously suggest you are writing off Billy far too quickly.
I would point out to you that the Leeds side in the championship 3 years ago being a shadow of the side it is today, and who saw fit to deploy young William as a left sided midfielder for the most part !!!
I take your points as regards the others and that if promoted, investment in the squad will need to be significant.
But, IMHO, we do currently have 4 or 5 players of genuine Championship quality. Maybe a few others can develop too (Whiteman / Lavery).

No one thought including me Bassett's team would have marched on to two promotions ( the 2nd one was more exciting than the 1st )

I must say the way we play now is far more technical than under Harry but that was a tremendous acheavement to keep our top flight place.
The midfield which Wilder has put together is as good as any we have had in the last forty years (accepting div 1 )
The managers job will be to bring other areas up to the midfield standards and I think he will, a lot to expect to go through 2 divisions like Harry
but if Wilder gets the support its a possibility,momentum is a big thing in football ,we have it !! can we kick on on ? I say yes.

It seems the Bradford fans were impressed with Ched Evans yesterday.
Many saying he stood out as being far too good for a struggling Chesterfield team.
Rumours are going round that Bradford are interested in him.
In general their fans would love to see him signed up playing at Valley Parade.

Well, the Bantams need another centre forward much more urgently than we do, so I'm not surprised, really.
I see Scunthorpe have signed Craig Davies so it looks like they have given up on meeting Ched's wages. A wise decision in my opinion and one I hope we have already taken.
It sounds like he has lost his edge, missing a couple of good chances, however with a better team around him, he could do well

Evans has clearly still got it, it's just not going for him in front of goal. He had a spell like that for us, shots hitting the post etc, before they eventually started flying in on a regular basis. Being in L1 helped, as did being in a good team. Both those things still apply with us. But it's looking increasingly unlikely that he'll sign for us now, in fact it's been quiet about him in general.

Oh he's definitely lost his edge mate! No doubt about it. I was down at the Proact the other week watching them when they beat Bolton - and Evans is not the player he was when he last played for us, but then again, no-one would expect him to be would they? It's probably going to take him another 6 months to get back to anywhere near that level of sharpness that he had. But, I can tell you something...he's still a class act. He causes problems for defenders, he can hold the ball up and turn on a sixpence and has a lethal shot. All that's missing is that extra yard of speed that he had before. Can he get it back? Of course he can - but he just needs more time and games under his belt. Would he be capable of making a GOAL SCORING contribution to this Sheffield United team - you bet he could! Would he cost a lot of money - no. Would he like to play for us again - yes. I mean, it's not rocket-science is it - let's go get him and see what happens. If it doesn't work out then fair enough, but we won't have lost much in the process.

Heard Bolton are signing Le Fondre too. Lots of activity in the striker department with the top sides in our league. Be interesting to see if we make a move for someone
It's best to move on mate, I too would like us to sign him but we won't be so let's see who Wilder brings in.

Just out of interest which players do you think are Championship quality ?
I have said on an other thread that I went through our squad and put a tick against anyone who I thought would be Championship quality, a question mark against who I thought could be, and a cross against who wouldn't be.
I didn't have any ticks alot of question marks and some crosses.
