Cheers Roy.

Sounds like they are full of confidence and why not, they are on a great run at home. Going to be very tough for us but those Southend fans going on about the shambles at BDTBL earlier in the season may not be aware that we are a very different side now.

UTB

Thanks Roy.
They keep calling us Sheffield and BDTBL "Bramhall Lane".
I hope we stuff them!
To be fair we call them Saarfend as well! If we do get out of this league the one thing I think I'll miss is the generally balanced nature of the opposition fans. The Premier League is becoming more a product, less a sporting competition, and I fear this is filtering down to the Championship as well. As much as I want to win promotion, footy at this level has a pleasing edge of reality to it.

Because there isn't a Southend United and a Southend Summat Else?

Interesting that 6 of the starting line up against southend at BDTBL are not in our starting 11 now ! so its a completely different team and formation which I think was 4-4-2
Heres hoping that that our different personnel and formation pay off on Saturday ! Cant be worse as that was a pathetic display and one we deserved to lose.

The other 3 losses we could argue were unlucky to lose at Bolton (definitely should have won) Millwall (should have drawn) and Walsall (should have won)
Please lets get a result - at least a point would be useful - 4 out of the 2 away games I would settle for now

With all due respect Southend, as much as I'd like to see us stuff you and you are doing quite well, I still don't see this as a"titanic encounter "

But if you had to quantify the amount of respect that's due... Would it fill a mug or a teaspoon?

“I think our form and style has been excellent in recent months ( 12 unbeaten I think ? ) , but I also thought we looked a bit off the pace against Charlton and by all accounts the same yesterday.

That's what I like to hear. They're warming up nicely for a defeat after their long unbeaten run.

Tough game tomorrow, but it also appears that Southend have began to start counting the toll of a build up of fixtures over the festive period whilst we have rested a couple at Bury on Monday.

I'm wary of the threat that Southend pose, but i also think with the confidence running right through the club at the minute, and with the run we are on, we have it in ourselves to go out there and come back from Roots Hall with a result.

I'm going 2-1 Blades.

Quietlly confident just setting off for the weekend thanks as always Roy utb

If we are to win this league then these are the games you put down your mark.

Team doing well, at their place and full of confidence...we turn up and dominate play and restrict them to may be a couple of shots on target and beat them 1-0. Do that and it makes the point that we are the best side in the division, can beat good, poor....home or away any side in this division with any team or formation we pick from a core of 16 players.

Way I see it...,a chance to get us down to only needing 11 more wins for promotion.

I'm more confident about going to Roots Hall (it's something like that, who came up with that whacked out name for a football stadium?), than any premier league stadium, so they can put that in their bongs and think of a better name for their ground while they are about it.

“January is a huge month for us.
Blades followed by Rochdale followed by Bolton all at home, Fleetwood away and Scunny at home first weekend of Feb. "

So, Scunny have had their tough run and faltered badly. Now for Southend to do the same, starting Saturday.

Hope not. I hope we beat them and then they twat Bolton and Scunny, whilst we continue to pick up points.

I think Southend will be without Ben Coker and Stephen McLaughlin. That's their left side, and a big strength of theirs.

So we'll be looking to have plenty of joy down our right hand side. That suits us with Freeman in the form he's in, and Duffy and Coutts drifting over there.

That's exactly what I just thought, but I can't recall him being terrible, he looked OK at Bolton.

Thought he actually looked ok for the games he played in, and obviously scored the winner v Oxford to give us our first win. Good to see him back on the bench last week but he'll have a hell of a struggle to get a game now.

Absolutely. Realistically though, they're gonna drop a lot of points over the next few weeks and fall right back down into mid-table. Scunny have only won once in their last six.

Did you watch Spurs the other night? They seemed to have a similar ploy to use Kyle as a decoy and switch the play to Rose on the left, although ironically the goals came from Erickson crossing from the centre right.
Chelsea kept packing their left, as if they had identified Kyle as the big threat, which meant Rose kept getting plenty of space (and he's a much better crosser than Kyle).

We could do a similar thing, getting Lafferty to attack a lot to drag them over but keep switching quickly over to Freeman. Then mix it up a bit by getting Lafferty to cut a couple back for Duffy to cross in.

Depending on how Southend are set up, of course.
