think our two owners need a bit of credit ,we have now a great lad in charge who knows football inside out ,they are letting him run the club from top to bottom and now backing him in the transfer market .this club is on the move jump aboard and enjoy the ride .HRH and McCabe well done .

I'm enjoying it whilst it lasts but the real test will come when we hit a difficult patch under Wilder. Some fans will inevitably turn on him when that time comes, that group always will, but hopefully the board will remember the adaptability that he showed after a difficult start this season, and after some of his signings didn't come off.

You would like to think we just progress and progress with investment levels increasing as we get bigger and better

That kind of talk will get you hung on here.

The correct party line is that McCabe has been bleeding the club dry for years and the prince hasn't got a pot to piss in. If we'd spent the semi finals money properly we'd have signed Pogba and we'd be top of the Premier.

In the land of S2, wages don't count. Any lump sum in, should be matched by an at least equal payment out. Wages are paid out of some magic 'other jar', or by goblins or elves or the DSS or the Tooth Fairy or........

You forgot the Desso, you never forget the Desso!

If there's any fool who thinks a direct family member of the first king of Saudi doesn't have a pot to piss in ,well there isn't much you could do for them

Never forgive!

You think Adams and DCL were "key players" when they weren't even in the team?

No I didn't and I have never said that.
Also, Wilder seemed quite happy to sell them and use the money to strengthen elsewhere.

I do think that Blackman, Maguire and Murphy were key players when they were sold and we didn't replace them.

Dad and the Prince, they thank you.......

Or "Onlyscorespenalties, Leadboots and Nesh" as their critics would have it before they were sold.

Id hope the board can see the goodwill creeping back in and won't do anything silly this JTW. CW said he wanted more than one in, let's see what happens.

If we reach the 1st Feb without one of our key players being sold, I will be the first to give credit to our owners for their change of policy.

Exactly usually a decent signing is balanced up by selling someone.

We may actually intend to get promotion this season.

We'll get back to you on this on 31/01/17

Wilder's proven me wrong on what I said about him way back when he was just a rumour that Adkins was leaving with him as favourite for the replacement. The board, not so much. That's because the board's record goes back far longer and they have far more to repair. Unless we're stable in the Championship again and looking to push on, we'll still be feeling the pain from the farce that's brought us to League One and kept us here.

One thing I tried to make clear when Wilder came along was that it wasn't the manager himself I had the biggest problem with. What I had a problem with was that the criteria for selecting Adkins had been announced as someone who plays progressive attacking football and with a record of success at this level and higher. Wilder represented, and I still think to an extent represents, a board who had once again completely changed their approach recruitment. A board who appoints a succession of managers with no sense of consistency, and results in wholesale changes season after season, while blindly hoping that this one will be the one who gets it right.

While Wilder has got almost everything right so far, I don't know how much I'm supposed to put down to luck or judgement from the board. While Wilder has shown great nous in players he's brought in, the board sat idly by while Clough did the exact opposite, and while Adkins was barely able to sign anyone (Sharp being a fantastic purchase, his other long term recruits being fairly awful). Giving managers free rein is only as good a policy as the manager in question. Clough's twenty odd signings set us back at least a season to get where we are now.

Appoint enough managers you have to expect one of them will be decent.

I agree. Bloody hell, I'm still upset about Jones and Birchenall. My point was that in the August window things had clearly changed and we brought in key players, funded by getting good money for non-key ones.

I don't think we can say for certain yet that "things have clearly changed".
We didn't sell any "key" players in August because we didn't really have any key players and therefore didn't receive any offers.
On current form, I could well see offers from Championship clubs coming in for Moore, Fleck, Coutts, Duffy and Sharp.

McCabe's response in the past has always been "If an offer comes in from an higher league you cannot keep a player".
Even if the player is under contract. Even if it damages or destroys our chance of promotion to that higher league.
What will be his reaction to any such offer in this transfer window?
If he backs the manager and turns it down that will signal a definite change of policy and be worthy of great praise.
Fingers crossed!

It's worth keeping in mind that the House of Saud - that is, 'direct family members of the first king of Saudi' - number around fifteen thousand. Our boy may or may not be in the upper echelon who have access to silly money, I remember at the time he bought in questions were raised on this point.

It's important to keep some perspective and not get too carried away giving credit to the wrong people just because we're doing really well. Let's not forget that the budget was reduced in the summer AND we sold 2 players for large sums, the money from which is yet to be reinvested.

It is Wilder that needs all the credit, he's done a remarkable job with recruitment given the circumstances. Imagine how we'd be doing if he was given a large budget in the first place and then the Che + DCL money was reinvested.

The progress we have seen is in spite of McCabe/Prince, not because.

Appointing CW, well the Monkey/typewrighter theory springs to mind.

The Wilder Monkey
I will tell you why; so shall my anticipation prevent your discovery, and your secrecy to the King and queene: moult no feather. I have of late, (but wherefore I know not) lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed, it goes so heavily with my disposition; that this goodly frame the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory; this most excellent canopy the air, look you, this brave o'er hanging firmament, this majestical roof, fretted with golden fire: why, it appeareth no other thing to me, than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours. What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an Angel! in apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world! The paragon of animals! And yet to me, what is this quintessence of dust? Man delights not me; no, nor Woman neither; though by your smiling you seem to say so

Many decent points in your post Poker. I'd add that due to the laxness of the board in allowing Clough far too much freedom, I suspect Wilder's aware of this and ensures that he covers his back at every turn. In Wilder we have a canny, intelligent, and aware manager, someone who knows exactly who we need and ensures we do our best to recruit them.
