Bolton fan in peace, we currently stand one point behind you, and one point in front of Scunny, it's so tight up there at the moment that could be any 2 of the current 3, my question is are you playing well enough to maintain your current status, and after seeing Scunny yesterday, they look a decent team, but their fans seem to think they'll fade away, who do you guys think will get automatic promotion?

I think we'll win the league if we do the business we need to this month. And I think if someone comes in for Vela or Zach Clough Bolton are stuffed. Scunny will drop after January imo. Think it will open right up with the chasing pack and United will run away with it.

What do you think?

What do you think?
Think it'll go to the wire, we're not selling Zach or Josh, supposedly 2 loans coming in from Chelsea and Liverpool, but Ameobi is going back, so will seem a lot clearer come the end of January.

Depends if you keep Zach Clough. If you do then I'm pretty sure you'll be in the top 2. Might not be a spectacular team but I think you have the ability to consistently get results, more so than Scunthorpe. Very strong defence and players who can grab the odd goal. Beevers looks to have been a great signing.

We'll probably be in the top 2 if we carry on as we are, we definitely will be if we strengthen adequately this month.

Clubs like you make me sick - cheating finances like you do like other clubs before you have.

If you are financially in the shit how can you sign players?

I think that if you can keep your team in tact, you have a good chance of being promoted. Having said that, you are light up front in my opinion so you will need to keep relying on your defence.

We've played you, Scunny and Bradford away from home so we ought to grind it out from here on in but there's should a long way to go... if Sharp gets injured we could well stutter.

From what I've seen of Bolton, you are well organised but not exactly fantastic. If you don't go up this year, I expect your team will be broken up and you will suffer the same fate as we have over the last few years.

genuine answer - you and scunny are playing for 2nd if we solve a partner for Billy Sharp.

You are still in the FA Cup (EFL??)- Scunny are in the FA cup and EFL trophy.

We have no distractions.

Other issues - can you keep Zac? He was the difference in the FA Cup. I saw that game and your game seems to depend on strength and height.
Will Scunny spend in the JTW window? - Don't think Bolton can - losing 800K per month is a problem that isn't going away and it depends whether you sell any in January.

It's presently a 3 horse race - I genuinely expect us to be looking down on a fight come start of April.

Your present chairman says all your expensive players are out of contract come May - are you really sure you want to go up under those circumstances with a manager like Parkinson?

Whatever happens - I wish you no bad luck or Scunny too - but this league is ours to lose this season.

Ask again, 1st week in February.

UTB

We are not playing quite as well as we were but still playing ok, the stats are the same as they were though 60% possession, 20 odd shots etc, but even so we are still winning, won last four on the trot, interesting to see what happens in the window, but there is a real positive feel amongst the team, management and the fans at the moment unless something ridiculous happens, you know lije a player gets arrested and sent down, I know its a stupid thing to say and couldnt possibly happen other than in films or TV, but it will take something lije that from stopping us finishing in the top two.

We'll win the league and then it's really a case of what happens with Bolton financially, in my view. Seems reasonable some of your better players may have to go which would obviously have an impact.

I think it will probably be the case of 3 teams fighting for second; Bolton, Scunny and then one of the chasing pack(one of them are likely to have a good finish).

I think we have the resources to strengthen the squad, and I am sure CW knows his targets. I can only see us getting stronger.
As for scunny I have no idea of their squad strength. As for bolton, the chairman at the end of the season wants to trim the squad of high paid players, and no plans to bring players in, so looks like any key injuries could be an issue.

Us and Bolton 1 and 2 . Who'll finish first and second could well depend upon what happens this January .

We really do need to strengthen in the transfer window to keep the momentum going . And there is no doubt whatsoever that we will strengthen .

You lot are a well organised , tough and uncompromising team . Very direct at times and hard to beat . As long as you don't get your pants pulled down this January , aside from the odd blip , you'll be fine .

Scunny are about to do a Bradford and if they aren't very careful they may be too far away from the two of us to catch up .

There's still that chance of a team like Rochdale putting on a surge and getting in the mix. You only need to look at Bradford to see how hard a few draws can hurt (lost the fewest games of anyone, but double the draws of Scunthorpe to end up 9pts behind 3rd). It's about small margins and whoever can find that bit extra in the JTW will likely cement their place up top.

February's the key month for us. Peterboro away, then Scunny and yourselves at home over three weekends.

We've had a tendency to bottle vital games, but under Chris Wilder we'll be confident - he's revitalised us.

Get the impression your lot tolerate the dour Parkinson rather than embrace him like we do with Wilder. His negativity might be your curse, cos I doubt Scunny will fall away - they're the real deal IMO (with a squad depth to envy). Plenty of very dangerous teams lie in wait for whoever's consigned to the play-offs.

I don't see Scunny faltering too much. They are a decent side who are organised and know how they are playing.

I think we will buy a couple to ensure we remain the best side in the division regardless of the odd injury. I see us developing methods to cope with teams trying to nullify games, and I can't see us losing more than 3 games for the rest of the season.
We really are that good and I haven't been as impressed with my side for a very very long time.

Like others, I get frustrated when I hear clubs not cutting their cloth accordingly when losing the money they are. I would personally like to see Bolton being forced to lose their better players and rebuild the way we have had to.

You've got to say the momentum is with us. Remember that we were bottom after 4 games and you guys were top with Scunny just behind you. We've clawed back 12 points on yourselves and 9 on Scunny since then over the 20 league games and we've played most of the top teams away. Those stats repeated would see us as clear winners unless you or Scunny can up your game.

But of course previous stats don't mean jack if things change, and any team that gets promoted needs that bit of luck in particular with injuries with the smaller squads at this level. Like somebody else has posted, it might come come down to which club does the best business in the window (or keeps their vital players), but over the last 20 games as-is, it'd be hard to argue that we'll be the team to beat even without my red tinted specs.

I wish you well mate, but hope come April you're fighting it out for second with Scunny.

We've been good/ OK for our last 3 matches and deserved to win
But before that, for about 12 consecutive matches were were very very impressive and had the look of champions. We've only lost 1 game in our last 20 and even the Walsall fans can't believe they won with their 1 shot on target. We had 2 goals dissallowed and missed a last minute penalty and should have easily won but lost 1-0.

We've dominated every match for a while now.
We're a totally different team to the one that lost 1-0 in the first match of the season at your place
And in the 3-2 defeat in the cup the other week we deliberately played a weak side.

Check our stats and it will show we have 60% possession, 20 shots and 10 corners virtually every match.
So you can see from those stats that the problem we have is scoring goals.
We keep saying we are due a 5-0 win but we keep hitting the woodwork, goals disallowed and missing open goals and penalties etc. Once we sort out the forward line logic would suggest we'll win the league with a few games to spare. BUT as we all know, anything can happen really. Teams can mysteriously lose or gain form.

However all the expert pundits in these parts became confident severely weeks ago that we will finish top 2.
Our fans are normally very pessimistic but even the negative fans can see we should win the league.

I think we will be champions by March and that the second place team will probably give us the runner up trophy as well due to being so embarrassed at finishing 30 points behind us.

Personally I'm taking it one game at a time, I refuse to get carried away. We've been let down so many times. We as a team need to achieve our goals one step at a time. First we secure a guaranteed play off place, then we secure promotion and finishing then champions would be a huge bonus.

I tipped Bolton to win the league back in August, not changed my mind since.

I will happily "cashout" on 2nd spot now.

A common theme though from opposition fans when they play Bolton is "they weren't that good and I can't believe they are near the top". Check the stats and they show that Bolton have edged a lot of close games.

Whereas we have dominated virtually all of our last 20 games with opposition fans saying we're the best team they've played. Although we've score a few late winners, in those games we just kept having wave after wave of attacks and goal mouth scrambles, the goal was coming in every match.

At Bramall Lane no team has given us a game since Peterborough a few months ago. Oldham tried the first half but couldn't keep it up and noticeably tired in the 2nd half. Opposition teams just sit back and pack their defence trying to frustrate us.

Scunny must feel it at the moment slipping from first to third in one weekend they had quite a few points lead about 6 games ago.think there confidence will be shattered for a while.next 3 or 4 games will tell expect us and bolton to be 4 or 5 points clear of scunny by then
