Anyone agree with James Shield?

Dave Bassett would be a good choice, knows and respects Wilder, loved by the fans

Mr Pinchy can we have your thoughts on this please?

Personally, I think it's ludicrous idea. How far behind the times is Mr Bassett when it comes to the football world in 2016/17?
I enjoyed 'promotion' and the memories, but the football wasn't exactly 'Class A' ...

Director's Of Football.
Nonsense concept.

I reckon he knows as much as anybody on here, which is probably not a lot, but as I said, as a figure head for the club like dooley I think it would possibly give us a better profile, I am not suggesting he starts running the show or recommending players and getting involved in transfers.

Chris runs the club from top to bottom if he wants a creche he will form the junior tuffty club .I think we are OK as we are .free beer wouldn't go a miss though

I thought it wasn't the fact of having to look after kids, which a crèche may help to alleviate, more so that when you have kids you can't bloody afford to go to games as often as when your tail was just for jollity and pissing through.

Dooley was NEVER a figurehead to me and a lot of Blades I knew/know.

As for the statue, I think it's United getting one over our neighbours, nothing more, nothing less.

The club should have John Harris cast in iron on Cherry Street.

Agree with every word of that. If you look closely at the wording on the statue it says "great son of the steel city" or something to that effect. Can't argue with that but SUFC legend not. Must have been erected during one of KMc's pre-Jessica Ennis moments.

From what I remember hearing, he was just a generally nice bloke, nice to everyone at the club, from the board down to the office junior. I don't know this for a fact as I never knew the bloke personally, but remember Gary Sinclair's voice cracking, as he read out on match day that Derek Dooley had died.

A fitting legacy would be sorting the kop out. Especially given the businesses Mr McCabe is in. He'd be remembered as the man who left a state of the art Kop end, leaving the club with genuine premier league infrastructure at his own expense.

Met him at a couple of functions at the Lane in the 90s and he was a true gent to everyone he spoke to

It's difficult to criticise the statue without being seen as anti-Dooley. I'm really not that, but if we're handing out statues to much loved football administrators then Rooker and Daykin would be in the queue too.

Let's keep it to footballers.

Knowing McCabe he is just as likely to build student flats in place of the kop ;)

Absolute nonsense from Shield. There is only one thing to address and everyone knows what it is, and that is to get promotion this season.

For what it is worth, i think promotion to the Championship will see huge changes at the Lane. I think there will be a huge surge in interest in United with a lot of supporters coming back and a lot of new ones coming on board. I think there will be a lot of investment forthcoming either from the Saudi, or the Saudi selling his stake on and new Chinese investors coming on board. The key to the whole lot is just getting promotion.

For what it is worth, i think McCabe has got some chinese money lined up, There is huge interest in English football in the far east, and McCabe is in a lot better place than many to attract the right investment.

Is it just guess work regarding the Chinese investment or is there some in the know stuff brownie.

Surely fitting the kop with radiators to keep us warm is a higher priority
Penguins don't have radiators.. they snuggle up to keep warm...

So that stranger who you've sat next to for years with the food in the beard, wonky teeth n beer farts... get cuddling..... just make sure you ask her name first

I dont think your too far off the mark there mi owd. The commercial interest is there, it just needs a gentle nudge with a modicum of success and the blue touch paper will be lit...over to you United the interest is well and truly there both in the stands and in the future boardroom. That i do know.
