Imagine what we could've been looking at for DCL if he made a half decent contribution for us between August and January..... Oh well.

This is the obvious point to make. We got less than a million up front. Young English talent comes at a massive premium these days, with the buying club (particularly if in PL) taking on the risk. Maybe Wilder had to do the deal at that price, to have anything like a realistic budget?

Or maybe DCL is no where near as good as the lad from Charlton

Maybe. Although he's already in their first team squad and doing well for the national team. Both of those parties seem impressed. Wingers also tend to be cheaper than strikers. Everton also took on the risk as they would with Lookman.

You're not suggesting he could have displaced Runaround Done are you ? Established strikers Clarke & Lavery can't manage that and DCL had the legs of Bambi on ice !

Can't understand why anyone would be surprised by this. DCL, hardly touched a ball at first team level for SUFC, unproven goalscorer, and as has been commented on, we're talking potential, not the finished product. On the other hand, Lookman, a division higher than the Blades, scores a few at an early age, thus the substantially higher fee. That should put this to bed, unless this goes round and around like a merry-go-round.

Lookman is barely better than DCL. Nevermind 10 times better. It's what happens with us, no matter how much potential a player has, waft £1m anywhere near a sheffielder and they'll snap your hands off. It's the same reason the city lags behind others of similar size in the U.K. Happy with second best

How many times have you seen Lookman play live ?

No, you're thinking of Matt Done again....

Yes. I'm still mad with rage about the sales of Slew, Lee Morris and Jacob Mellis to name but three...

Imagine we'd played him, his performances continued to match all his others, and we were sat mid table?

Phew.

Tufty has been "hands on" with all the transfers. No player has been sold over his head. Adams, in particular, he couldn't wait to offload. I know that doesn't suit the party line but there it is.

It's wings and roundabouts

You can argue we undersold Walker and Maguire.

But equally we sold at the top of their value for the likes of Slew, Morris who fell of a cliff after leaving. And will never command anything like the same money again

To me the better comparison would be Che - He's done much more goal wise than Lookman and scored again Pl sides. We should have been getting £5m plus for him imo.

FWIW - havn't seem much of DCL but nothing I have suggested he was a PL player in the making. That said he's managed to get into evertons and England u20's side so may be having his break out season

If he was a £5million player he would have gone to the Premier League

He wasn't and isn't. I repeat yet again: Tufty wanted rid. He would not have been in our first XI had he stayed. He hasn't a single football brain cell.

As for playing for "England" u20s being any sort of quality mark...meet Louis Reed and countless other boy wonders. Dear oh dear...

Is this the same Lookman that fell over every time one of our players went near him. Whingeing little shite.

Was just about to post similar. Based on what I saw at the Valley he wouldn't get a starting role in our current team, so £10m seems utterly ridiculous.

This may of course be a speculative figure.

It may be a £10m deal.....if he scores 50 goals for England,! but £500k now....£1m after 10 starts etc etc! But I agree that based on one game I have seen, anything more than a few hundred grand is barmy.

Whatever happens, I'm happy with the way Wilder is doing his job. He wanted Che out then fair enough if that is what was needed to build the squad he has. I would certainly rather have Fleck than Che.
As for DCL....it may turn out a cheap deal for the club, but equally in the long run might be a good deal. One sub appearance for Everton means nowt....just look at Jose Baxter!
