More Blades fans than home fans for an away game

It looks like this will be the case for the Bury game on Monday. We obviously had way more fans than Darlington for the infamous promotion celebration game in 1982. But have there been other away games when this has happened?

Yep, Bury, 2012, three sides of the ground were Blades (Bury obviously not stupid, realised they could sell a load of tickets and make some money), we won 3-0. No any sign of any trouble from what I could see, we all left the ground together.

I think we were in the majority at Rochdale in 2012.

I am sure we were in the majority at Wimbledon in 2003. We were about 1000 of a 1300 crowd.

We may also have been in the majority at Wimbledon on the last day of 1991-2 though I suspect that can't be checked.

It will have happened a lot in 1981-2. As well as Darlington, We will have been the majority at Crewe and Halifax.

Hows about the Palace away game a few years back, last of the season when we took something like 8k in that stand down the side.

My group, and many more blades, were in the Holmesdale end, behind the goal with the home fans so certainly more blades in attendance than the publicised number. The home fans were very welcoming, not at all unhappy to have their end half taken by blades, although the sheer number of Sheffield accents may have put them off saying anything!

MK Dons away this year could be a record breaker - I seem to remember them giving someone as many tickets as they wanted, didn't Coventry or some other club take nearly 10k this or (end of) last year? Considering MK Dons is our last away game, promotion will hopefully either be in the bag or almost in the bag by then so it could be a party

I know 1,300 was around the recorded attendance figure for that game but there is no chance there were ever actually that many there that day. Best example of an inflated attendance ever.

Rotherham (at Don Valley), in whatever the cup was called back then. Think we were given around 3,500-4k and sold out. Overall gate was less than 7k if I remember right.

No mate - it was def when we lost to MK. They may have done it v Brentford as well but I remember walking out of MK and hearing it.

And a hell of a lot of games in Division Three the 1979-80 season when we first went down to that level.

Football was in such a depressed state back then that just taking two or three thousand fans away from home and you could quite easily outnumber the home fans

I remember a 4-3 win at Mansfield sending us to the top of Division Three and 8000 Blades were there to see it........Absolute bedlam and I ended up spending the night in Mansfield nick.

A wendy mate told me they were unbelievably bad at Brentford that day, but they were on that crazy run of wins where everything was falling for them.

I'll never forget that Beattie chance which would have changed the outcome of the season. He hit it true and low, but straight at the keeper's foot. It was the latter day equivalent to Danny Webber's miss.

I would say even more than 10,000

Leicester's previous home game the week before had an attendance of just over 10,000 and that was against Oldham Athletic who themselves were pushing for a play off place and apparently brought 2000 with them

The bars in Leicester were full of United fans buying the final ticket stubs off the Leicester fans season tickets for ridiculous money

No it was 79/80 when we won 2-1,Butlin & Bourne scored. We lost 2-1 the season after,led at half time through Trusson. It was Conroy who punched the ball on Moore's head !!!
