I didn't need to. I was there. He was a poor, poor footballer. Crude, slow, unskilled.
I was there too, I remember being very pleased he scored but that could not gloss over the fact he was no Brian Deane.

Wonder if he still wears that bandage on his wrist?
Bergen Blade ought to look into this.

I seem to remember one of the goals was "helped" by a handball (might be wrong, what with maturity and the bottle of Macallen)
His second was scored with his shoulder, rather than his head:
actually Flo scored 10 in 33 prem games in his only season it
which makes him the last blade to have achieved double figures in the prem

And Eddie Colquhoun liked a fag, (to smoke),
I saw Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias at the Top Rank.
Their support band was The Police.
I'd rather watch Alberto again than Sting & Co. (Or Led Zepp)
Saw them a couple of times, once in Sheffield , and once at the Roundhouse in London, brilliant live act, I think they were from Manchester ?
No he didn't. He got 9. Deano is the only one to get double figures in one PL season for us.
got 10 according to site I looked at
1993-94 Sheffield United Premier League 33 10
1994-95 First Division 32 6
1995-96 19 4

Is there any record of how many times he controlled a football as opposed to crudely helping it on? Probably lower than his crap goals ratio. As I've said before, once DD lost Deane he abandoned any refinement of his "style" and reverted to what he was comfortable with at Wimbledon - alehouse football at its crudest.
You Hoofers now try to rewrite history yet again by converting Jostein Flo into something better than the dreadful footballer he was.
Jostien Flo was a footballing revolutionary, as he was first exponent of what was known of the Flo Pass, where the left back picks up the ball and sends a long ball up the field to the right wing where Flo headed it on in to the mixer. Might not have been one for the purists who would have denounced it hoofball, as but it was very effective for Norway, and something that we should have done more with Flo, and it would have been great to watch.

football being better in the late sixties early seventies is a myth
the better bit was we were in the top flight
the football was as bland as it is now , most of the time
yes Currie lit up the odd game, but to say we played sexy football is a gross distortion of the facts
there were just as many dour games even then
the good bit was just being there, playing with man utd and liverpool
remembering our relegation in 68 our last few home games were bloody abysmal

An interesting interpretation of "great to watch" mate. Personally I'd sooner get a tin of gloss, open the lid and stare at it constantly looking for changes in consistency.
Also, as I've said for years, there is a world of difference between a "long ball" punted in the general direction of two lighthouses ambling near the opposition penalty area and a "long pass" played by Currie or Hoddle to a team-mate's feet or into his unbroken stride. The former is pub football; the latter a sheer delight. The time has come for Hoofers to stop disingenuously eliding the two. They are chalk and cheese.

very similar records
but Bassett had to battle against much wealthier opponents , Harris got a much easier ride as all teams werent far off being on a par in transfer and wages
Bassett was up against teams paying 5 to 8 times as much as we were
Of course we never ever aimed for Bill Dearden's head, did we?
werent great to watch every gameYes, you've said...to the point of tedium. Harris' teams played football and were great to watch most of the time. DD was a Hoofer and so are you. That's it.

What a bizarre thread. I think we are all agreed that Pinchy lives in some sort of utopia (dystopia?) in his own head that only ever existed in Barcelona under Guardiola for about 6 months out of pure luck with the personnel & age profile at his disposal, and was certainly not routinely played in the 60s & 70s Blades teams of my memory, who were quite happy to go long when it suited. If we don't agree with him, apparently we "love hoof". Currie was the king of the long ball when it was needed.
Good teams do what they need to do to win, as we are doing at the moment.
