A progress report on The Chedler...

The Coventry game has shown to me that we really don't need to worry about what people think of us. People will tell us we are horrible no matter what we do.

Ched is a free man. Get him back.

If fans of other teams have a problem with that, it's their problem.
I like being disliked ,bollocks to em.
We also have to cover the bases if Billy gets injured ,so if its not Ched it must be someone else ,Clarke isn't it for me.

Taking out all the stuff about what he did/the baggage; we need to make football decisions.

Evans has scored a few goals this year and looked decent versus us but I think we need to be looking at other options that have the chance too improve. Not sure Evans will get any better now and I still think the break will mean he will never quite get to the standard of that 'one' season. People also tend to forget most of his career he was very average including 2 seaons at SUFC - he effectively had one good season in his career. He has had a lot of injuries this year. Maybe if we could just take over his contract to the end of the season (on the same alleged 2k wages he is currently) then maybe and see if he can give us another option but....

I peronally would try and go for the lad Taylor at Bristol Rovers or Bogle at Grimsby if we could. The latter looks a big lad with pace who would cause teams problems and is different to what we already have.

Let's be fair, legal or illegal, what Evans did makes him a bit of a scumbag. I'd rather not have a person capable of such unsavoury things playing for my club.

As a few others have said too, we are basing our memories of Evans as a player on his final season, ignorIng the previous sub-par seasons he had. I do think it would be easier to look at someone like Bogle or Charlie's Wyke: Younger players that wouldn't create any media attention or fan unrest and also have the potential to improve.

I think both Taylor and Bogle would be good signings, but the difference is the fee. We'd have to shell out a fair amount for either of them.

Evans on the other hand would be phenomenally good value.

Exactly. We're not talking about a 'heroes return', fanfares, Red Arrows flypast etc. He would be used as essential attacking back-up in case Billy gets injured or suspended or that we realise that Clarke just doesn't 'work' at United.

Which reminds me Trev, have you posted Leon's Christmas card yet? ;)

Er, no. Not criticising Leon but 6 starts, 7 on as sub. and one goal would suggest that he's a weak link. Yes, Done's record doesn't look much better but - as we saw against Swindon - he supplies benefits to the team that mere stats. don't convey. Clarke, on the other hand, looks Higdonesque.

Happy Christmas Phil & Liz!

Happy Christmas to you as well pal, we are all getting together for a drink soon, the old pub crew, will keep you informed.

Cheers

Was he really 'literally' running his bollocks off?

At least he already has a son.

Someone said to me last week "He literally kicked shit out of me..." An interesting proposition I thought, but restrained myself given where we were.

For purely footballing reasons, this would be a no brainer for me.

A better partner for Sharp is a priority for me. If we are to get over the line, we will need plenty of goals.

I have confidence that an Evans / Sharp partnership would deliver.

As for any "shitstorm" should Ched resign for us, newsflash peeps. Ched was Innocent.

Repeat Innocent. Get over yourselves !

One main worry is I have a feeling someone like Scunny or Bradford could sign him

CW will have his targets already, we all know that, I am assuming that players from teams around us will be a non starter, too expensive (Paddy Madden for example), and that people on long contracts will also be too expensive (to pay off), so Marcus Maddison for example.

James Vaughn would still be a target for me, up front.

I can see Billy getting the 'Tittylip' on if we get Ched back. Billy likes being number 1, the attention Ched would get from the crowd alone wouldn't go down too well.

I think Billy Sharp just wants to captain Sheffield United in a promotion winning season. The reason we are where we are is mainly due to the goals of Billy Sharp, so far this season, he has done the hard work and laid the foundations, so no matter who comes in, I don't see Billy getting upset.

Question. Aren't we one of the highest scorers in the league?

What the fuck do we once more want to hark back to the past. Did we learn nothing from Beattie.

Thread created with sole intention of trouble causing. Again.

Yes, Ched cheated on his girlfriend and that's obviously poor behaviour, but don't you have mates who have done the same? I have and I ain't going to stop being mates with them, it's up to them and their conscience.

If we only sign players of the highest moral standing, we'll be looking at a very small pool of players.

If CW wants Ched, then I want him to come to us
If CW doesnt want Ched, then I dont want him to come to us

All agree?

This^^^^^ 100%!

If Wilder thinks we should sign Ched then get it done!

For those saying Ched could upset the apple cart, well isn't that the case with any signing? Surely now is the time to add to the squad rather that sitting back thinking promotion is in the bag?

My thoughts exactly silent, if Wilder brings him in I will be excited by the prospect if he says no, he's not for us I will think good enough if Wilder says this then I will think he ain't good enough. As far as the question regarding, hes the past lets move on, this always makes me laugh, I bet if we heard jags is coming back in January everybody would be creaming themselves, and rightly so. But shouldn't we be moving on? Jags is the past isnt he?

He will not cost a couple of million. Chesterfield will take the first bid that comes in January. They are in dire straits. It would be a nominal fee from any club that would land him I feel. Might be less than £100,000.

Don't judge everyone by our standards!

If we don't sign him, somebody else will. Could quite clearly see that he's still got a bit when we played Chesterfield. Don't understand how it would cause uproar, "Sheffield United scum club for signing an innocent man, damn them and their fans".

Do you really think the media give a fuck about a jury verdict?

It'd be the filthiest, most sordid fairytale ending in history and the news would be all over it.

Why risk bringing that kind of heat upon ourselves when we don't need to? The focus should be entirely on the football we're playing. Ched returning would distract from that.

If we were crying out for goals I'd be more up for it, but we're knocking 3 or 4 past teams.

I actually don't. I don't want mates who I can't trust, and I can't trust people that would cheat.

I think Sharp knows that he would get more space playing alongside Evans. I did hear a rumour that they didn't get on, however I am not sure where their paths crossed?I also think it would be a conversation Wilder and Sharp have had already, and like Silent Blade said, if Wilder wants him...

If Wilder wants him here then I'm sure the overwhelming majority would have no problem accepting it. How could anyone question him at this point?

If we're talking about 'upsetting the apple cart', then look at Nile Ranger. He's genuine scum, he's had (rightful) convictions and will have more, yet he's not doing Southend any harm as they charge up the table having gone 10 unbeaten. And he's not even as good as Ched so being a scumbag should be even harder for them to tolerate!

Still waiting to hear a specific scenario where Ched's presence could negatively impact our results.....

Well the media and certain high profile individuals certainly had a field day when he was originally wrongly convicted didn't

I think the shitstorm so widely predicted is overstated.

Albeit it was Chesterfield, Ched was playing and scoring BEFORE the conviction was overturned. It's yesterday's news, tomorrow's chip paper.

Other than Samuels, who won't be able to help himself having a dig, no one will give a shit after a few days.

Any media outlets that might kick up a storm will be quickly reminded Ched Was and Is an innocent man.

UTB

Him being at little Chezzy is fine. Low key club for someone who probably wants a low key return to professional life.

If he signs for us, there'll be another shitstorm. Simply because it's us. Fans won't want that, club won't want that, Ched won't want that.

Best if we all move on in my opinion.
Shitstorm from whom?
Seems those who were most strident about Evans coming back while he was still classed as a rapist tend to be most strident about him coming back now.

(i.e. those who couldn't give a shit about any negative consequences back then still seem to blank out any potential negative consequences about signing him now. Such negatives don't matter to them.)

Personally, I just hope the powers that be are intent on moving on from the past & not keeping us stuck in it.

Promotion isn't in any way dependent on us signing Evans. We're more than capable of doing it without him - we're a unified club now. Wanting "stars" to "fix" things is exactly where we went wrong over recent seasons.
I can see the headlines now "Sheffield United sign innocent man." Should make the front pages!!!

Well that's up to you, I've got very good mates who have cheated and I have no issues trusting them.

End of the day, this is supporting a football club, you don't need to be a saint to play for or support the club.
