..according to Karl Robinson!

“The remit of this football club is that we’re the biggest club in this league. Okay, that will upset Bolton, Sheffield United and someone else. When the fixtures came out I was looking when I was going to The Valley – you look when you are playing the big boys. We’re the ones to be shot down.”

Strange one that, you have to wonder how he could come to that conclusion.

I know this thread won't interest many so if so, just ignore it. But I find this subject interesting so here we go.

I was reading a thread on the Bolton forum the othe other day where they said the reason we disliked them so much was because "we've took their mantle as league one's biggest club" followed by comments that although we (United) get far bigger crowds they are the bigger club. No justification or reasoning, they just are.

We all know it means nowt at the end of the day but how anybody could argue against United being this divisions biggest club is beyond me. ..and I find the comments of Karl Robinson bizarre.

Here's to next season anyway, when hopefully we'll be back amongst clubs of a similar size!

Heaven forbid that their new manager talks up the importance of the club to his players, even if it has some minor exaggeration. You reckon if Fleetwood sacked Rosler the new guy would say "well, we're just happy to be here lads, don't worry, it'll all be over soon and we'll be back playing Spennymoor and Bradford Park Avenue and other clubs of a similar stature soon"?

Cos Karl Robinson is a poor manager who has played the charming young man learning his trade for quite a while now (whilst being very well backed both financially and with time to learn from his mistakes). Eventually even the dons chairman sussed him out as someone who flatters to deceive. No surprise he got the chop cos he had delivered bugger all really...yes he took them up...but then failed and brought them back down with a team seriously underachieving and huge wage bill.

He is about to get found out again, and is talking the talk. Charlton have never been on the same planet as Utd in terms of club size though the valley used to be a bloody big stadium in years gone by. Hes buttering their breadcakes thats all. If he was Utd manager he would be telling us all about how we are the biggest by a country mile. Thankfully hes not our manager as hes just a bullshit merchant.

As for Bolton...yes they have been a big club in the past...but again they arent even close to being in Utds league. Next season if they play their cards right then they might just continue to be in our league literally speaking if they can hang on to 2nd place after the biggest and best club in the division romps off with the title.

Could charlton or Bolton get nearly 20k average attendance in the old division 3 after 6 years of being in it and over a decade of disappointment ? Give over they both struggle to get 15k on a good day. Different gravy SUFC to them.

Everyone knows who the biggest (and this season who the best is). Let others delude themselves if they want.

How exactly do you define who the biggest is? Hard to argue that the man uniteds of this world are top and the fleetwoods are around the bottom and the rest are somewhere in between! Sorted.

Can I just say I was one of the first people on this board to point out this blokes twatishness three years ago when many on here wanted him to be our manager.

You can indeed. Well done.

Both Bradford and Coventry are bigger clubs imo than Bolton and Charlton so no idea why their fans / manager chirp on about being the biggest club in the division, just makes them look a bit silly.

In fairness to Robinson he's just saying what the fans want to hear and I don't blame him. Complimenting the club is a good way to get the fans on your side early on.

Any person with half a brain cell realises United are quite easily the biggest club in league one. In fairness to Charlton they are a big club though but the Bolton fans really make me laugh, a tiny little Lancashire club with a plastic ground in the middle of nowhere.

Charlton, Coventry and Bolton have done better than us in the past 30 or so years but that doesn't make them bigger.

You're more than likely right in that he's saying what they want to hear but surely common sense has to come into play?

Do Charlton fans even remotely think they're this divisions biggest club? For him to say that makes you think that some must or else he just looks a total idiot.

It's a bit like United getting promoted to the Prem and Wilder claiming to be its biggest, or one of the biggest. You'd expect that from the deluded nutjobs across the city but in the real world you know it's just deluded nonsense.

I've never thought of Charlton as a big club, not even in this division. Apart from us I'd put at least two or three others before them.

Regarding Bolton, medium sized club in the Championship, slightly bigger than that in league one.

Don't get this animosity towards Robinson. More than a few of the contributors to this forum would have gladly given him a blow job had he joined us post Wilson & Clough.

Charlton have a fractured fanbase and there's a general bad vibe around the club.

So any good manager will try to get the fans on side.

So a few sounds bites like
"This club is massive", "The fans always made this an intimidating place",
"This is such a great club and should be playing on a much bigger stage"
"The ground, training ground, history are all fantastic and I feel honoured to be here"
Etc etc

Warnock used to do it all the time praising the fans and the club.
He said Crystal Palace were the best fans he'd ever had and more recently he was saying how
Cardiff is such a huge club with the most passionate fans in the land etc.

I think Robinson is a decent manager.
The problem is that he has a touch of the Adkins about him, smooth operator, interviews well, says all the right things, always postive, off the pitch he's impressive but it doesn't seem to translate to on the pitch.

Anyone who believes a word that smarmy fuckwit says is as daft as the man himself.

Clown....about to be found out and one sack from leaving the game.

Remind us who still get the biggest gates and take 6200 away from home after suffering another god awful season. We're the biggest club in the division by a long shot. Nobody comes close. Bradford also have good support but theirs is helped by cheap season tickets the last I knew. Karl Robinson is a clown.

I very much doubt CW would call us the biggest club in this division.

I Would expect him to try and prove it - just like he is now, by getting on with the job in hand.

Shows the difference in class between Wilder and Robinson.

Robinson was very complimentary last time he brought MK Plastics to BDTBL - slightly touting for a job here from memory, which tells me volumes about his person.

We got away with one when for whatever reason, we didn't get him - didn't he also play us off against MK Dons at the end of a season to get more money out of MK?

Think to be honest some one should put Robinson in the twats thread.
