Any fellow blade got them from last night?

Had a look last night around the 30 mins mark and said we had 67% of the play.

More like 80%.

BBC website shows

United
65% possession
21 shots
8 shots on target
10 corners

Bury
35% possession
1 shot
0 shots on target
2 corners

The possession % can't be right. Can only assume that their time wasting was counted as them being in possession. Remember in the 2nd half it must have took them 5 minutes to take a single throw in.

The ONLY stat that matters is the one showing you've scored more goals than the opposition.
We've had about 99% possession 20 shots and played 9 men for 90 mins of the last 180 and just squeezed past 2 relegation candidates.

I remember us losing 2-0 at home to Spam having had well over 20 corners and running the game. Means sweet fuck all.
If we only touched the ball 5 times and won 5-0 every week I'd be over the moon.

SBT,

For one-off matches results are the be all and end all. We WON, doesn't really matter if it's 1-0 or 5-0. It's still 3 points.

However performances/ stats can be important as they are an indicator of future results. If a team keeps creating 20 chances every match then they have more chance of having a good season compared to a team that creates 4 chances every match.

Put it this way. If every team approaches the game like Bury and Shrewsbury then even without Duffy we'll win 4 out of 5.

I'm sure Wilder and Knill will have learnt loads from Shrewsbury and Bury games. Against a packed defense if we fail to score an early goal then we need Chapman/ Lavery type players to run at their defence.

Leicester seldom if ever hit even 50% possession last season,or amassed many shots.
Remind me how they got on.

If you are interested in football stats I can thoroughly recommend 'The Numbers Game' by Chris Anderson and David Sally.

A great book analysing a wide variety of stats (possession, number of passes, pass completion%, etc, etc) and what actually makes a difference and what doesn't.

Fair point, there are always exceptions though.

I've noticed that based on stats MK Dons should be up near the top.
They nearly always dominate possession and seem to outshoot the opposition.
They have very impressive stats but keep losing.

The other week Karl Robinson was interviewed after his sacking and he was still convinced MKD would still finish in the top 6. Said they've dominated most matches and once they click will go on a good run.

There was something that didn't add up about the Shrewsbury game as well. At half time, the BBC was showing 69/31 in our favour, which still looked a bit understated, they never had the ball. By the end, the totals were 61/39. I reckon that sort of swing must mean that the second half stats were about 53/47, which is ludicrous, they were only in our half twice and it isn't as though they were playing keep ball.

We had exactly the same discussion about time wasting, 60 seconds on a goal kick amounts over 1% of the game time.......

I think "after his sacking " is the salient point there. Not the ramblings of a failed manager.
