L1 top scorer stuff aside. And putting the side ahead of personal goals / targets.

It's time to come off pens fella.

We have better dead ball specialists who should be on pens.

Hit and hope just isn't good enough I'm afraid.

Not a criticism. Probably Tuftys first name on team sheet and rightly so.

He shouldn't have put that one down the middle yesterday, because he did the same with the last one he took at Scunthorpe.

Think there was/is a thread knocking about on 'best Penalty takers'..wonder where Billy would figure?

I'm guessing no one had a 100% record for the club?

Good penalty takers tend to calmly pass it into the net.
Remember Blackman? He'd wait for the goalie to dive and slot it gently into the opposite corner.

Billy always tends to go for power with many down the middle.
Although I did watch Match of the Day yesterday and most of the penalties scored in the PL were exactly the same as Billly penalty, blasted down the middle into the roof of the net.

The only way a goalie can save them is if they refuse to dive and just stand static, which very few goalies have the bottle to do. Billy did get height on his penalty and 9 times out of 10 that's a great penalty.

For me that was the turning point yesterday,if Billy puts the pen away we run away with the game quite easy,I'm not slagging Billy because I've had him to be top scorer in the league,so come on sharpy lad, let's just put a bit of thought into it next time on penalty duty.

The point I am making, is that his technique on pens, for a proven goal scorer, is surprisingly poor. IMHO.

And that I believe our dead ball specialists (Coutts Fleck Duffy et al) might be worth a try.

Billy appears to be on pens for not entirely the right reasons as I see it. Primarily to give him a better chance of being L1 top scorer. Not exactly he bigger picture.

Miss didn't prove expensive yesterday, but it might do next time.

Always puzzles me why footballers don't go for the top corner with pens everytime, no matter who the goal keeper is or if he guesses the right way they aren't saving them if they are in the top corner.

Tony Kenworthy used to go for bottom corner. He didn't miss many.

Turning point ? We scored two minutes later !

Going down the middle is a 'no risk' option.

You've got to work that option by putting at least your previous one penalty to either side - the keepers will all do their homework, especially with an established penalty taker.

Not only had Billy gone down the middle with his last penalty, but at 1-0 up at home against 10 men it wasn't a crucial moment and he could afford to take more of a risk and give himself the safe option of going down the middle next time, when it might be far more important.

Now he won't dare go down the middle next time, it could be a more important moment and I'd give him a good chance of missing.

Probably frightened of doing a Simmo.

Yep. I so wish we had someone else to take those late pressure penalties at Gillingham and Scunthorpe

not sure why fleck isn't taking them. smash the ball or place it, i know the lad can do both

Goal scorers don't always make the best penalty takers (not that I'm saying Billy should relinquish the duty). Kenworthy, Eddy to name two of our better takers and further a field, Phil Neil were all good at the job but total cack if they had a chance in front of goal. It's as much about temperament as technique.
