A win, and its three points and statistically (unless Bolton go on a goal spree) it makes us more or less in the top two for Christmas (the first time we have been here for what ... four years?)

I know people have said 'we have to lose some day'. True. But never before has consistency been so much of a big issue. Wilder has done a great job, and the players are giants refreshed.

Please ... please ... keep the momentum up, United. Next three games ... three teams who are as good as struggling. I just hope its at least seven of nine and Bradford and Bolton fuck up.

At the moment, Scunthorpe must be treasuring our indifferent start to the season and the six points it now affords them. Seem to recall we were similarly looking down at the pigs once upon a night out in Rhyl. How that changed within a few weeks.

We need a suspension/injury to Morris. Stop him scoring and that six-point, ten-goal advantage evaporates. He needs a pending court case.

No, I agree. But momentum being momentum, the team look pretty potent now and the next three games are against teams we could profit seven from nine points from. That would put us a lot further from the two behind (and a four point gap going into the new year would be priceless) and one win behind Scunthorpe would contribute to them bottling it. The pressure is all on them then.

If Scunthorpe keep winning, that's fine, not great, but as long as we keep getting the results, the teams that Scunthorpe could well be beating leading up to Christmas, would leave a healthy gap between top2 and the next 4.

Of our remaining league games this year the highest placed opponent is Northampton in twelfth. No easy games and other cliches aside that's as good as a run of fixtures as we could ask for. I keep saying it but teams that go up win the majority of those matches. We'll no doubt have another Fleetwood somewhere soon where we think of it a two points dropped, could get an unlucky loss, but we've just won five on the bounce and all we can do is keep our standards up. We're playing promotion quality football. Just keep going.

Scunny are nothing if not consistent and appear always to get a result. However I don't think 6 points is quite the massive gulf that some seem to think in mid November. Win our game in hand and its down to 3 points AND they have to come to our place. Bolton dipped last week and Bratfud got a spanking yesterday.
There are other clubs as well e.g. Wimbledon who seem bang on form.

I still think, as does the rest of the football world, that we are quids in this season. Problem is we know our history

It's worth noting Scunny play Bolton and Bradford at the end of December. Would much rather see Scunthorpe win against them two, or draw, than the other way around. We have plenty of time to try and catch them and at the moment, it'd be more to our advantage to consolidate our position as best we can (assuming we carry one winning).

Of course Scunny are a problem. While they remain clear at the top, us and the rest are playing for the one remaining auto spot. Hoping Morris will be sold means it's out of our hands.

At the moment, Scunny are 6 points clear but their superior g.d. (+22 compared to our +12) makes that effectively seven points clear. We had an ideal chance to eat into that yesterday, but failed to as we were dire and unprofessional in the second half.
