I haven't heard anything but praise for Coutts in the last two or three months

I think we show plenty of appreciation by paying their wages.

Enjoying your football must play a part in the decision (although I'm not naive enough to think that money isn't a huge factor.) must help to know they are getting support from the fans too!

If we are in and around the top 2 in jan hopefully that means they both sign up. Freeman too! They both seem to be enjoying their football and the team spirit here.

For the first time since he signed coutts is getting a consistent run in the side. And eel is one of the first names on the team sheet here, must be better than being back up elsewhere?

If it's an issue about playing on the championship we Could offer coutts a contact with a clause in that if we don't go up we have to listen to offers from the championship if he is so desperate to play there.

There was a quote in the rag the other day with EEL stating he loves it here. That's part of the battle. Wolves, EEL's agent and money are the other intrinsic parts that will determine our fate

View attachment 20683 These lads all wore their hearts on their sleeves. Proper togetherness then and still is now after all these years. It was never about money but pride playing for the Blades and friendships. It's always nice hearing their stories of what they used to get up to. Blades for life
Blimey, some of those have worn better than others! Paul Beesley hasn't changed much, but the others!!

I have a solution that may seem radical to some.

But it's very simple.....we offer them a deal that they feel they are worth.
If we can't match it, then we move on. There aren't many players who are fans of the team and will therefore perhaps make some concessions, and the truth is those players are better than your average league one salary.

So what do we think they are worth? £7k a week (double the average)....£10k a week...or top end championship?

What are the pigs paying their midfield for instance?

So, we've got L-R
Two Carl Bradshaw's, ???, Dane Whitehouse, ??? picking the scabs off the back of Dane's head, Glynn Hodges, Frenchy, Rob Scott, John Gannon, Paul Beesley

Presume Brian Gayle was taking the picture, aided and abetted by Mitch Ward?
Simon Tracey was in the casino
I didn't see Brian Gayle with them Sunday but he was out at the mk plastics game

Surely Mitch Ward on the left? John Gannon's face hasn't changed, but his hair has :)

Maybe cynicism guides my opinion, or possibly I have a grip on reality, but the days of supporter adulation being the thing that tips a player towards remaining at a club are long gone (assuming this scenario ever existed to begin with). Every player thumps his chest, they pull at the badge as if they have a lifelong affiliation with whatever club they happen to be at, they do the usual round of meeting supporters, even attending hospitals to spend time with young kids (which I applaud). But I'm in no way, shape, or form drawn into this idea that players are swayed by supporter affection if a few additional grand is on the table. If another club wants to sign one of our players, and chooses to offer £3,5, or 8 thousand more than the Blades are offering, then you don't need to be an expert in financial management to know which direction your future lies. The only course of action for United is to be active (none of this pro-active nonsense) and secure the player on terms that reflect their view of what he's worth to them, both now and over the next 2 or 3 seasons.

Of course, in Coutts case, he may appreciate what Wilder has done for his career, thus it might help discussions and enable an agreement to happen sooner rather than later. And before anyone pokes their beak in, the previous 2 seasons, where Coutts wasn't the player is today, won't count for a great deal. We're talking about what he brings to the team today, and by securing his services now how it will save us looking elsewhere and paying more than we could have avoided. A big assumption at the moment, but if we do secure promotion this season, knowing we have a player of Coutts' quality will go a long way in enabling us to establish ourselves in the Championship.
Don't get me going on supporter adulation IIYB.

I still get tongue tied on the odd occasion that I meet TC, and I once found myself peeing next to Joe Shaw in the Gents in Bailies Nightclub years after he retired, and I totally dried up! :) ;)

Coutts contract expires this summer I think. The EEL could be recalled in January unless we can sign him permanently. Whilst at the end of the day money talks surely if a player is enjoying playing, is in a successful team and is a fans favourite then this must influence whether he signs for us or not. Personally I would love to see both these players sign for us - in Coutts case extending his contract. He in particular got so much stick on here last season and even now has his detractors. I wonder if players ever read this? Anyway I think we need to start a campaign to make them appreciate how much we the fans (or most of us) love them so hopefully this will work in our favour. What can we do. New chants for them? A Cooooouuuuts (a la Scoouugs) for Coutts?

Coutts has done well so far this season - but its the first season out of what, three which he has done anything? So, I'd be holding fire on offering him an new contract for now.

Agree about EEL - but he is bound to be impressing other clubs up the divisions.

Basham's out of contract too you know...

Anyone else fancy chipping in for a massive flag with his face on?

To the tune of glad all over...

We've got our Billy,he scores all of the time,
Wilder and Knilly, they love a bottle of wine
and we love..Ebanks landell

And John Fle-eck,he never loses the ball,
Stephan scougall,he's only 3ft tall

for a small fee I may allow coutts to be slotted into the John fleck lyric,or may be tempted to write a 3rd verse:eek:

Well im certainly past the part of footballer adulation in my life and tbh i would rather piss on their shoes if i saw most ex footballers stood next to me at a urinal in an alehouse, but that little motley crew are different. Whilst im not the star struck young buck i may once have been, i have t say that id be happy to get my hand in my wallet and buy any of those fellas a beer or five. They gave me lots of good memories and deserve to be held in high esteem and with fondness. Thing is they played for a special club and with hindsight you can still tell they damned well know it and have become blades themselves. I.was reading an interview Tracey gave to the local rag when he joined up with Keith Curles Carlisle and you could still feel the love he has for Utd in it. The other clubs he had worked for were a passing reference only. Different breed those blades lad. Its what ive always told my young uns, and they know it.

Course it's Dougie - I knew I recalled the face but as usual, my total recall relies on the Silent one.

Is that really Mr Tracey?
It very probably is. Mind you, it's got to be 12 or more years since I last saw him on the pitch.

Now keeper coach at Carlisle I see

You should have seen the state of Len Badger today in town. Looked like a down and out.
