Long's a bit unlucky there with the deflection. Funny how it's so similar to what happened there in pre season though. Same end, similar shooting position, ball swerves, ends up in the net.

Good from Clarke. Good hit from Slater. Looks like O'Connell knobbed it into the net.

Having looked at it twice I'm not sure it's a deflection or just some bend on the shot. Either way I think it's another goalkeeping mistake unfortunately. It gives me no pleasure to say it but Long is not good enough.
 
Its not deflected, he's got his positioning wrong by assuming that the ball is going to his left, when in fact it goes to his right and therefore he's wrong footed and makes a total mess of it. He actually leaves a huge gap to his right too because of his positioning. Sadly Long isn't good enough, and should be released, in my view for his sake as well, so he can find another club by January.
 
Actually it might have been deflected! watched it back a few times and I'l give him the benefit of the doubt there. The ball does seem to change slightly after our last defender!
 
George Long is well and truly third choice now, and only has himself to blame. He started the season as undisputed first choice and has fucked up monumentally. Time for a change of scenery. He's regressed a huge amount.

Great ball down the line from whoever it was to Clarke for the second goal, and Slater's finish was very nice.
 



So we are saying Long is not a bad goalkeeper just an unlucky one ? Well like Sharp did he should change his clubs to see if that changes his luck, you never know it did it for Billy...
 
Glad Clarke got on the score sheet, could be very important for us, if Billys not firing on all cylinders
 
Great goal from Clarke. Think he's a lot more mobile than people assume... including his teammates who early the season thought the best course of action was to lump it to his head.
 
Definitely a deflection. Don't really care. I did feel a bit for Long since he signed a new contract presumably expecting to play regular football only to get sidelined so quickly, but clearly he's not doing himself any favours behind the scenes to end up behind Ramsdale and he can hardly say he wasn't replaced on merit.

Long isn't a bad keeper and never has been. He's a young keeper who's confidence is absolutely shot to pieces after finding himself playing behind some of the worst defenders that this club has ever employed, during one of the worst periods this club has ever been through. Having said that, he's definitely made mistakes and could probably do with moving on for the sake of his own career.

Moore has been brilliant so far but if Long had conceded a couple of the goals that he has so far he would have been hammered for it (see further up this thread where someone suggests Grimsby's 2nd goal might've been a deflection but blames Long for it anyway o_O )

Well maybe this season and possibly unfairly. However he has had a great deal of good will cos he was one of our own and he has dropped clanger after clanger in sesons gone by. Admittedly he really gasnt been helped out by a dreadful Utd defence in past seasons and a more experienced pro who was also playing like dog shite. But to insinuate that GL hasnt had a great deal of support over his tenure in the team is just wrong. He has, it is just that fans patience isnt endless and seeing mistake after mistake made by various players will eventually piss anyone off. He was put in a shit situation and you could argue he was let down to a degree but he has not stepped up to the plate and he clearly isnt good enough. Good will from fans wont make a crap player into a good one. He was wished well by the fans but unfortunately couldnt deliver the goods.

How many excuses are you going to make for him,it will be the sea mist next. Hes shit get rid.
 
I do genuinely feel for George, he's a local lad that we were so keen to see do well, but at this moment, he is just isn't anywhere near good enough and I have no faith in him. What an absolutely stellar signing Moore has been, he's breathed confidence into the entire side. Maybe time for a change of scenery for George.
 
After their first goal it looks asif Basham is telling Long to open his gob
 
Looked to take a slight deflection for the 'Long goal'...hard to tell...Slater's and Clarke's were cracking goals.

Collins bullied him when he was here.
Moore isnt brilliant, decent shot saver and hes vocal but hes a flapper and hes got some capable central defenders in front of him
something Long never had
 



Even more frightening that we employed Adkins on a big fat wage and he hadnt worked out for himself after a season that George simply wasnt good enough. He was remember gunna off Long a better contract than the one he actually signed after CW came in and basically said 'its on reduced terms take it or leave it'.
