my 1st cup experiance losing 5 nil to arsenal super mac tearing us apart , was there the night we lost to alltricham how embarising was that .happy days beating coventry with holdsworths last min goal then ned kellys pen saves and the charlton game from a few years ago was pretty special

I don't know why, but the home game against Villa in about 2004 always sticks out in my mind. I recall Andy Liddell having a stormer that day.

In the queue for 5th round tickets vs Man United and somebody saying " this is a right old FAC up". Seemed hilarious at the time, having stood in the queue for 4 hours

Don't remember the year (mid 70s). As a young lad my very first away match on the supporters with my dad and uncle, versus Leicester. We got hammered 3-0, But my lasting memory was of TC smashing a free kick against one of the glass fronted boxes behind the goal, because someone was giving him less than complementary hand gestures.

At those games too! Supermac was awesome; think it was 4-0 at h/t.

Altricham was bloody freezing too.

The 3rd Round win at Villa Park was up there as one of my most special afternoons/evenings watched the Red n White Wizaaaaaaards.

Losing 4-1 at Villa park r4. We were in top flight, them in l2. Mid 70's. Woody scoring for us. They'd won league cup I think year before.
Going in neighbours Ford Capri and doing a ton was exciting for a young lad !!

I went to Altrincham with my dad when we lost 0-3,also the tie at Norwich 2-3,the Blackburn quarter final when Pembo banged in the penalty to win,0-5 at home to Arsenal and Supermac, these stick in my mind

1976. Keith Edwards' debut. Chris Garland hat trick

Tony Field scored for us, not Woodward. Yes Villa won the League Cup in that 1974-75 season beating Norwich in an all division 2 final (even the semi-finals didnt contain a division 1 club). Both Villa and Norwich got promotion too

I also was at all of those games, didn't Woodward miss a pen when we was 0:4 down to Arsenal?
Altringham at home, what a dour game that was, but in the League was one of my best seasons to be a Blade.
The Norwich game we had tickets in the home stand, when we scored there was also loads of other Blades in the same stand.
The Blackburn game was a 500 mile round trip for me, lived in North Devon at the time, then had a hard time getting tickets for the semi-final, but managed to get 4 in the end, that didnt go well
I remember 2:2 with Spurs at BDTBL, we was 0:2 down, maybe late 70s. Think they brought about 8,000, edit, just remembered that was the Division 2 game not a cup match (old age moment). Think was the same season we played Arsenal in the cup.

I was at that match, travelled on the inter-city football special packed with Blades. Bloody freezing stood in the snow on their open away end. Remember marvelling at their kop, was it the first kop end with a cantilever roof?
We were awful. All these years I thought we lost 4-0!

January 3rd 1970. I was more interested in playing Scaletrix (which was my xmas present) than being tempted to watch Blades v Everton so I stayed at home. Looking at the results on Grandstand I was pleased to learn we won 2-1. In the next day I saw highlights of the match on YTV and I was impressed with our win. That started my love affair with Blades and football (despite that my maternal uncles were all Wendy fans) and then I became a Lane regular from Jan 17th (beat Preston 2-0). My first FA Cup match was the 2-0 defeat at Pompey (went on the train special that took us from Sheffield direct to Portsmouth). I was gutted at the defeat but my dad said it would help us to concentrate on promotion. He was right

4-1. Field scored for us

Norwich was a great game and Deane and Agana terrorised them. They got lucky that day. Didn't Steve Thompson score an og for them? . Altrincham was a total disaster. Freezing cold and Trusson sent off but they were the king of the giant killers at the time. Watford (Blissett, Barnes etc) away (0-5) remembered for the huge noise blades fans made throughout especially when singing "where going win the cup" at 4 and 5-0 down.
Leeds 1-0 (2003- 6th Rd), Charlton and Manure when Bruce missed a penalty where the standouts for me

Thanks Silent Blade Don't know why in my mind it was Woodward......
Hamilton took over the penalties duty when he joined us in summer 1976 although Woody did take two penalties (v Fulham a in March 1977- think Chico was on bench and v Millwall h in March 1978). Gary Hamson did score two penalties too (v Cardiff h in March 1977 and v Notts County h in Oct 1977)

We were abysmal in my first years watching Utd, we never seemed to get past the third round. Loved my first real cup run when we frightened Norwich to death at their place as a third division side.
If I remember rightly they put a million pound bid in for Deane and Agana on the back of that.....?

Missed Xmas party about 71 to see us lose 1-3 home to Cardiff - grandad not happy as it was at his wmc !

Could've sworn woody scored at villa from edge of area in that 4-1 loss.

First FA Cup games I went to were watching us beat Stockport after extra time in a first round replay around 1980 at BDTBL in freezing cold and drawing 1-1 at home to Chessy in next round with Alan Birch equalising a Bob Hatton goal with 2 minutes left.... obviously we lost the replay.

Most memorable were beating Man U 2-1 in 5th Round in 93 and going to Upton Park to see us draw 0-0 in 4th Round with Charlton in 92, although not for the game which was dull as dishwatter, more for the journey which was 5 big lads in a mini metro!

That charlton game on a Sunday if I remember right. Got a mini bus outside white horse on cross. Driver said to one lad stick some de icer on windscreen for me. Stuck it on inside, the knob !

Start of a reight trip !

Was sat in the stand with Norwich supporters. As we left heard someone say typical Wimbledon. They had all the good fortune, a fluke own goal, a very dubious penalty and spent tge last 15 mins booting the ball anywhere to relieve the pressure. Deane and Agana score two brilliant goals. They were top of the first divison and we were two divisions below them. We were very unlucky.

Just had a look at my Alan Woodward's goals and assists thread. I was not at the match but Field is credited as the scorers in the newspapers and in our history books. Perhaps you didnt realise that Field got a touch to Woody's shot?

ASSIST - v Aston Villa (a) 25.1.75. From an indirect free kick inside the box Currie touched it on and Woodward hit a strong, low shot which Field glided in on the way into the net.

My first memory was an FA Cup tie against Villa, (1965?) lost 2-0. What sticks in my mind was Keith Kettleborough getting sent off. It was unusual in those days for players to be sent off. Refs were far more lenient. First cup tie first sending off.

Remember the Villa game in 1975. I was living in Birmingham at the time and went a few times to watch Villa. Would always go on the Holte End but obviously for the FA Cup match against us I went on the old open Witton End. We were dreadful.

Went to the Everton game in January 1970. As Silent has mentioned this match was on ITV the following day. I had a reel to reel tape recorder and recorded Keith Macklin's commentary. Obviously with it being on television there were huge gaps of silence but I must have listened to that commentary for weeks, particularly the goals.
