Chedsterfield

I'm hoping for a convincing win and an opportunity to show Ched our support at the end - it'll be the first 'public meeting' between us and him since it all happened. Could help set his heart on a return here in January if it isn't already. I'd say I hope he has a good game too to show us and our management that he's worth signing but with it being on TV it would alert everyone else too.

Now now, i'll be fair to Chesterfield, as shit holes around Sheffield go, Chesterfield is slightly less shit than the others so lets get perspective. One of the better by-products of our good start to this season is finally we seem to have put the whole Ched saga to bed. Of course you wouldn't know it looking at this forum, but the chants of super-Ched, and general lack of Ched based chitter-chatter I think shows we've finally moved on.

We shouldn't move on completely until we're in a position where Ched could no longer improve our team. Or until we can get similar value elsewhere.

It will take more than Ched for Chesterfield to beat us. Someone has got to get the ball to him for a start. In the last 2 years CFC have lost Cooper (Leeds), Doyle (Cardiff, then apparently disappeared), Clucas (Hull), Darikwa (Burnley), Roberts (Portsmouth), Ryan (Fleetwood) and Morsy (Barnsley via Wigan) and not been able to replace any of them. Tommy Lee has been out injured all season as well. The fans think they are doomed to relegation already and they don't blame Danny, who is being asked to forge jewels out of raw shit. It's Dave Allen and Chris Turner they don't like, although everyone was happy enough when Allen was spending his money. Why they thought he would never want it back I can't imagine.

Man for man the Blades are better in every position. Maybe CFC will finally get a goal in the Cup against Colchester at the weekend but I can't see them scoring against us unless something very strange happens.

And the game will definitely not be called off for internationals even though Conor Dimaio could be playing for Ireland under 21s and so be unable to take part in a match he might have enjoyed.

I think it's a very nice stadium. Easy to get to, easy to get parked for free, good real ale pubs within walking distance and even good real ale served on hand pump from a trolley inside the ground, so you don't have to queue for quarter of an hour to get a drink behind numpties who are queuing up for a packet of crisps and a Twix! The pies are good. The view from the stands is good. The rivalry is good.

It's all good really!

I think you must be thinking of the old ground at Saltergate?
That's the ground I was on about brother , can't comment on new ground as I ain't been yet ,
but old ground was a fuckin shithole , and was mostly night games as well

We ain't in South Yorkshire so are at an immediate advantage in the 'shit hole' face off.

Compared to Saltergate the Spireites' new ground is like a little piece of heaven. There's cover when you go for a wee these days and you don't have to step over a channel of piss before you begin and there is hot water in the taps.

And unlike the Shoreham End there are no pillars in the way when you are watching the match. You can see houses and streets outside as well, which makes the ground a cut above Shrewsbury, for example.

I passed by Falkirk's new stadium a few weeks ago. It's not only cheap and nasty but it's miles out of Falkirk. Likewise Colchester, Bolton, Coventry and Stoke. Chesterfield's ground is, at least, in Chesterfield, and it was a kind thought to build it on Sheffield Road too.

To be fair to the Birtannia - it would have been surronded by buildings and houses but they demolished them in the 70s and 80s
I liked the Victoria Ground - good old fashioned stadium in the middle of streets of terraced houses.
Lived in one for a year only 2 mins from the ground

A chezvegas fan I know says Ched is being man marked by all clubs and that is their attack threat cancelled. Put big E E L on him and it's looking good !!!

You mean The Recreation Ground?

You mean The Recreation Ground?

Yep. That's what it's official name was, but everyone always referred to it as "Saltergate", because, (unsurprisingly perhaps), it was on Saltergate.

I drove past the other day. It's now a small housing estate. Hard to believe it was once a football ground. Mind you, we'll be saying just the same about Hillsborough in a few years time when Chansiri has moved them out to a massive all purpose stadium near the M1 and sold off the ground to developers.

I reckon we should unfurl a banner at the Chessie game, alongside a big photo of Ched scoring in a red and white shirt should be the legend "Come home in January, hero Ched!" :)
He was part of the team that got us relegated and then played in a team that couldn't get promoted, missing key games. He's no hero of mine
