Do we have a prolific striker in Billy?

As long as he says fit Billy is Twenty goals + a season guaranteed at this level. Every other side in the division would kill to have him.

If that lazy git thinks I'm going to start singing shit 80's songs to his name just because he scored another winner, he's exactly right. Arrogant sod.

10 goals before November isn't bad.

If his target is 20 goals again then I hope he's reconsidering that.

Id just like to point out that it was beginning of last season when i said billy was 'shit.' i said he was 'ok' when he started scoring. But i dont rate him as much as the majority do. He's a blade at heart, thats his crowd pleaser. Other than that he runs and runs to no avail majority of the time and the times he does score the keepers caughtbof gaurd.. How many times have we seen billy sharp one on one with the keeper and slot it past him? Its usually hit straight into the keepers hands.

He's alreight ar, but hes no worldy like some like to make him out to be.. United saviour and all that ..

Id just like to point out that the auther of this post believes that because he hung about with someone at school that knew billys brother, as they all do (lol) hes started to beleive that he has a bias oppinion as he knows the 'Sharp Family.' so please dont let this morons misguided words fool you on what i actually think about sheffield united and any player at it lol

Would you take Billy as our main man up top if we began next season as a Championship team?

There's no one better at this level though really.

Billy is about as good as it gets in this league. We need someone else to regularly hit the onion bag though.

He only scores one goal per game though.... oh hold he scored two at Bradford and two at Shrews...errrrrrm he only bumps up his goal scoring tally by scoring penaltys though and any one can score them... oh hang on Man City missed two in one match the other week,,,..

All about opinions but yours is way off mate. We're 3rd division, Billy's the bollocks at this level and ask any other team in this league if they'd like to have him. I think we know what the answer would be.

Where we are in the echelons of football, there would be championship teams willing to give blood for a lad like OUR Billy.
As a club, on the upturn as we are, lazy or not,a player who has his goals per game ratio as billy has is like gold dust.
He has it in his locker. Class striker, who we are lucky to have.
The one thing Adkins did right for this club was re unite him back home.

According to Wikipedia Billy has played 406 games in his career and scored 170. Bill Dearden, coincidentally, played 406 games in his career and scored 99. Just a shame Billy didn't score more for us in the past, but he's certainly making up for it in his latest spell.

He's coming good no doubt about that but anyone claiming he didn't have a considerably slow start to the season and even into the start of the good run, as far as actual performances are concerned frankly isn't telling the truth. Of course, now he's playing better there are all these smarmy remarks about those who criticised him. Of course they are conveniently ignoring or are just too stupid to realise that at the time, those criticisms were spot on and wholly accurate.

Football works on the team who score the most goals win the game. Billy scores goals. We win games. How many runs he makes and where don't matter so long as he's scoring goals every week. Staggered anyone can criticise the bloke to be honest.

The entire side started the season very poorly. It wasn't a wild guess when people suggested that Sharp would score enough goals this season, and it wasn't a guess that he'd shine if we started creating more chances. It was based on empirical evidence of his career so far.

Edit: And there were people who said he was past it. I referenced those posts in a thread last week and can't be arsed to go find them again.

But you could say that for all top strikers at every club. All players suffer drops in form, that does not make them a bad player. Billy has scored goals where ever he's played, that's the most important thing here.

If anyone said he was a bad player, then they're silly.

The ones I read however, were accurate observations of his, at the time, poor form.

I'm just feeling too smugly triumphant to care about the simple village folk slagging him off to be honest.

*by 'him' I mean Top Scorer Billy Sharp, just to be clear.

Granted. He did start the season poorly. But aside from Morris at Scunthorpe, who are obviously top of the table, Billy is the best striker in the league on stats. That's not including everything else he does for the team, as captain.

I expect Morris to drop down the scoring chart before the season ends, because he's young and if he goes a few games without scoring he might struggle to recapture the form because of his age.

There we are then. We are in agreement.

But people were wanting him dropped and a replacement signing, granted not necessarily you, but every player has a drop in form, sensible people realised and made the points at the time he would get back to his best sooner rather than later, you can't blame anyone for pointing out how correct they were, after all some still point out how correct they were about Adkins.

..don't they?

No No.

Saying you were right about Adkins shows footballing insight and knowledge.

Saying you were right about Sharp is being smug. Didn't you know?

Those who pointed out his poor form were correct. Those who predicted an upturn in his form were also correct. Fair? Let's just leave it at that. And yes I do like to remind people about Adkins, mainly just to try and even things up from the amount of shit I took all last season. But to do that properly I'd have to be on about it for a whole season, so consider yourself lucky you only get a few reminders here and there. :)

All payers go in and out of form...goal scorers keep scoring, even when out of form, that's a talent worth having in any side.

UTB!
