United u23s v Hull u23s report....

The reason we need to think short term is not because of changing managers per se but because we've been in L1 for a long time, it's costing our owners too much money and isn't sustainable. We've already had to downgrade the academy due to lack of funds so it's pretty apparent that we need to get promotion as soon as we can, for the long term benefit of the club.

The practical matter of 'grounding' youth players is that to do so, you have to play them regularly.

So which of our players do you think are good enough to play first team football regularly and which current first team players do you think we should drop to facilitate this?

You seem to be suggesting we should drop a player like Coutts or Fleck, who are performing well for us, to play someone like Reed, who isn't even performing well in the u-23s, in the hope that he may one day be a good player.
Bush you do talk a lot of sense, but grounding young players is not all about playing week in week out. Its about introducing them to regular first team training, being involved in first team squads, getting on the bench, then being introduced to first team starts.
This can take 1, 2, 3 years depending on the position, age of the player.
We seem to think that once these kids play for the U23s they should be ready or nearly ready. Some will be some wont.

I also seriously don't think any supporter would advocate dropping Coutts or Fleck to squeeze a player in just because he is from the academy. Once he shows he is good enough to do so then fine.

What i do have an issue with is Chapman being used over Brookes, why should we bring a young lad from Middlesboro on to the next level when we can do that with Brookes.
Why have we got Brown? When Whiteman can do no worse and probs better??

Just my opinion.

When we reach the Championship how brilliant it would be if we had a couple of lads fully grounded in first team football already and then that saves funds for better new players and just as importantly helps with continuity, preserving a culture and identifying Bramall Lane as a youth development club in the eyes of existing youngsters, prospective loanees and new young signings.

larkymasher I'm having trouble quoting on my phone but I was replying to the specific comment above, based on my expectation of promotion within the next two seasons. If we want players who are 'fully grounded' to start in the Championship then I think they'll need some games.

I'm getting tired of posting that I'm in favour of the academy and I want our kids to do well. I just want us, right now, to be fully focussed on promotion and nothing else.

IWWT.
That is all.

WAWAW.
Actually that is all. Not the bit above. This bit.
Actally we should sing that it would piss the pigs off like you've never known. I'm claiming it.
WE'RE ALL WILDER AREN'T WE?

I kind of thought that Bush......

I understand now.....

Pinchy - "Blade not Bladey", says it all, whatever it means(!) and it seems important to you that Reed doesn't succeed.

Actually mate, it's a matter of indifference. What is dear to me is that the club I've loved for over 50 years should succeed. I don't see Louis Reed (who I have seen play many times) as furthering that objective. If I did I would say so. I find your faith in him baffling to say the least, and against the weight of increasing evidence. Please don't come back with "England" again. We've done that one.

My friend larkymasher watches the kids. Like you he would love to see them come through, but unlike you, he accepts it won't happen by wishing on a star. I realise you won't listen to me, but you should listen to him.

"Not Bladey" means I don't add a premium to any player or manager because they come from Sheffield and/or support United.

Great to see Brooks and Whiteman both on the bench yesterday, can't ask for any more than that as yet.

Having seen a fair bit of the youngsters this yr I'd say brooks and whiteman were closest to getting a game but neither ATM are close to getting a start reed really has gone backwards for whatever reason but sometimes this happens with the youngsters ,chapman although not ours could help the push for promotion although he looks the part at times with undoubted skill the end product is missing more often than not for me the one who I have my eye on is Cummings I feel this lad can make it if he applies himself
