Basham Immense

When I started this thread I did point out that we need Jack O'Connell back in the team asap but no way would I drop Basham to change things. My choice would be to drop Lafferty bring Basham into midfield and move Duffy out wide, one poster says we now have three nice footballers in midfield well I don't disagree with that but I think at this level you need a physical strong mobile player in there to get amongst them. I think CW saw that we were getting overpowered in there and that's why he pulled off Coutts and pushed Basham in to stem the tide. Thank God Chris and me know what were doing.;)

Just got back from Bradford after an excellent day out, terrific game and a credit to league one. Many fans have been on here saying Basham is not good enough but if you had been there today you would have realised what an integeral part he is to the team, winning tackles, headers and spraying some great passes to his team mates his performance was immense. Only down side was CW not picking O'Connell at left back where 2 of their goals were scored, he would have been there to clear both.
The defence was more shaky than it's been for a few games but not as shaky as theirs, Moore never made a save yet picked the ball out of the net three times whereas their keeper made three great saves. I have been a critic of Sharp over the last few weeks but today he was on fire and scored 2 great goals, sadly he let himself down by giving the yap yap sign to the fans after his second goal. He gets paid a lot of money to ply his trade and should take criticism in his stride. Last season we would have gone under but not now with this set of players and could have won it in the end, a great team spirit which fills me with optimism for the future and if we can keep these high standards up then we will be very near to promotion come May.

Have said this before to an extent.

If I follow you correctly, you are advocating we go to 4-4-2? No need to panic, we are 10 unbeaten with 3-5-2.
Just trying to get our best 11 on the pitch every game Bladey, not bothered about the formation as we now have players that can adapt. No connection between me and CW except we are both ex pros who think Basham is essential to the team.

Did you play for United?

Did you play for United?
Only as a junior in the old Northern intermediate league, not good enough to oust players like Badger, B Shaw, Birchenall, Jones, Monks, Woodward, Salmons ect who all came through at the same time as me. Got released as thousands of others have and apart from a short spell at Luton just drifted down the spiral to Sunday morning pub football.

I've no problem with Basham's part in the first Bradford goal, because its just unfortunate that his touch wasn't strong enough and at least he was trying to intercept the ball, before it got across. But the Bradford third goal, he's totally left his man free in acres of space, whilst Basham is jogging back completely unaware that his man is free. I don't think he didn't track him because he couldn't be bothered to sprint, but i he's trying to pass him to someone else he needs to communicate, and really it was his man.

I was concerned with the defending for all of the goals to be honest, not just from Basham. Lafferty is totally unaware where his man is for the first goal to slot in and for the second we seem to have school boy type defending, where everyone goes to the ball and then leaves spaces and men in behind for an easy tap in. EEL is the main culprit for the second, when all is needs to do is stay with his man in the middle who then scores, with EEL on his arse trying to head a ball that was never his. There's also another Bradford player totally unmarked for that goal too! Overall though, EEL is immense and totally what we needed so I don't want to seem harsh on the lad, we should definitely be looking to sign him in January. A great draw from the game too, that we would all have taken pre-match. I just think with better defending we would have won that, although that's an obvious statement!

After watching a few times I've got Basham at fault for all 3.

for the first he ran to the attacker, which caused freeman to check his run, and then stopped, eel would have dealt with it. Your point about communication applies here too.

For the second I thought eel had the other man and it was fleck that got out-jumped which is understandable but that should have been bashams man

Not slating him as he is unused to playing that system

I also think we some times tend to get stuck in the past lads, it's no longer a game of just eleven players, the subs are now as inportant as the first eleven ...
For me Bash like Scuoogg can be a game changer, but I don't think either should be in our first eleven ...
having said that if Mr Wilder says they should be I'll willingly agree..........:)

;)
Were you at Luton when Graham French was playing with them? He had a short and eventful football career before going to prison and I dont think any football stattos are sure if he is still alive!
Can't remember him SB but it was 55 yrs ago and the old memory aint what it used to be, one player I do remember who was there at the same time as me was a young kid called Malcolm McDonald who looked like he might go on to better things.;)

Do you mean 45 years ago? Supermac left Fulham to join Luton in summer 1969 and went to Newcastle in 1971. Graham French served a 3 year prison sentence after a pub shooting incident in 1970

I wish he had the same leadership skills as Wright, because he is a better player than him. But Wright is absolutely class at what he does so it's imperative he stays in the team.

I think it's unfortunate for him but when JOC is back Basham needs to go back to the bench, no matter how well he played yesterday. We conceded 3 goals, JOC has been a big part of our good run and is only now missing due to illness.

Basham is gonna have to wait his turn for me.

I agree with this. JOC gives us a better balance in the back 3 and Fleck is in great form so Bash would go to the bench for me. I like him but like anyone else, he will have to wait for his chance and take it when it comes. He could dislodge anyone of 6 players (including Freeman) at some point so sure he will get chances but my starting 11 for KM would be the one that started against Vale.

Basham in the side in any position for any reason whatsoever is a recipe for disaster .

Sell him , swap him , give him away . I don't care how we do it , just get that bloody poor excuse for a footballer out of my club .

Didn't do bad did he? ;)

He's improved tenfold over the past couple of months but not enough to warrant a first team place. The others are performing too well.

Don't think any of our players are as you describe Bash Luke, Wilder wouldn't put up with F-----g S--t in any position and if this is how you back one of our players with comments like that after the great run were on then God help them if things go tits up.

It's a piss take aimed at a certain poster who curses the very air that Basham breathes . He always has and he always will no matter how he plays .

Now that IS lamentable wouldn't you agree ?
