All right then. Bewildering to me. Bad fit. Said so in July. Nothing's changed my mind.

I think he’s a decent plan B. I said at the time I would have preferred Akinde for the big guy option but Clarke has scored goals regularly at this level and is big and powerful which is a type of striker we don’t otherwise have, Could play a role similar to the one the chief played in the triple assault season.

I believe so.

Unless we had another utterly ineffective striker in the ranks at this time,I believe it was Leon. Tactics and lumping the ball have nothing to do with an inability to control a football.

But hey ho. He's big. Wi big muscles. Like Hendo !

Clarke ain't my cup of tea. Many of you disagree. That's fine. Maybe I'm wrong. I reckon he has a hell of s job getting back in the side.

Time will tell.

UTB

If we started smashing the ball up to Sharp instead of playing to his strengths then he too would be ineffectual. Clarke isn't your 'cup of tea' based on a handful of games where the team as a whole were terrible. His previous record speaks for itself. In terms of his, extremely short, time here so far he has demonstrated ability to control a football and he has demonstrated good movement. I think your obvious bias towards the guy is clouding your judgement. You've got this strange notion that Clarke is nothing but a target man (like 'Hendo') when that couldn't be further from the truth.

The fact that you describe him as 'big with big muscles' backs up my view that we are talking about two different players. Being tall doesn't always correlate with being 'Big'.[/QUOTE]
It's not though LJ.

It's based on times I Have seen him in a Coventry shirt. A Bury shirt. A pig shirts. Etc etc.

I must have seen him play at least a dozen times live. Seen him score plenty of goals (all against us !).

Even in the decent goal scoring form I have witnessed, he has been mostly ineffective in his role, and an extremely poor technical footballer.

We picked him up from Bury for (est) £125,000. There is a reason for this !

At some point this lad will be needed this season and he will score some goals. Leavr him be. The end of my thread contribution on this one

Wanna bet you don't ?

No mate, I was only joking.

I do think 6 games, at a new club, when we were playing poor, and carrying an injury for at least some of them is no where near enough time to judge a player

i think he will be an important player for us at the business end of the season when we need to grind out results

Rinse.

Repeat.

Ps if Wilder has faith in him to put him on the pitch for any significant amount of time for the remainder of the season, I hope to god, for the overall success of the squad and our promotion push, that I'm wrong about this fella.
Too much hinges on him IF Wilder considers him centric to the plans.

A strikers main purpose is to score goals and Leon Clarke scored 18 last season. How effective would you like him to be?

Remember, just because you aren't able to/won't see something it doesn't mean it isn't true.

I like these charity bets. I've had a couple myself over recent seasons (unfortunately, I won both having bet we would finish behind Bristol and Wolves). A bit of competition whilst the money goes to a good cause. In fact, you just reminded me I have one running at present with blade too long.

I hope you said the world is spherical!

I remember someone ringing Bob Jackson years back all incredulous because Glynn Hodges asked him the United score while in the Yorkshire Grey.

Yes but Hodgy could get away with it!!

Akinde's still banging them in. I'm surprised no one came in for him before the window closed. I can see why CW chose Clarke over him but you'd think he could do a job for some L1 club.

If we get Man U in the cup this season and Clarke lofts the winner over De Gea then he can sit in the Common Room singing Hi Ho Sh....... W.......... as far as I'm concerned.

look forwarding to collecting when we buy EEL in january

Totally and completely agree. Which is why we should have gone for a player with the best attributes of Lavery (speed) and Clarke in the one package rather than the cheap option.

A lot easier said than done I will concede.

We miss Che Adams. Badly.

Again, Che made his bed so we had a limited amount of control on this and Wilder has used the fee wisely to strengthen the squad overall.

But we miss his quality.

UTB

Don't miss Che at all IMHO.

Love the old quote function

Went to the common room last night to watch footy and Clarke was watching it on his tod. He looked miserable so I thought I'm not going to bother saying hello.

My mate decided to though. Now we're winning 2-0 at this point and my mate says "looking good this mate, 2-0 isn't it" Clarke says "is it?" And pulls out his phone then changes his mind and puts it back in his pocket.

Seems strange to me that he wasn't even bothering to check the score. Found that annoying that he clearly didn't care.
Common room ? where is this.
