It is four wins in a row for the Blades as they move further up the table with a hard fought victory over Peterborough at Bramall Lane. For the first time this season they kept a clean sheet thanks to some good goalkeeping and defending as they were able to hang onto an excellent team goal eventually converted from Matty Done. United had to work hard for the win and the visitors will feel they deserved something from the game having had more efforts on goal by some distance. However, the home side impressed the loyal following by showing a great grit and effort and qualities that they had maybe not seen for some time.

Manager Wilder began with the same side that started the win against Wimbledon with just one change on the bench with Laverty coming in for the injured Clarke. Visitors’ Boro came into the game in the playoff places and were one of the highest scoring sides in the football league but also one of the sides that conceded the most.

United began the game well and with Duffy and Done involved pushed the visitors back to create some early openings. United won a few throw ins and corners but could not force any clear chances early on. Basham and Coutts helped the Blades control midfield and the confidence was visible. Sharp had the first real chance when he fired over after good work from Done. United then made an even better opening when Done was played in by Freeman but McGee made a brilliant reflex save when it seemed like he would score.

Soon after the same man would make no mistake. It was a superb move with quick passing and incisive passing played at pace. Coutts and Basham were involved and the ball was played wide to Freeman again. His cross came over at pace and was converted clinically at the near post by DONE.

United came again with Duffy providing a half chance for Sharp and then Freeman getting in and scooping badly over. The home side were in dominant mood and the visitors had not been in the game. United continued to control matters on and off the ball for a long spell but slowly towards the end of the half Peterborough started to come back into it and finished the half well.

Moore had to save well after De Silva played Taylor in and the keeper dived to his right. Soon after the goalkeeper made a save to his left in more routine fashion keeping out Taylor. Maddison then drifted past Lafferty and got a good cross in that evaded everyone as United became a bit ragged. They needed to get to half time but strong defending from Ebanks Landell saw United clear their lines twice to get into the break in front.

After conceding possession and territory for the final 20 minutes of the half; manager Wilder made a change with Scougall coming on for Lafferty and the substitute began wide right with Duffy on the left in a more traditional 4-4-2 with O’Connell playing a more orthodox left back and Sharp just behind Done.

Duffy had an effort curled wide before Maddison did likewise for Posh as the game became worryingly more open for the home side. Done kept plugging away and won possession twice just from sheer perspiration.

Scoguall had two efforts on goal; one an excellent driven effort with little backlift well saved from McGee who pushed behind and then a wild slice over soon after.

Peterborough continued to have a lot of the ball but at this stage had not had any clear chances and opted to make all three changes in one go on the hour!

Soon after good football reminiscent of the move that United scored from nearly produced a leveller. Peterborough came down the right and a decent flurry of passes; Moore put the ball over and Edwards from close range was denied by Moore who made an excellent save.

After referee Swarbrick had kept his card away and tried to keep things glowing; a flurry of yellows came with three for United and two for Peterborough in less than 15 minutes. It seemed he had tried to let things flow but a Sharp pull back was the sign for the flash of yellow time and time again in this spell. Incredibly a blatant pull back from Edwards (the worst foul of them all) escaped censure!

Fleck was brought on for Duffy as United tried to wrestle more of the midfield battle away as the time ticked away. Peterborough continued to prompt and Bostwick had an effort saved as United tried to hold what they had. However, on the break they nearly killed the game. Some atrocious defending saw Done get in but his attempted lob was wide.

Posh came again but Moore pushed away again and despite two corners in quick succession, United held firm.

Lavery then came on for the tiring Sharp and chased down two long balls to help see the ball out into the corner. Ebanks Landell was carded for alleged timewasting as the game entered an allotted additional four minutes. In this stoppage time the Blades’ game management was excellent. Coutts had a run and shot deflected over and much of the closing stages happened in the Peterborough half. Smith was booked for dissent and soon after the game ended to signal another win for the Blades.

United – Gritty and determined. Two words I did not use much to describe United last season or indeed in many seasons’ in recent times. Quality wise we were lacking for long periods today despite scoring a great goal and having some decent spells in the game. However, what we had to do was graft, get bodies in the way and do the scruffy stuff to ensure we did not concede. I thought in the first half we did well for the first half hour but then struggled for the final 15 and did well to keep the lead up to half time with Moore making a good save.

After the break the game was scrappy and they had the better of it but Moore made another fine reflect save. They had much more of the play but did not create tons of chances and we did defend well and for the final spell of the game saw them out well. Indeed, they seemed to run out of gas and I felt by the end we saw the game out well. Another day we could have drawn or even lost but we have lost similarly close games at Bolton and Millwall so today maybe it was our turn to see out a close game.

First half we were good and I felt for the opening spells controlled midfield and created a few half chances. The goal we scored was an excellent move and well-made and finished. At this stage we looked the much better side but then they came more into it and we had to see out the first half with a good save from Moore. Second half was a bit disjointed and they came onto us more and more. We tried to change the formation after ending the first half hanging on but we struggled to keep hold of the ball and started to sit back more.

You felt they may nick one and could not argue if they had but Moore made another really good save and the defence did the things they had not done last year; kicking and clearing their lines and not making any really bad mistakes. We put a lot of effort in and got the key foot in and tackle and I saw players actually trying really hard which was a novelty after recent years!

With 15 to play you feared they still may get one but then we made some changes and too be fair to United we ended up seeing out the game fairly comfortably and the final few minutes was spent more in their half.

On the ball for an hour (last 15 of first half and second half) we were a bit sloppy and made some poor decisions. We did not have many openings second half and ended up kind of hanging onto what we had really. It was an odd one as we led 1-0 and did not want to go hell for leather so ended up just trying to keep a shape and keeping them from easy chances. They had one really good one where we got cut apart and Moore saved us but other than that many of their chances were more from range. I felt more at ease than I have in seasons past with a seemingly more solid defence.

Midfield was mixed with Coutts and Duffy fading badly and Basham actually being our most consistent man in the midfield. I felt Done worked really hard but Sharp was quiet again. The defence was the strongest part of the side. Still a lot to improve on but the fact we are in the top 6 and have won 4 in a row and can improve is a positive. I am hoping we can stay around these positions in build up to Xmas and then maybe bring 2 or 3 more in to add to the current side. We still lack quality in the central area for me and unconvinced by Lafferty, Duffy and Chapman who have flattered to deceive so far in the wide areas.

The biggest thing about recent games is the effort and application. There has been a real willingness to run the extra yard, to put the block in and make the blocks. They have shown a desire and an effort. They look bothered. That to me is down to Wilder so a big well done to him as changing the losing culture and application has been one of the biggest issues in SUFC in recent years. It is only a short span of results/performances but an upward curve in those key areas.

Tough game next week but we have to go there with belief knowing we have 3/4 at home after that. They have done team 5 and 6-0 in the last two games so it will be a real test. I had them down as a top 6 side due to continuity and a hardworking, settled side but man for man United are as good as them and need to there with a belief that we can win.

Peterborough – We will see a lot worse sides at the Lane this season. They played ok for long spells and will feel hard done by not to get a point. They had more possession, shots on target and corners and for an away side had a lot of the ball but overall we have been undone by key moments in both boxes and today we were better at that. At Millwall and other games last season we have been well in the game but lost goals and missed chances. That was the case with Peterborough today. They switched off to allow Done to score and then at the other end had a few similarly good chances but missed them (Moore made 2 good saves). I also felt for all the play they had second half they were wasteful when it mattered and they kind of petered out (intentional pun) at the end and we did see the game out reasonably comfortably.

They have some strong players in the side. I think Maddison could play higher and the lad in midfield Moncur (see below) looks a class act. Bostwick is a good competitor too. They have some good size and athletes and pace too. I will be surprised if they finish lower than the top 10 and will score goals as they have done all year. We will be one of few to keep them to nil so big credit to our defence. They have gone through a lot of manager and chances and the chairman seems even more impatient than ours (although we have considerably more resources/crowd size– or you would think we would) but they do seem to recruit quite well and always seem to bring in good players from non-league/lower level.

Opponent man of the match: Moncur. He fell to ground a lot and dived/whinged and moaned but showed a lot of quality on the ball. He proved he can play higher than League One and I expect him to make an impression at Barnsley eventually but of course they are doing well at the moment and he has not been able to get in the side. He is decent on the ball and can run with the ball as well as see a pass. If he cut out the theatrics would be even better.

Opponent Weak link: Nobody was awful. I felt the two centre backs Bostwick and Baldwin struggled at times with Done’s effort and willingness to run but they were ok generally. I like the lad Taylor as a footballer but felt he was not in the game and seemed disinterested much of the contest as the combative Ebanks Landell and O’Connell showed good muscle and tackling to see him off.

SUFC Player Ratings –

Moore 8.5/10 – Excellent performance. Made two great saves. One down low in the first half and then a brilliant reflex save in the second. Amongst this he made another 2 or 3 decent saves and a few more regulation ones. He caught crosses and his handling was good. I liked the way he pushes shots away from goal; even though some of saves may have seemed routine; he at least made sure they could not convert the rebound. This was one of Long’s weaknesses. He was very good today and commanded his box well and looked the real deal. Only weakness was his kicking. He found touch an awful lot but did seem to be under instruction to kick wide.

Freeman 7/10 – He was alright but it was not his best performance of the season and at times he was a bit erratic. Early on got forward and scooped a good chance over the bar and a few other occasions his final ball/shot was off today. However, he put in two good crosses for Done; one was saved and one was scored. Defensively he was ok save for a few moments when he let his winger get away. Needed to be a bit tighter to his man.

Lafferty 5.5/10 – Not sure what his strengths are. Played left wing back but seemed more advanced than defensive with O’Connell behind him. His passing and general play was poor. He gave it away more than he kept it and seemed very languid. He is not particularly fast nor mobile and is not a defensive presence. Not convinced by him. Interesting that Hussey never got to play in this new formation despite his poor start as a Blade. Lafferty needs to do much more and he was taken off at half time as changed formation.

Ebanks Landell 8/10 – Excellent. The no nonsense centre back we have been waiting for. He just headed and kicked it away. He was nothing flashy and not a ball player but when he had it he did use it reasonably well. Defensively though he did not put a foot wrong other than one slip near the end where they nearly got in. He was rock solid. Just did what you want of a centre back. A big lad who is difficult to shift and his size is something we have not have.

O’Connell 7.5/10 – Think he has improved a lot since a jittery start to his Blades career. He had been better in a 3 and used his left sided ability well. Today he defended well, used the ball well when he could and was solid in the basics. Made a few tackles and was committed. Ended up more in a left back role but as he did against Oxford did well there. Think he could be a decent player long term and one that may grow as the team improves.

Wright 7/10 – Steady-ish although seemed to lose his man on both the chances they had when he lost his concentration and Moore bailed him out. On the ball he is not the best and lacks pace but he is a club man type who keeps position and reads the game fairly well. He has been steady since he came in. Long term I feel we may bring in another defender to play there but he has done well and we have won four on the bounce since he started so cannot argue with his record which is 100% in wins. Does seem to be good at organising and talking and seems a very committed sort of guy.

Basham 7.5/10 – Thought he was once again all action and put a lot of effort in to the game. Not everything came off and at times his touch/composure let him down but he won a lot of loose balls and carried it on well at times. He looks languid at times and struggles to make those killer passes but those are not his strengths. His strengths are running hard, getting interceptions and breaking play up; then moving it on. He has done that well the last few weeks. Long term is he the answer? Not sure but he has been better the last few games and allowed us to have some good spells of midfield. I am not sure ultimately he offers enough on the ball nor offers us anything of note offensively but his current performance level has been solid. Some daft fouls and got booked but his effort and intensity was excellent today.

Coutts 6.5/10 – He had played really well recently but today he had a decent first half performance but it was the Coutts of old and he faded badly after the break. He began well with some nice promptings, link up play and switches of play. He showed his class as we had a good start to the game. After the break I felt he became tired and was behind the play. They broke from him several times (fouled 2 or 3 times before the eventual deserved booking) and I felt the fitness and pace of the opposition was too much. He reminded me of the Coutts of last season that ended games completely knackered with his hands on his knees and struggling to keep up. Fleck helped him when he came on giving us more legs. He has been decent this season but the 2nd half was all too reminiscent of last season and one before that and he must show he can play 90 minutes. I felt Bash and Fleck covered a lot for him final 20 minutes when it seemed his race was run.

Duffy 6/10 – Mixed bag again. First 20 minutes he got on the ball and looked lively making opening and linking well but then he became marginalised somewhat. He showed he can pass the ball and shows good body shape to drift into good areas and be a link between defence and attack. The new formation seems him play in a kind of number 10 role but his shooting/final ball was not good enough. Second half he faded badly and I felt he did well to make 78 minutes. He was barely involved second half and one of first time I noticed him was when he was taken off! Still lacking consistency for me which is a shame as there is a player that can offer a fair but to hurt teams at this level.

Done 7.5/10 – Just sheer effort all game. Did not get on the ball much at all really and often was chasing scraps but put a phenomenal amount of effort into the game chasing lost causes, running down the channels and across the front line. Never gave their defence a moment all day and caused a number of errors or players just to hack it out. Felt he put so much more into the game than Sharp today. Got in front of his man to finish a decent goal. Maybe should have got a clincher when he lobbed over in the second half in a rare chance for United. He embodied our performance today which may have lacked in quality at times but showed gusto and endeavour and allowed us to get the win.

Sharp 6.5/10 – Thought he tried hard without much happening with the ball or in front of goal. Had a few runs and decent hold up play where he came to life but often the game was played behind him and he struggled to make a difference. Second half he ended up more withdrawn and played a bit deeper but still struggled to make an impact. He had no real chances on goal and his role today was more to chase and get on loose balls. He is looking tired after an hour of games this season which is a worry and was rightly taken off for Lavery.

Subs

Scougall 7/10 – Like Done thought he put a tremendous amount of effort into the game. On the ball his control and passing was poor and he was very sloppy. Had one great shot well saved but his decisions on the ball were generally poor. However, he ran around with real gusto and chased about making the opponents turn possession over or kick it out. In this sense he embodies what Wilder wants with the effort and pressing. Just a shame on the ball he is lacking and often gives it away or gets crowded out. Still spends too much time on the floor too and needs to be stronger despite his size. Has shown a better appetite this season and a useful lad to bring on as opponents much hate playing against him as he is nonstop.

Fleck – Came on and did well as he won a few tackles and made some decent runs as we sought to have more of the ball in the final stages. His Blades career has been a bit stop start so far and the form of Coutts-Basham and the change of formation (with Duffy in a three) has meant he has had to wait as we have won a few games. Think he looks a combative player who is decent on the ball and expect him to back in the side longer term.

Lavery – Did not get long to impress. Had a few runs and touches but by this stage we were just seeing the game out and he did help up have spells in either corner flag to see out the final moments. Look forward to seeing more of him.

Manager – Wilder 7/10 – It is another win. We have kept a clean sheet and looked more solid generally. We fought for loose balls and had a unity and resolve about us. It was not brilliant but it was hard working and we hung onto what we had. At times we were under the cosh but the new players he brought into the backline did well. Credit to him for changing the formation and trying to stem the flow as they ended the first half well. It may not have totally nullified the threat but credit to him for trying as he put Scougall on the right and Duffy on the left and brought Sharp further back meaning we ended up with a 4-4-1-1 type of formation. They still had the better of things but gave us another body to chase and harry. I thought the two other subs also helped give us more energy as Fleck and Lavery gave us some enthusiasm to help us see out the game amongst some tired legs. Wilder will be pleased with the four wins in a row and know he has seen much more resilience and determination to get results than we have seen for some time. Credit to him for taking us from bottom to 6th. We know there is a lot of work to do on the ball but we have more resilience and effort than we have seen for some time and some competition for places too. A big test next week but we go there as underdogs and that may suit us.

Ref – Neil Swarbrick has refereed a lot of Premier League games and been about for a while. Today he tried to keep his cards away and let the game flow but in the end it kind of cost him. He ended up booking a raft of players when fouls kept mounting up. It was odd as the fouls committed for bookings were no worse than the ones he let go but ended up booking on accumulation over a game rather than for individual players so Sharp got one, then Basham and Coutts (both rightly for cynical pull backs) . Smith and Moncur got booked for fairly innocuous fouls and then one of their lad blocked off ours cynically and escaped a booking amazingly. He then booked Ebanks Landell for alleged timewasting when Moore might have been doing it more than him! He became card happy for a spell after an hour of letting foul after foul go. I felt he was barely a homer and many of the 50/50 fouls seemed to go to the away side. He managed to get in the way of the ball twice to thwart two decent attacks for United! He was a bit inconsistent all day and went from being lenient to suddenly pulling most things up for the final part of the game. Got booed off by the home fans at the end which sums up his kind of performance when the home side won!

Crowd – Another near 20,000 crowd with around a 1,000 from Posh. A decent atmosphere in a fairly entertaining contest despite only being a single goal. Both teams went for it and there were a fair few chances. The level of skill was ok too and it is fair to say I have seen far worse games at this level. United’s crowd were buoyed by the effort and intensity of the home players if not the skill level which was mixed. Posh’s fans sensed they had a go too and willed them to a leveller and on another day they may have got a point at least but the United fans respected the high level of effort/application and in turn responded with good level of support in noise and encouragement. That is all Blades fans ask for really; the team to look like they give a damn and try their best. Today they did that.

thought our "game management" was exemplary in the last 20 minutes - CW & AK have certainly been talking to them in the past few weeks.

Particularly in the last 7-10 minutes we kept them away from our goal - great to see.

Progress each week now............Scunthorpe? top of the league?................yet another test.........bring it on.

UTB

PS: quality performance from a prem ref btw

Not the greatest start of game for me. Was moved out of my seat that ive had for 14 seasons. Because of ticket office cock up where they sold a family with young kids tickets either side of the 2 ST seats i have (but i was on my own as my niece was at birthday party) & with possible 1st timer confusion as they wanted to sit together. & dad said I'll need these seats. Luckily i could in row in front & probally best thing as the kids played musical chairs in 1st half

But anyway on the match that was a Tough very tightly fought win, but wilder will be sort of happy that will be another test passed where we kept a clean sheet under some pressure at times. 4 wins in row & nice to be up in 6th, which should be panic over considering before last home game v oxford we were bottom of league. Couldnt remember a bigger must win this early in the season. Now not to single out anyone because their are alot of players who are doing great now sharp done basham wright scougall , but i think its no coincidence that our upturn in form has come with simon moores arrival. Had a great 1st impressions v oxford where felt comfortable straight away. 3 fantastic saves again today especially that point blank 1 amazing. Kept us in the game & utd j think only lost 1 game in 90min in all competitions. That was only cos oconnells self destruction at millwall. Might be the 1 of best buys we had for a long while. The best Goalie ive watched at the lane since the traitor left

Good game for the neutral and some good stuff from Peterboro

The stats on the BBC have Boro with 10 shots on target - bit silly really as half of them were punts that Moore could have thrown his hat on....

Thanks DB

Scoring Duffy 6.5 and Scougall 7 seems inconsistent to me.

Duffy had another good game today even though he was clearly gassed 10 mins before he was subbed. He was tidy with possession and found good space. Overall I think he gives a much bigger threat in the final third of the pitch then Scougall (which is why Duffy starts and Scougall doesn't).

Scougall looks busy, but has little quality on the ball and even less willing to commit in 50/50 situations which means he doesn't make an impact n the game. That was the case again today IMO.

Overall think we had played well. They only really created one gilt edged chance when Moore produced a tremendous save, the remaining shots were more speculative - tho as we saw in this fixture last year they could easily catch us out.

Agree O'Connell is now playing well and interestingly looks more competent at left back than our 2 specialists.

Still troubled by Wrights lack of quality on the ball - you can see why this is the highest level he's been at. However, he hasn't really made any errors and seems to be a calming influence which is obviously required with EEL (who was excellent) and O'Connell only being young lads and you cant argue with the results

Feel Freeman has made the biggest difference in last 4 games tho, reminiscent of brayford in his prime, boundless energy and put in 2 terrific balls for Done. The back 4/5 is starting to gel

Thought duffy did well enough, could of nice passes and ept the ball well. Faded in the second half, but I suspect that was more because we were on the back foot.

Lavery had a couple of nice touches in his cameo enough for me to be looking forward to him being fully fit.

Oh and imo that been bashams best game for a long while, thought he was excellent

For the first time in a while enjoyed a good game of football at The Lane today. Fair play to the blades, at last it appears we have some balls against a very decent team and a manger who's not afraid to change things when winning and 45 mins to play..I'm happy tonight UTB

Good report DB..Impressed with Moore today, although I got a bit worried when he came out when their player came down the left channel..but just made it..agree kicking was poor.
Back 3 did well, particularly EEL and JOC.
Freeman got another assist..that must be 3 in 3 games, although not quite at his best today, did ok.
Bash had a good game today, just behind Moore and Done for MoM... Duffy had a decent first half for me.
Posh were worth a point to be fair...thought we gave possession away to many times, and they had a lot of the ball, but mainly long range chances.
Happy with the win though, enjoyed the game,we played well in patches..good to get a clean sheet, and we're going to get better as the season goes along for me.

Today is probably the first time in a few years where I wasn't worried that something bad would happen in the last 5 minutes.

I think the last time I felt that, when we weren't already; up, down or hopelessly mid table, was at Leicester.

Duffy had an effort curled wide before Maddison did likewise for Posh as the game became worryingly more open for the home side. Done kept plugging away and won possession twice just from sheer perspiration..

Persistence was probably the word you were looking for there :-)

Fantastic report as always DB, many thanks.

Player scores / comments bang on for me! Good report!

No I'll stick with perspiration!

Not too much has been said about Freeman but in the first half he got in two goalscoring positions and had two shots, put in two excellent crosses and got into other good crossing positions at least two or three times. He seems very comfortable at wing back.

Duffy was decent again. I think some people are expecting something different from him. Like in other games recently, he had a good first half, and a good game overall, but faded later into the second half. But if he can start games well on a regular basis I'll take that all day long even if he fades later, because he's an influential player and if he starts well, we're likely to get that key first goal more often than not.

Really good report as usual - bit harsh on Duffy for me though as I thought he did really well in first 20 mins of both halves - links play well and was at the heart of many of our more dangerous attacks..

Coutts and Basham were involved and the ball was played wide to Freeman again. His cross came over at pace and was converted clinically at the near post by DONE.

I wasn't there Deadbat, but just seen the goal and isn't it a deep cross field ball from Duffy, that Sharp does well to control, shield off the attentions of the defender, and slip it through to Freeman? I only point this out because both Duffy and Sharp have ratings to suggest they weren't involved in much of our play.

I thought Duffy was really poor today. was constantly facing his own goal, wouldn't face up and when passed to he quickly got rid of it without looking up. I thought he could have been replaced a lot earlier and probably would have been if lafferty hadn't been taken off. He didn't look well to be fair to him though, and just didn't look on it at all.

Probably right. I'd had 4 pints.

I can agree with the Duffy mark, a couple of times during the game sharp had to drop deep and link the midfield up, that's clearly duffys job, but, what about giving the lad time to settle into the team, him and landell were both good, and it's still early on, great result, so no probs.. Question, has he ever played for a club as big as us??

Give him time, he is getting better by the game..

The team are getting to grips with the Wilder Way. The more they do; the better it will get. Moore; EEL and Bash (mainly first half) outstanding but the attitude of the whole team was commendable and infectious. Great credit to Scoogs as a sub. No sulking; straight into it.

You know what's nice ? Wilder still thinks we're not at the performance level he wants/expects us to be at. Don't get me wrong, we're far from the finished article, let's not kid ourselves. Keep it up Blades, one game at a time.

Great report Deadbat , I pretty much agree with your assessment of the game.

Thought the defence did really well today backed up by the keeper, Moore, who for me was our MOTM. I thought the only worry was that they seemed to run through our midfield too often. Basham had a good game and got in some great tackles but thought Coutts was a weakness today and I've been a fan of his. He was ok on the ball but like you said faded badly. I expected Fleck to come on for him at some point and it was noticeable that every time the sub board went up, Coutts seemed to be expecting to see his number up. Should mention though that he made a great run into the box in the last 10 mins and thought he was finally going to score!

I liked the fact that Wilder is not scared to make big decisions, he saw that Lafferty was playing poor and took him off at half time. Think some are a bit harsh on Scougs and thought we looked much better 2nd half with him on. I don't agree that him 'being on the deck' is a problem, to me he is winning us freekicks, sometimes in dangerous areas such as the one he won v Oxford that led directly to the winning goal.

Thought our fans deserved a 9/10 today too - really got behind the team and with some prolonged chanting and singing. Not heard that for a while at home games.

Attention to detail / commitment as solid as ever DB. Bravo. And, I appreciqte it's all about opinions and when you put yourself out there with the thorough nature of what you say, your never gonna get all to agree.

But I must pick you up on your general observations (not just yesterday) of the role Sharp is playing. This, IMHO is down to the perception of what a lot of fans believe Sharps role should be against what he is actually being asked to do right now.

I thought he was excellent in the role of target man yesterday. He made the ball stick on numerous occasions., and his retention of the football was first class.

A great example of this was our goal. Have a look back at our goal, watch Sharps role in the build up to it and understand the importance of what he did to contribute. Something that hasn't been picked up by a lot of fans, but vitality important, I would suggest.

Like I say, all about opinions !!
