Danny Holla and Diego Poyet.

Wonder if we'll sign either - certainly could do with one of them to shore up the middle of the park.

Are we allowed to sign free agents at any time or is there a cut off for registering these too?

There's the Cameron Stewart link too wasn't there? I would expect we'll find out more today in Radio Sheffield's interview with Wilder.

Think we can sign them anytime.

There must be dozens of players sat on their hands this morning wondering if they will get a game in the next 4 months.

I think some will do a Poyet and free themselves up after they find someone to take them as soon as they do. It's a work around but can't see why they wouldn't be allowed to do it by mutual consent.

Clubs might not agree to cancel contracts if they think they can get a fee in January though.

I think they can be signed anytime but could be wrong.

Anyway, I doubt we will sign either. Only a few dodgy rumours about either one being of interest. The bloke from Sky (O'Rourke) re tweeted the rumour about Holla a couple of days ago but he has fallen for a few fake twitter accounts few recently.

Would love us to get one though so happy to be proven wrong.

Suspect poyet will have better options that us - would be surprised if a championship side didn't take a punt and will probably be charlton if l1 side takes a punt.

Don't know anything about holla if I'm honest

Had a quick look through, 2 that I'd like us to go for;
Reece Wabara - how is he still a free agent?
Junior Hoilett - wages could be an issue but lightening fast and has a few tricks

Would take Wabara on a short term deal and Diego Poyet could be a good signing, as could Danny Holla.

The most obvious one I think we should go for is Cameron Stewart - attacking right winger with pace, would definitely give us another option.

My pick from the list would be Kevin Nolan ex of Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham. Not just a big central midfielder but a goalscorer and motivator too. His wage expectations shouldn't be too high as he is effectively out of work. He would boss this league.

Nolan will be getting an England call-up very soon. Big Sam won't leave a player of his class out in the cold. ;)

I reckon there's a side you can put together from those free agents (for a reasonable amount of money - say needs to be less than a maximum of £5k a week) which would walk this division.

"Kevin Nolan... Welcome to Sheffield United. Firstly, how did the transfer come about?"

"Uh.. What? Uh... "

"KEVIN, WELCOME TO SHEFFIELD UNITED, IS THAT BETTER? THE TRANSFER......."

"Two sugars, no milk, gives me bad indigestion...."

You would think looking at the list and how long it is, that if Wilder really thought we needed another midfielder he would have the funds to attract someone .
Even as a lowly 3rd division club ?

"Luton, Welcome Back to Bramall Lane. Tell us, how does it feel?"

"Boasin Tone an' a blouse an' skirt, Bobo....Dat Mr. Warnock, he sure hada black heart, bu' now, all cook an' curry, all cook an' curry"

"Thanks Luton, over to you KC at the Media Station...."

Good call!
We need a good experienced central midfielder; he trained at our academy prior to our game with Fenerbahce so he knows what we can offer, only 32, plus he's always injured so perfect! ;)

he's a class act and ran rings around us in that friendly would love to see him at BDTBL

Apparently Dean Cox is now a free agent too. Still a good player in this league and one that we should have tried to sign a few seasons ago. Would certainly add some quality out wide

The trouble is I reckon most of the above have already got enough money to buy the club, let alone consider playing.

If we needed a wide player, Dean Cox has always been good, he seemed to stay at Orient due to his affiliation with the club. His ability deserves a higher level. Still only 29. Hoilett and NZogbia didn't ought to be without a club really.

It would be interesting to know why Sol Bamba ripped up his Leeds deal. He was captain at one point.

Poyet is the standout if we go for a midfielder. Thought he was very good in the cup tie vs Charlton if I recall. Don't know enough about Holla to comment.

All depends on Wilder's faith in Coutts in the middle and the likes of Scougall and possibly Brooks out wide. Perhaps he's seen enough from these guys. Only he really know how he wants the team to play.

I wonder how many of these embryonic suggestions will develop into full blown outrage from the usual suspects when Utd don't sign them. Dean Cox, who has plied his trade solely in the south, has recently returned to playing following 7 months out with a cruciate injury, plays in a position to which Utd have already recruited for this season, has played in L2 for the last 18 months and had a move lined up to Northampton on Weds before it fell through (with no interest from Utd) is the most obvious candidate.

Poyet, whose form has dropped off a cliff in the last 2 years and injured, ex-international, champions league winner and multi-millionaire Meireles are other personal favourites.
