The half time frolics continued. The concession area upstairs was flooded with beer, all good fun of course. The lady sitting next to me came back absolutely drenched. Someone swinging on the pipes. All the idiots being filmed on phones. Police standing round observing. And our Jack, aged 16 thinking it was all great fun and he can't wait to come home and join in. Sigh, I am obviously getting old.

Naughty little boys will be naughty little boys.

Revolution snr was just telling me about how bad the language was around him yesterday.

If they were doing that, that's obviously out of order.

Throwing beer around and filming things on phones?

To be expected at a football match and completely harmless. Don't like it, don't go.

Oh look he's having another 'trying to be contrary' moment ^^^^

Yawn.

Funny, I was a regular for in excess of 30 years and never threw beer around, never disrespected other people and never got in trouble. Language (assume my its not a family stand) I have no issue with, being a bit lairy I also have no issue with but why the hell should you go on a day out to watch football and "expect" to get beer thrown at you?

I'd suggest you have it the wrong way around. If you want to do that, go somewhere else.

Well, times have changed and if it's now the norm you have two choices;

Accept it and go
Don't accept it and don't go

What other choice do you have?

I've said before, as long as whatever it is is not illegal, I think you need to accept it may happen before going. And if you do so, I don't think you have any right to complain when it does but that's just my opinion.

It's like witnessing trouble on the other thread from not long ago, it's not illegal to witness trouble but it's a risk of going to a football match and it's frightening when it happens, especially when you've got kids. I accept that when I go so I don't go whinging about it when it happens, same with getting beer thrown around on the concourse.

Completely different if you are subject to the violence/other illegal action through no fault of your own. It goes without saying you shouldn't have to accept the risks of something illegal happening to you.

The things I witnessed and heard on numerous away matches last season didn't fall into the realm of illegality, but they would make any right-minded individual think "Wow, what a monumental set of fucking arsebirths, I'm somewhat ashamed to be associated with them".

But of course, since I don't chuck cheap lager or ketchup around or ask a female refs assistant if she takes it up the arse, it's me who shouldn't be there.....

The choice should be for the authorities to stamp it out rather than stand and watch. Why should you accept being drenched in lager/ketchup for wanting a half time snack/ piss?
Funny in it? A bloke gets charged and given a 3 year banning order for pouring vimto over a police inspector at the Grimsby match yet it's perfectly OK to do it on mass to innocent fellow blades if it's beer
It needs to be stamped out because it will only get worse.

Throwing beer at others is an affray and as such is an assault so it is illegal. As is swearing in a public place if you want to be picky about it.

Times have changed? No they haven't there was far more violence at the football when I started going. For a start you had to avoid someone pissing in your hood on the Kop or rival fans taking the Kop etc. I witnessed some real violence home and away, I just chose not to get involved. The difference now is if you try not to get involved some people think there is something wrong and you don't want to join the "fun".

What choice do I have? I contact the stewards and the police and make an official complaint. I contact the club and do the same. If enough people do this (and everyone should) then these wankers who have no respect for anything will get weeded out and banned.

In an ideal world, I agree. I suppose everybody has their own tolerance thresholds, personally I'm not one to get my knickers in a twist about beer on my clothes but I appreciate others will do and that's up to them.

We've all been daft when younger but you can see the annoyance of many blades S these young pricks way overstep the mark. It's not a bit of beer. It's being drenched. It's not just having a laugh, it's an intimidating atmosphere they create which is ridiculous when they supposedly support the same team as you. It's the zero respect. When it starts to become a regular thing it needs to be nipped in the bud before fellow blades snap and take matters into there own hands

Think that is the main difference between now and previously. If the kids get out of hand then the grown ups step in and put them in line. Doesn't appear to happen any longer.

Sounds like revolution senior got match day and the bridge club mixed up again .

Bless !

Back in the day, if I'd have chucked beer all over the people who stood around me at the back of the kop I'd have gone home in a Yorkshire ambulance.

I don't think the police were bothered about our fans throwing beer over each other, but one did say, if that pipe breaks I will have lock him up.

I don't mind a bit o' fun and merriment.
Let 'em have it their way for a while.
They're only kids, japesters, showing off...

But....

I also don't mind splitting lips, biting off ears, demolishing noses and extracting teeth.
That's how I roll baby, abuse me and those in my vicinity.

Deal?

Because back in my day we may have been daft but we did have some respect. The current young crop have none whatsoever
