I've spent the past 15 minutes investigating how the Blades have performed on the opening day of the season in an Olympic year.I can exclusively reveal that since 2004 we have won one (Shrewsbury 2012), lost one (Birmingham 2008) and drawn one (Burnley 2004). My conclusion: we will either win or lose tomorrow. If not, we will definitely draw.

Cracking work, thanks for the heads up!

I fully expect Silent Blade to come along very soon and fill in the years 1896 up to the present day, with scores, scorers, match reports, anecdotes and a brief resume of the political climate, not just here, but across the globe. That's fifteen minutes...
1968 - Beat Villa 3-1
1972 - won 2-1 at Birmingham
1976 - lost 2-0 at Luton
1980 - won 3-0 at Carlisle
1984 - cant remember (I was a part timer then)
1988 - won 3-1 at Reading
1992 - won 2-1 v Man U
1996 - lost 1-0 at Reading
2000- won 2-0 v Pompey

1960 - drew 1-1 at Norwich
1956 - think we won our 1st 7 games?

That is without me looking up!

I am delighted that the Olympics are starting at the same time as the football season. At least tv-land will have some entertaining sport on and I won't have to plumb the depths of The Worlds Biggest (and most corrupt) School Sports Day.

Apart from Jessica Santander® Ennis, Top Blade No.2, the other one who's a TV presenter or something called Charlie? & likes Mike Tyson, has gone on a publicity stunt/charity run/bike ride/walk - to Rio too.

I knew you'd all want to know, no idea how she got across the Atlantic, maybe she walked on it.

Finally some real in depth analysis of today's game. Those paid statisticians should sit up and take note of your excellent work. Can we expect this high level analysis for every game? I would be keen on your views on attendance of home league cup round one games in Olympic years. I don't know if you do requests though.

Trawled the history books for that - well done

To fill in the blanks since the war (with the help of the bible)

1948 - beat Blackpool 3-2
1952 - won 2-1 at Swansea
1956 - won 4-0 at Rotherham (we won first 5 games not 7 as I thought last night)
1964 - lost 2-0 at Spurs
1984 - drew 2-2 at Wolves

Couldn't agree more.
I shall not be tuning in.
