The lad in the 'Tracksuit from Matalan' didn't look 46 or capable of changing a fuse board, the kid wasn't even wired up properly himself!
Besides I saw him marauding past the arcades at the head of 'Town' boys about the time of the unprovoked attack, launching his own attack on Cleethorpes train station

I just heard he got a bit of a kick'in and even though Grimsby seems to be trapped in the 80s there can't be many of their 1500 fans with such crap dress sense.
If it was that particular scroat I just wanted to point out that while it might still be uncalled for it certainly wasn't unprovoked.

I have to admit a little concern that the focus for discussion has been on the subject of violence in connection with the Grimsby supporter wearing Matalan clothing. Myself I was more shocked to discover that the Grimsby time warp had progressed to the Matalan Age, believing as I did they were firmly rooted in the early 1960's. Please god it wasn't a shell suit !!.

I do hope common sense will prevail in the end - I mean, honestly, If you are going to a football match (which will no doubt involve struggling with the cold with little on the pitch to warm the spirit as I am sure is the case at Grimsby) you should wear the proper attire to avert total misery - this does not mean a Matalan tracksuit for goodness sake !!!.

Outfits should be warm and allow ready identification of which team you are supporting. I shall be writing to the club at Grimsby registering my concerns and recommending that they address this fashion idiocy that is in danger of spreading through their supporters in a swift and determined fashion.

I shall, of course, include this excellent photographic example (circa 1962) of suitable clothing for football matches (as modelled by myself - let no-one say I don't practice what I preach ). I am confident they should be readily available in all good quality charity shops or more likely as family heirlooms from when the town had a fishing industry. Rant over.

:D:D:D

Nowt wrong with Matalan! Only kidding its terrible I am strictly a George man myself

I will always remember hearing that for the first time away at Derby.
A big fat guy was there waving his hands about, threatening everyone. The away support rightly or wrongly burst into "who's the poofter in the pink" and "pink shirt from matalan". Seein the guy helplessly furious, seeing his mates around him having a chuckle and being a school kid at the time as well - I thought it was the greatest chant in the history of football songs.
