Looked good against us previously when he was at Crewe. Midfielder 29 better than basham. not a great goal tally but big and strong.

He is 29, never played in a successful team and is not going to get any better. I am not sure what 'pot' he goes in?

He's got great ability, and should be disappointed he's not had a better career. I would be excited if we signed him as we'd have two midfielders with great ability on the ball. He's never been a box to box player though and there has been criticism over his attitude in the past. Not sure if he's what Wilder is looking for.

Yes please , always liked him ,as a strong ball winning and passing midfielder.
Port Vale will be bottom 4 this season.

Wiki reckons he's only 5"10!!!!

Fuck that. I've seen him in the flesh and sure he's about 9 foot tall and 8 foot wide.

Big physical presence. Not too bad technically either but like Bergen says he doesn't get box to box. Kind of a more muscular version of Paul Coutts.

Not seen much of him but, your last sentence makes it a massive no from me Dane. I think 1 version of Paul the cunt Coutts is too much to bear. Can't wait till he's followed fuckin hammond out of the door lazy bastard

Is he deep-lying? If so, at what depth and why doesn't he dig himself out?

Does he sit? If so, upon what? Is it comfy? Would he consider standing up and joining in the game?

Is he holding? If so, holding what and wouldn't he be better putting it down? Surely whatever it is restricts his pace and mobility? Put the fucking thing down and play football, man.

He wouldn't cost much. He's in his prime. He knows this division and has performed well in it for at least two years. We'd be a step up for him, he'd have the hunger. It would be a smart signing.

We can't go past the deadline without signing another central midfielder.

Agree entirely with your final paragraph.

Basham is a nearly man. Not quite good enough at a lot of things...

Reed will continue his gradual fade into obscurity.

We can't begin to rely on James Wallace. I wish we could.

Doubts obviously persist about Coutts' fitness and commitment, if not his ability.

Recruitment essential.

I thought Grant looked decent whenever seen him. Another was the French bloke who played in midfield for Brentford I that bonkers 2-2 game. When I looked him up he's been jobbing around leagues one and two including with Rotherham but looked much better.

I think a solid, reliable midfielder is more of a priority than an attacking one who can score goals.

We have plenty of goalscorers up front, and if we sign Clarke we'll have one who'll be a regular starter as well as Sharp. Duffy can also score goals and hopefully we'll sign another winger who can. Fleck has the potential to score goals and we'll be looking to get more out of Basham too. We have DCL, Scougall and Duffy who can play in the number 10 area. So given the number of positions that still need strengthening, I don't think we should be considering an attacking midfielder.

Fleck's the only midfielder I feel we'll be able to rely on consistently. Basham isn't consistent enough or positionally good enough when it comes to the defensive side of the game nor is he great on the ball. He's a decent player but he needs competition for his position, and we need somebody strong and reliable who's a more natural midfielder.

Grant seems to tick the boxes for what we need. The Vale chairman has done a bit of a Flitcroft and said they've received bids that "wouldn't fuel my car for a year". Northampton are apparently after him, no surprise given that Page managed him at Vale. Surely we could easily get him. It's the sort of signing that might only be for one season but 150-200k would probably be worth paying, just as with Clarke.

He's one of them players who always seems to play well against us and makes me ask: 'how is he still there'. He's either shit except against us, or a good player at this level. He has a lot of qualitie that we lack: height, presence, mobility. A very poor man's Pogba, with long arms and legs.

He's extremely popular with the Vale fans, they applauded him in a recent friendly despite the transfer request. That surely says a lot. Also their player of the season. So he must play like he has against us on a regular basis.

Agree, if he's the answer we don't understand the question. Our midfield yesterday were 100% better than Vale's inclusive of Grant. He looked slow, overweight and distinctively lacking in technical ability.

Saturday was the first time I have really taken any notice of him, due to threads like this one.

Personally I thought he was terrible and was one of Port Vale's worst players. I'd read on here that he was a big physical player but that can't have been further from the truth. He looked like one of the shortest players on the pitch.

Also, take a look at his 'attempt' to stop Duffy's cross for Done's first disallowed goal. He might as well have not been there.

I'll give you saturday he was shit, but generally speaking he's a good player and normally plays well against us. One swallow doesn't a summer make n all that.

Don't think we're paticularly light in midfield anymore either, we have Basham and then Brown and Whiteman.
