Really looking forward to this season. We've got rid of a lot of the old payroll hangers on, bought in some new blood under a manager who want effort and I can really see things working out for us. There are so many "glass half empty" types on here i thought I would pass on my feelings, anyone else agree?
Oh, by the way, much beer and red wine has been consumed today.

Agreed. Bottom line, I'll be delighted to see us press teams and compete off the ball. First time we'll have done that in years.

Moan when it's crap, enjoy it when it's looking promising, it's the realist way I guess. Pre-season is one of the few times when you can do the latter, without the results spoiling things.

Yes it seems like we are going to revert back to the only thing we can do

Effort, grit, determination and attitude.

Nothing wrong with those attributes but where Sheffield United are concerned they'really usually a cheaper option to replace skill, technique and ability

Agreed, and Wilder has it in Spades, from the manager down I think it will be enough

Upwards from the manager has not been enough, not for the last 10 years anyhoo

If McCabe can save himself £500,000 by selling one, he will risk it all, Hyenas, spots and all that

Agree with all of this but with the same captain steering the ship I'll need a bit more before I go all moist on the season.

Same posts get posted every year.

Optimistic, this is the year, this is it.

Then...it ends in tears.

Don't set yourself up for another mighty fall. That fall gets larger every season.

Expect nothing, and anything above that is a bonus. You don't end up as dissapointed and you're usually accurate.

'm sure you're a nice bloke really.

Nope.

I'm a right miserable old git.

Not sure whether to kick the cat or slap the missuss first tonight.

I could slap the missus with the cat I suppose........

But surely you've got to enjoy the enjoyable bits, deriving a little bit of pleasure from it when you can? Otherwise why on earth would you spend money on what is essentially an expensive hobby, or spend all your free time moaning about it on the Internet? Seems bonkers to me.

Enjoy it when you can.

Otherwise why on earth would you spend money

He doesn't.

He 'sold' his season ticket last year if you recall.

His only Blades cost is a few kw of electric to come on here and piss the rest of us off.

Not getting carried aaway, I'll personally be happy with top 6 this season under the new gaffer, and then if we don't go up we should be at least be able to get shut of any hangers on and from the Clough era and press on for automatic the season after.

So I'll go for the mildly optimistic, enjoy it when you can, approach rather than Barney's "I am a rock and a rock can feel no pain" approach

I am really looking forward to the new season also, but no one should not form an opinion on someone or something based purely on what is seen on the surface, because after taking a deeper look, the person or thing may be very different than what was expected. Go no further than last season everyone was raving about our new manager who came with some success and achieved nothing for us except misery, I feel most Blades fans feel that the glass is only half full due the long period we have been in this league, for some they will never bellieve until the last kick of the season. No matter what happens it can not be as bad as last season, so for all the Blade fans with glasses full, im praying you are correct and we walk away with the league, for all half full Blade fans, big breaths and keep your fingers crossed. Im the latter of the two I like the rollor coaster ride, its more fun.

True, I won't believe we're promoted until the end of the season when it's confirmed. Even if we were mathematically certain I'd have it in the back of my mind that we'll have made some kind of cock up that will result in us having points deducted.

I really have no idea what this season will bring. Best guess, as it stands, in and around the play-offs but impossible to know until we've kicked off.
