Not a great deal to update on tbh: http://bbc.in/29IWCVk

We were in for McFadzean, did all we could, he wanted to join, MK Dons simply didn't want to sell to us.

Still after a centre-back and a target man – two to be likely added before the Grimsby game.

Players have shown "great attichude", including those listed. Some worrying early comments too that seem designed to warm us up to a few of the listed players remaining with us.

Wouldn't get too worried yet. It does no favours to sulk and drag your heels if you've been told to look for a new club. It's in their best interests to work hard and get fit.

Depends how it is spun by fans if a player hasn't shifted by the end of the window. Could be viewed, as you say, as Wilder being short on players and resigning to keeping them. Could also be viewed as not being able to shift them because their deals here are too sweet and they won't move.

Take your common sense elsewhere
It's not welcome here ;)

Wallace and Freeman could be really good players in the right environment, not just for now but for years to come. I say that but at the same time wonder a bit about Freeman's attitude. Wilder will have him sussed by now. Looking at the photos from La Manga the lad looks heavy and not quite 'onside', albeit slim information I admit. Anybody at La Manga watch him closely? I asked Bladetoolong but he generalised. Hope he doesn't waste his career through attitude.

As for Coutts I suspect Wilder is watching him and thinking how bloody good a technical player he is but also thinking 'he's from another era'. He has to go, but where? Come on Cloughie, we'll help you with some of his wages.

Agree completely with everything said, although which Wallace are you referring to?

If only I could say James but I'm afraid things look bleak for his career.

He grew up with Jose on the same street and dreamed of what could be in the future. Both of them have nowhere near realised their potential but for such different reasons.

At least James will be able to reflect on the cruelty of fate and cards dealt and all that.

Jose will wake up one day and never forgive himself for what could have been.

Didn't he say after the stocksbridge game that none of the players have managed to change his mind yet?

No, mate. He said "some" in a way that suggested others were giving him food for thought. Who have we still got that is transfer listed? I've lost track...

I too hope that blade too long doesnt waste his career through attitude. Don't know what you do, mate, but don't throw it away....

I suspect Bladetoolong is reaping the rewards of his career long gone, much like me Pinchy and you too I hope.

Seriously though, Freeman has ability and looks like he's one of those who won't know what he had until he's lost it, like Baxter.

P.S. That sentence was in a different part of the post when I pressed 'Post Reply' I'm sure it was!! Bladetoolong's attitude has always been exemplary, of course it has:).

Thought K Wallace showed some promise at left back last season, though suspect he would be better left side mid or left wing back, where he doesn't have to rely too much on defence. As for Freeman he had the odd good game but some of his defensive work at times was awful. To be a good defender you have to bang out consistent good defensive work week-on-week, Freeman's never going to do that imo. Wilder knows this, Wilder will get shut of Freeman I reckon.

Can you listen to me.
Freeman is a complete waste of of a shirt

Freeman, Wallace 1 and Wallace 2, Coutts and Woolford by my reckoning.

Freeman showed glimpses of quality but looks to have a shite attitude, he was struggling to get into Pompys team last season.

Feel sorry for K Wallace as I watched him during his spell at LB last season and thought he got forward really well, not a first team player yet but I thought worthy of more time.

J Wallace, made of Glass need to be shut, shame and dying think there was any thing wrong with his attitude just never going to play 40 odd games a season.

Coutts, good player but shit attitude and goes missing for large parts of the game. Really hope he doesn't get back on the team.

Woodford - Gash

I find it odd people can comment on the attitudes of players when they have no idea what their attitude is like in reality.
Coutts might have not been one to chuck his body in there, track runners and run all day, but doesn't mean his attitude stinks. Many midfield players are like that, may just be that he's not as fit as he needs to be due to missing the last 2 pre seasons, and is more of a forward player.
What Coutts is, is one of the best players we have at keeping the ball. He's quicker than he looks and strong, while also being intelligent.
He's not been able to run the show, smash goals in from all over and track back to make last ditch tackles, but if he gets a full pre season, and a run of games we might just see the player he is fully capable of being. I've seen glimpses of absolute quality in him.

If Wilder has mentioned his superb attitude and work ethic, then surely we should believe him?

He had a full pre-season last season and was fit for most of the season?

People must not have listened to that interview in full. He must say for 2 minutes he's trying to get rid of all the players listed. He says some have good attitude but he still wants them to go.

Onto the positive sign he said bids are in for players and he mentions a target man and centre half. Without me getting 2 + 2 wrong. Seems we may well be in for Clarke and another bid for a defender.

Begin the rumours of right sided centre halves.

Won't it be Kilgallon ?

Left sided centre half, we need a right sided centre half.

He says we have bids out on players which to me sounds like a transfer fee. May be wrong on that front. But if we are indeed after Clarke and was after Mcfadzean there is still some money to spend.

Clarke would be a good signing And I reckon he's defo one we got bid in for - haven't got a clue who the centre half is.

Wilder said "we did everything we could do as a football club to seal the transfer of McFadzean but MKD didn't want him to come to us".

Clough timed his move well on this occasion and he's just signed another centre half ( from Ross county); both deals broke the club transfer record and for defenders -lessons learned. If Clough had not clinched it McFadzean could be with us by now.

That's life.

Seriously?

There are so many points in your post that I disagree with, and I feel I'd banging the same old drum, so I'll keep it short:

Coutts is gash. He doesn't score goals, has a poor assist record, doesn't chase, doesn't tackle and doesn't mark. I'll admit that he has a good passing range and decent control, but as I've said, that's the bare minimum of a professional footballer, and shouldn't excuse his (many) deficiencies elsewhere.

And as for:

"He's not been able to run the show, smash goals in from all over ... but if he gets a full pre season, and a run of games we might just see the player he is fully capable of being"

Since Courts arrived in England in 2008, he's scored 6 goals in more than 225 appearances. I rest my case.

Coutts might have not been one to chuck his body in there, track runners and run all day, but doesn't mean his attitude stinks.

I'd give you that if his static performances allowed him to excel in other ways. But he doesn't excel in any way at all.

He's a young bloke with genuine talent who could contribute much more. So therefore either his body has failed him or his attitude is wrong. My judgement is that it's probably both.

from his interview it is clear that all players are still on transfer list but Coutts and Freeman have impressed him with their attitude so far.

IMO Coutts will be found out as soon as we actually play a decent side as he cant run, can't fight and lacks desire (no matter how much quality he has)

Freeman is decent back up for either fullback position.

I also got the impression the other listed players are on good deals and are reluctant to move on for less money elsewhere.

You don't know how different players will ay in a certain style and formation under a different manager. Of course Wilder has to look at he players and if they step up to what he requires and there are no similar players on the market then he surely has to give them a try. Wallaces ,Freeman and Coutts all have certain abilities which they can bring to the team if style and attitude come with it ,just don't expect certain things from certain players. Don't forget there were stories of bust ups with Adkins last year ,a manager who had clearly lost his way ,Sheffielder adhered to a bust up with Coutts while he was playing ,a good manager will....manage and get the best out of players and the best of all 4 of those players is pretty decent and easily good enough for this division. If Wilder can get this along with the new signings we should have a strong side this season. A keeper and a target man would be targets for me ,and maybe another centre half ,then just replace players as they leave.
