Whilst walking in the Peak District my mind turned to the best all-time Sheffield born Blades eleven (don't know why!). I'm not so knowledgeable pre 80s so there may be a couple of big names I have missed out. I put Kyle Walker on the left to allow Badger to be on the right. I cheated with Harry Johnson, I couldn't think of anyone else so checked Wikipedia!
The team is:
Long, Badger, Maguire, Stancliffe, Tiler, Walker, Woodward, Whitehouse, Chris Marsden, Sharp, Harry Johnson.

Are we allowing Loans? If so I'd stick Cahill in for Maguire.

I thought Maguire was from't tarn?

Nope, apparently I've made that up.
He is from sheffield. Maybe I just assumed he was from Barnsley because he grew up a pig.
Is that true or just a rumour. The way he floated at Wednesday fans after the Wembley match means I am prepared to forgive him!

If the Liverpool fans can forgive Carragher I can forgive our Harry.

What about Graham Shaw who won 5 England caps? Jack Pickering who played for us from 1925 to 1948, won an England Cap in 1933. Bill Brelsford from the 1915 FA Cup winning team, Rab Howell who played for England, Jack Smith was born in Stocksbridge and was a good keeper

I had no idea Carl Tiler was from Sheffield.
His dad Ken Tiler is Sheffield born, played for Chesterfield, Brighton and Rotherham

Was Woody born in Sheffield? And don't think he was a Blade as lad, could be wrong mind. Stan, Maguire and Marsden were all Wednesday fans as lads so I believe. Sheffield born United fans that haven't been mentioned yet - Bradders, Mitch Ward, Jamie Hoyland, Chris Wilder, 'Super' Jack Lester, 'Queenie' Thompson and Kyle Naughton. Stainrod was another from Sheffield although on the dark side as a lad.

Wasn't Carl Tiler from just over the border, Aston, Anston, Kiveton or somewhere around there?

I remember us signing Tiler from the Premier League which is perhaps why I didn't realise he was from around here.

My chief memory of him (and correct me if I'm wrong!) is that he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Stoke which I think was shown on Sky. Mostly what I remember of that match though is that Naseem Hamed was introduced to the crowd at half time and that there was a streaker, as shown on this video:

11.40 minutes in.

Woodward was born in Chapeltown, I think.

Went to school with mitch ward,he is from lane top and a lifelong blade, funnily enough he was good friends with jon newsome

Probably right that it was Chap, think United picked him up from Don & Dearne, which probably had me thinking he wasn't Sheffield born.
Lived in Silkstone area, played for Barnsley Boys that won the schoolboys shield in 1961 (Jimmy Greenhoff was in the same team). He was a Wendy fan. Wendy and Blades were fighting to sign him. He didnt like Vic Buckingham (Wendy's manager in 1962) and preferred John Harris

He was indeed born in Chapeltown, The Hallamshire Maternity Home.
Just like Bert.

Stainrod went to Ecclesfield Comprehensive School. Bert remembers him there.

Stainrod was a Grenoside lad (hence Ecclesfield Comp). Once nicked our ball when we were playing football in front of our houses and started showing off, bragging that he played for United (was on the youth books at the time) but we didn't believe him. Still a pig fan though.

Jeff Eckhardt was from Sheffield, pretty sure he went to Newfield School at Norton Lees.

Lived across the road from me in Thorpe, nice bloke, bit quiet, didn't see too much of him but always had time to say hello when we saw him. Recently moved away but not sure where to.
