Can someone clear something up, I've not read anything on it yet, do we have to offer the same or more to get compensation?
The same terms is the minimum if we're to get compensation.

There are set prices in place for academy grown players of a certain age with appearances under their belt.
So he was initially offered more then it was reduced?
No wonder the kid's pissed off.
Long should be glad of the opportunity to start next season as first choice. Not sure Wilder has given him that much encouragement and maybe wants his Npton keeper or a.n.other lad from L1/L2.
In Long's situation he will know Wilder has a view on him, if not first hand then through his Blades contacts. Everybody knows Long has his faults and maybe his whole career depends on how he matures from hereon in. All that's in the lap of the gods or at least in Long's head - can he develop his game to dominate the six yard box and even to the penalty spot for crosses? He's nowhere near as yet, but he's young.
Would you start a promotion season with Long in goal? 50/50 perhaps. Nobody, not even Long is totally sure, but he needs to improve this side of Xmas. That's why he's offered less on his wages.
Such as Adams will be taking nothing for granted on their next contracts, that's for sure, not without a big contribution now, not just on potential, if it's there at all.
I doubr its reduced. We wouldn't be getting compensation if so.
Dictated to? Yes. Hes had the offer of a contract since before the end of the season. Hes now stalled signing on 2 occasions. He has chosen to look elsewere as hes entitled to do so. So for me. Thats sufc being dictated to by long and his agent.
Whilst Long is a slowly improving young keeper, I'd be amazed if he's worth more than £100k. There's only so long you can pay a professional footballer's contract before that's swallowed up.

In this situation there is a 'tipping point'. It's OK Wilder acting the tough guy but it all relates to each player in their own circumstances as they are at this point in time.
For example, Hammond is winning all the way to the bank but probably wants to play football for a year or two more, so it's all a negotiating game. Such as Coutts, Ryce, Woolford need to make their minds up how much they want to play football this next 12 months but they could sit on their contracts and screw United just to get them off our training field.. Diego is in a different position as are Freeman and K.Wallace. We all feel for J.Wallace and his loss is ours too, proper footballer that lad.
Any manager can act the big guy when he gets appointed, it's how it all falls into place after the fallout that matters. I sense Wilder would not be too unhappy to start next season with a totally new squad. Let's face it, those he has retained are not without their big, big question marks, especially McNulty, Adams, Scougall, maybe Long, Done, Basham (IMO), Brayford etc. I'd keep Freeman and K.Wallace in front of a few of them any day, but in a situation like this there are unfair winners and losers, that's how it is.
When the squad turn up for the first pre-season friendly, one thing is for sure, not many will be totally sure of their future at this club. This is a make or break period on our history. Is this new manager, the man the local media call "unsophisticated", the new Messiah? He needs to be, more than ever he needs to be, that's for sure.
There was no slugging it out. Kelly was the undisputed number 1 whilst he was at United.
I'd keep the contract offer there to retain the possibility of compensation, but I'd start looking for a new keeper in any case.
The mere fact that he's had to take this long to decide if he wants to be at the club or not would be enough to bin him for me.
It's not like he has the ability to warrant wasting time over.
Whispered, very hushed, in and around Ibrox.
Rangers are looking at three L1 goalkeepers to compete with Wes Fotheringham
for the no.1 jersey.
Bentley / Southend United
Long / Sheffield United
Smith / Northampton Town
Think the one they want is Bentley, who i've not really taken much interest in.
Anybody on here rate him above Long/Smith?
Whispered....
If Long goes to Scotland, doesn’t that lose or reduce the compensation we’d be entitled to?
The rules keep changing but it was certainly the case that compensation was greatly reduced if a player went 'abroad' which included Scotland. I recall another player threatening to go to Scotland during a contract dispute but I can't remember who now.Bentley had a very good season in 2014-15 as Southend got promoted and attracted interest from higher placed clubs (was being linked with Prem moves I think). Has made one or two howlers this just gone season but still has a decent reputation. He’s a big lad as well.

He had a blinder against Rangers in the playoffs for Motherwell…..
The Google bit is easy. It's making sense of what you find that's the problem. No idea Chief.
That'll be a question to be answered by someone more knowledgeable about transfer dealings*.
*Which basically means we are both too lazy to google it![]()

Actually, I'm talking crap. That's why I wait patiently for an expert on the subject.
I'm still trying to make sense of how to tie my laces*
*Just realised, they're slip-ons!

It's quite easy.
Not long ago that everyone was shouting from the rooftops that he must be in the team....remember it vividly.
I don’t think he was initially brought in as number 1. I think he was signed to cover for Tracey when he was injured but his Wembley heroics against the pigs made it damn near impossible for Tracey to get the shirt back for quite a while.
Kelly was dropped for a while over a contract dispute and Tracey got the shirt back for a while (though Kelly’s version of events is a little different). Kelly was broadly speaking the number 1 but had fierce competition and at worst excellent cover in Tracey.
Two great keepers in their own ways but I have to say I preferred Tracey myself ........ I always thought that Kelly was a bit susceptible to conceding too many from long range shots .... possibly why his international career stalled ?

Well, we came within a whisker of promotion with Steve Simmonsen in goal and I’m confident in saying Long is better than him.

George should have been tied up six months ago but our dithering attempts to cover all eventualities has bitten us on the arse again.
That and English players tend to be like Wards; don't travel well.I remember Tom Ince being linked with Inter at one point meaning Blackpool would have got next to nothing for him.
To be honest, given that loophole, you’d think loads of Serie B, Ligue 2 etc. teams would be looking at young players at the end of their contracts in England. People like Bentley and Payne in Southend, Sawyers at Wallsall etc. Probably better young players out of contract in the championship too.
I’m surprised foreign teams don’t tap into that market more. Maybe it’s because of the wage demands of English players compared to others around the continent.

Two year deal to be signed when he returns from his holiday. Hopefully doesn't stop us signing a new number one.
Its probably a good thing so that the budget can now be spent on positions we desperately need as opposed to a goalkeeper, where we now have George who hopefully will continue to improve.
