Ha-ha, good one, he's bang average.
He must have been offered at least
2% increase otherwise we couldn't
get compo if he moves on.He won't get 1st team football if he moves to prem, he's best served staying with us or is he fearfull of the competition he will get from Ramsdale, who is a great prospect.

How many times, we have to have offered him improved terms or we won't get any compo.

If he's not willing to fight to become first choice he isn't good enough. He surely can't expect to be the unquestionable number one after the season we've just had?

Yeah, I would say he was our runner up in terms of player of the year. And yeah I would say he did well, and is much improved - but I'm expecting us to be a million miles better than that this season so if George isn't willing to get on board, cya later George. Best of luck but we move onto pastures new. The world still keeps turning on it's axis.

I hope he stays cos he's one of us, he's a very experienced lad for his age and has showed marked signs of improvement which will only get better. But if he doesn't want to fight to be number one that's up to him, go and warm someone's bench George because no one above us is going to make you their number 1 pal, not without a fight. You are in a specialized position, that's how it works.

I'd be disappointed to see him go because I think he has the makings of a very good goalkeeper who I suspect will go on to have a good career at Championship level at least, if not higher.

He's not the finished article by a long shot, and if he is to stay then I'd want us to sign a good back up/competitor for his position because I'm not totally convinced he's good enough for first choice at the moment.

What we absolutely shouldn't do is withdraw the offer and thus forego any compensation for him if he is to leave.

Please stop the 'one of us' nonsense. It's meaningless parochial bollocks. It doesn't add one iota to his 'ability' or gain us a single point,

It may be, of course, that you too belong to the National Association of Dodgy Inadequate Keepers [NADIK], in which case your remark is appropriate and accurate.

He's very average, not at all bothered if he goes.

He managed to "survive" last Season, but he didn't seem to make a difference to many games

Certainly has a weakness with long range shots

And thinking back to Rochdale away, I think they had 4 or 5 decent chances and he didn't get in the way of them

Worth keeping, another youngster up and comming, so we need an experienced 27 - 28 year old for when George "needs a rest"

If I knew one person would pick up on that, you're the one.
It's like putting maggots on a line, and casting into a pond.

Carry on stalling Longy and I'll be cutting and pasting my post from the Tafazolli thread :)

To be fair to George, we don't know what the contract he has been offered is and what the problem is. Maybe he's been offered reduced terms and its just been offered so that we get compensation if he leaves. Or maybe he doesn't want to stay if he knows that Smith is coming or someone else. Personally I think we can do better than Long but if he goes I wish him well.
See post #14

To say Long is one of us I've never really seen the sort of urgency and passion you'd expect. I also think he has the wrong standards for what's acceptable at this club, he's one of those players who has talked about 'top 6' like it's an achievement and he's been part of the culture of failure for quite a while now. Then there was that pathetic interview towards the end of last season about keeping this squad together. I know you can't always read into interviews too much but nothing convinces you he has the right mentality to be a big part of our club going forward.

He certainly seems to have responded to Adkins arm around the shoulder approach.
Maybe he now feels a little uneasy about a Wilder who has a more blunt approach.

It is pretty obvious he isn't happy with the offer made to him.
The club have invested heavily in him over the years and he has gradually learnt and improved, but there's no guarantee that will continue into the future. He is still young and as a keeper, if good enough, can have a lengthy career ahead of himself; far more so than an outfield player.
As fans we all want to see local young lads coming through the youth teams to the first team.
We want them to apply themselves, and make it as far as they can.

A lack of self confidence isn't something you find in a top keeper.
What I find troubling if he is already chasing the £££s, does it show he has so little faith in his own ability to go much further?
Either way I hope Wilder sticks to his deadlines and resolves this quickly and doesn't do a flip-flop Clough/Maguire procrastination..

He must be offered a rise. He is probably on about £500-£1000 a week at the minute. When did he sign his last contract 2/3 years ago when he was a backup goalkeeper

How many more times the contract has to be improved terms or the player can go for free, we will have a improved offer on the table to make sure we get compensation should he go elsewhere

Never heard this? Can you find me an article mate? Soi if a club doesn't offer an improvement to a players contract then he can go for free without the need for a tribunal then (if under 24). I did look albeit briefly but couldn't find any info?

1, he's not good enough
2, if Blades fans knew what his demands were they wouldn't be sticking up for him
3, he's shit it now with playing for us, see ya

http://fullcontactlaw.co.uk/2014/05/compensation-players-24-mystery/

Rule 64.3 Subject to the provisions of this Regulation 64, any Club which makes an offer in accordance with Regulation 64.2 of re engagement to a Contract Player who is an Under 24 Player and which is in the opinion of the Board not less favourable than the Player's current contractual terms, shall be entitled to a Compensation Fee in respect of the loss of the Player's registration, should the Player sign for another Club. In order to comply with this Regulation, the annual value of the terms offered must be at least equivalent to the most favourable year's terms in the Player's previous contract. The terms offered to Players for re engagements must be as favourable overall except that a signing on fee included in the previous contract and stated to be a once only payment need not be repeated. Copies of all offers of re engagement made to Contract Players must be sent to The League.

Can't be annoyed about this without knowing what his hesitation is.

If he's not guaranteed first team football then he has a genuinely tough decision to make as to whether someone a step up might gamble on him as a backup 'keeper on a better offer, or if someone a step down would have him as number one. Maybe we've offered him significantly less than he was expecting. It's all speculation and it taking time isn't necessarily a poor reflection on anyone. Wilder said he hadn't even met with him till this week.

Either way I'd want us to be bringing in better, so this doesn't seem like a big deal.

I've no idea how hard he trains, you just added that one in, I doubt you do either.

He's done ok, but no more than that.
He's improved since the season before, but he needed to, he was terrible.

He's a decent shot stopper, still struggles with long range shots, still unable to command the 6 yard area, still makes basic errors.

If I'd played in the awful teams of the last couple of seasons I could probably have won Player of the Year too.

I've no idea how hard he trains, you just added that one in, I doubt you do either. Not just added in PB. The training comment was in reference to how he applies himself. Your doubts, though an understandably hopeful cast, are just that.

He's improved since the season before, but he needed to, he was terrible. So he has improved. Which was my point that he has a right to consider against a reduced salary.

He's a decent shot stopper, still struggles with long range shots, still unable to command the 6 yard area, still makes basic errors. I'm not a fan of the modern day 'palm it away' keeping. Percentages say it will fall to attackers feet too often to be the correct choice for me. What's wrong with trying to catch it?! And yes, I'd love him to bellow at his defenders more. Hopefully that will come as he matures.

If I'd played in the awful teams of the last couple of seasons I could probably have won Player of the Year too. Pick your position mate! I've never seen you play but if it were up to me I'd put youin ahead of most of last season's bunch!!

My main point was that George has every right to get the best deal he can, especially if the offer is to decrease his deal.
I understand the tough guy approach from CW, but I think we should retain George on at leas the same deal, and the fact that he hasn't been told to do one what would suggest that CW rates him enough to try and keep him too.

Why wouldn't you have an advisor when you're 22?

Think I'd be MORE inclined to have an advisor at that age. Our board, just like any other board, will try and lift a players leg if they can get away with it. You'd need an advisor to wade through the contract.
