You're just going about your business when you look up and your hero is in front of you. For me, I was walking down Limb Valley when I walked past Blades supersub Steve Charles. I was too stunned to say anything.

I saw my all-time United hero Dane Whitehouse in the car park before the Millwall match. Stood 6 feet away and was too shy to say anything.

Next time.........next time.

Once saw Kevin McDonald on a night out in Barnsley.

I went up to him and said, "Are you Kevin McDonald?". He said, "No" and then walked off.
Did he attempt to disguise his Scottish accent?

I have seen Dane a few times on matchdays around the ground. He is normally with a big group though so I never try to speak to him.

In the past I have spoken to a few in including Del Geary, Henderson and Tongue.

Most recently I spoke to Mark Howard in Waitrose. Nice lad.

I actually had a nice chat with Tony Agana once, thoroughly decent bloke. Good laugh as well.

I bumped into half the 1997 team on holiday in Norway, they were walking towards the ground for a friendly from the coach, and I stopped the car to let them over the street. David White, Vas, G Stuart and beside him , Paul McGrath ,I pulled down the window and asked, have you signed for us, he smiled and nodded. We also had a big goallie on trial in the game (0-0 vs Odd Grenland), previously with Chelsea(forgot his name) Last to cross was Katchuro. All in smart black tracksuits that probably would look very dated today. 1997 squad listed with qualityplayers.

Just last week I shared a check-in queue with Ian Bennett at the JFK Airport on my return journey home.

I thought about saying hello, but he was wearing a Notts Forest backpack as his hand luggage. Embarrassing.

Bumped into Len Badger in a pub in Chesterfield years ago, me uncle knew him and said i were a Blade, i uttered under my shy breath summat along the lines of "tha were a great player Len".... Modestly Len replied, "Tha must be pissed"... well i was, but i were right all the same!

I'm impressed, you should always be proud to have played at that level. I bet you're the only one on the forum to have played in Europe (unless you include on the beach in Spain!)
Irish league football is a reasonable standard bearing in mind the players are semi professional. Some of the more successful players in recent years to make a breakthrough in England have included Gareth mcauley (west brom) and Stuart Dallas (dirty Leeds). I also had the pleasure of playing alongside Glen Little for 2seasons before he joined burnley. Shame he was at the end of his career when he arrived at the lane.

Deep in the heart of Derwent Valley, I was recording some geological finds for the University.

About thirty minutes into the work, a gang, riding mountain bikes raced past.
Strange to see about twenty five all together, dressed the same almost.
Some faster than others.

First team squad, pre-season bonding session, mid/end of July 2009.
