Ricky Holmes, looks promising but we are still to meet their valuation, also there is another league one club in the frame

George long, we have offered him a slightly better deal but can't offer him first team, that's the stalling point not money

Adam smith a done deal hence longs reluctance to sign

Baptise, wilder won't meet his wage demands

Kevin long, again wages so looking at a loan but burnley want to sell as he's been on loan a lot

Tafazoli, there was definite interest but silly wage demands

All sound entirely plausible, Holmes would be a good signing, as would Long, Baptiste was always going to be miles too expensive and I've a feeling Tafazolli is over rated and would sooner have Pierre from Wycombe.

It's both heartening but worrying that wages seem to be an issue.

Good in that we aren't being bent over by agents but also we don't wanna miss out of players who could really make a difference. Suppose it means getting the likes of Hammond and coutts off the wage bill a priority.

Baptise always unlikely but would have been a real statement of intent.

Can't say I know too much about the other defenders but getting a good pairing is key because we've been well short at the back for a long long time and it's costing us a significant number of points.

All sound entirely plausible, Holmes would be a good signing, as would Long, Baptiste was always going to be miles too expensive and I've a feeling Tafazolli is over rated and would sooner have Pierre from Wycombe.

Pierre has another year left and Wycombe wanted £350k in January.

I think all of that is believable bar Baptiste, who I don't feel based on what Wilder said yesterday was on the radar (though I've no doubt Adkins would have tried to bring him in, so perhaps it's only recently our interest cooled). Wilder didn't have to say that he wouldn't be looking at any experienced Championship or Premier League players, but he did and made it quite clear that he feels the transition downwards to League 1 is too much for most. He genuinely seemed surprised at the suggestion of Baptiste when it came up, which would be understandable given he is exactly the type of player it seems we'll be avoiding (regardless of how he did last season).

As for George Long, if the decision he needs to make is being on our bench or being better paid to be on someone else's bench it's a fairly easy one for him to make I'd have thought.

I know absolutely nothing about kevin long but looking at where he's been on loan I can't see why Burnley would price themselves out of a sale- plus the lads 25, does he want to stay a journeyman into his 30s!?
I'd love to get that Ricky Holmes and I believe we will.
