What positions need filling and should fill them?

Theres a few signings out there that I think are plausible and would improve our squad.

The positions I see as key are..... Centre Back, Right wing, Left wing and Centre midfield.

The signing of Speed has made the CM spot less important as we have Hendrie coming back to full fitness too.

For the Centre Back spot, I wouldn't mind snapping up James Collins of the Spammers. I think we could get him for around 500k. He has been unlucky with injuries and with other quality defenders being brought in to WHU. He would be a great aquisition too.

Right wing.... well its hard to think who would be available to be honest, and after much thought I came up with the perfect name in PAUL IFILL. Now I wasn't his biggest fan, and was often very critical of him, but he helped us no end to promotion previously and it seems he isn't that favoured by Warnock either. I think a cheeky 500k bid again will bring him in.

Left wing... Ex-pig Chris Brunt. I don't think things have worked out as he planned when he moved to WBA. He is now a bit part player, when he has the potential to be a lot more. I think a bid of £1.5 million could get him here.

Finally the Centre Midfield, a lot has been made of this position, but I believe with Speed and Hendrie being there we now only need a back up CM, with this in mind who better than David Norris? It seems it will take around £1.5 million again to prize him away, but this lad can cover CM and RM, a very good player and very good back up.

Right wing - Mark Yeates.

Oh, and Paul Ifill (I was a fan, by the way) looked like a big fat mess when he came on.

Ipswich have had a £1.5mil bid turned down with Sturrock quoted as saying it is nowhere near the "outragous" and "incredible" bid it would take for them to sell him.

Is it £1.5 million that was turned down?

thought it had been quoted as £1 million, I must have mis-read.

Some places are saying "7 figure", some have quoted £1.5mil.... either way, I don't think an extra £500k is gonna convince Mr Sturrock :)

It's an extra 50% however you look at it.....

But even if we have to pay £2 million, it would still be a good signing.

It is, but its hardly outrageous or incredible, especially to a club who have already made money from sales.

Very true, but an extra 500k is a 3rd of how much they made from their exciting prospect of Gosling. The total £1.5 million is what they sold him on for.

£1.5 million is a lot to any team in this league, especially a team who has an average attendance of around 13,000 (I think)

I know they're pushing for the play offs, but realisticly, with Sturrock in charge, they're WANK ;)

Quality, just spat half of my lunch all over my desk in a fit of laughter.

I haven't seen much of Norris but he didn't look to be blessed with much pace when we played them at the lane.

I am convinced that our total lack of pace is our biggest problem at the moment and as such i see Houlahan as an ideal start to addressing this problem.

I would like to see us go for Peter Halmosi from Plymouth, and to surprise a few people... Simon Whaley of Preston. Both pacey wingers and can both chip in with a few goals. I've always rated Whaley.

Would also like to see us go for Joe Ledley altough he's probably out of our price range at the moment.

Bardsley can play centre back can't he? therefore put him there with Killa and stick geary back at right back and also do everything we can to get Cahill, if not look at someone like Craig Cathcart on loan from Man U or Oguchi Onyewu

Left Wing i can't look past Hoolahan, he's got everything we realisticly want at left mid but Halmosi from Plymouth has a fair bit of pace to him and would be a good alternative

Right Wing, Routledge isn't getting a sniff of any action at the moment and neither is Eagles and both could be tempted, even if it is only a loan

Centre Mid, we've been linked with Richard Hughes and i would be well happy for us to sign him, he's like a more technically gifted version of Monty and he could be good with either Hendrie or Speed. Also QPR have been linked to Savage, i relay can't see him coming to us but surely he'd be worth another go

CB- Gary Cahill would be great but i doubt he will come here permanently. Ryan Shawcross from Man Utd who is currently on loan at Stoke. He is tall, quick, great in the air and only 19 or 20 i think. £1m would be enough for him.

RM- Chris Eagles would be an awesome signing for us. Like Shawcross he is on the fringes of the Man Utd first team and still young. From what ive seen of him he can take people on and put in good crosses. It would take a lot but at £2/£3m he would be a great signing.

LM- Like Daz said Joe Ledley. I would love him here but i don't think he would come to us but i agree Simon Whaley because he can score a few goals. Wes Hoolahan would be decent and only cost about £500k

CM- Nigel Quashie because he can attack and defend well and can pick a out a great pass. Not getting games at West Ham and £2m would get him.

Not heard anything about Kavanagh, has anyone else?

that to me would be some quality signing's...well picked :D

Centre Back
Cahill or Shawcross

Right wing
Routledge (been qouted at £3 million so that may put United off)
Eagles
Wade o'connor (burnley)

Left wing
Ledley
Hoolahan
Lafferty (burnley)

Had a chat with a Friend earlier who's a Scout for Villa.
Wouldn't give me a 100% straight answer but said he wouldn't put money on Cahill coming back, but if he did it 99% wouldn't be permenent. :(

Talking of Plymouth, even after winning 3 on trot they are still outside the play offs.

Sturrock is a shit manager, took them out the play offs and now they haven't got a chance.
