Taylor suits Blades

SHEFFIELD UNITED are understood to be monitoring Oldham Athletic's Chris Taylor as the Championship club prepare to refresh their squad during next month's transfer window.
Kevin Blackwell is believed to be ready to pay around £500,000 for the 21-year-old, who has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for John Sheridan's side this term.

But having already rejected a similar offer from Blackpool in June, Oldham are likely to hold out for more as they look to spark a bidding war for a player regarded as one of the brightest talents in the Football League.

Signing Taylor, a midfielder, would mark the first phase of United's plan to recruit promising young players before they appear on the top-flight's radar.

Taylor who?

I've seen him a few times and he looks an excellent prospect.

Plays on either wing and chips in with goals too, could be worth a go at that price.

I haven't seen him play are you talking good championship prospect with premiership potential?

I hope we don't settle for anything less than a million, because he's an integral part of our team and is more than capable of playing in The Championship. He's scored a few this season and set up a lot, here's a glimpse of what he is capable of, he skins people for fun down that left wing.

And of course he won us the penalty at the weekend:

To be honest was a nice run but I can't see the tackles being so half hearted at Championship Level.

However, he looks promising and the video clip is useful.

I can't see us forking out a million for a League 1 player though. At that level they just don't command those prices.

Quality header and he can obviously hit a decent ball. Didn't think most of the goals were anything exceptional (apart from the header) but if he can score week in week out like that, then he'd definately be worth having.

Scored against Hartlepool the other night. We had scouts there apparently.

if the rumours are correct and we are looking at this player, then we need to get in there early before we end up in a potential bidding war with clubs that are happy and willing to outbid us.

If we dont then we will end up at the latter stages of the window which will either produce nothing or panic style buys. Either way its simply more ammunition for the boo boys et al

According to the Mirror today we are chasing Oldham winger Chris Taylor.

Is a current Loanee not being retained? Or just more bollox from the Mirror

why do we need another wide man?

Will someone tell Blackwell there's only two wings on a single pitch!!!

The Mirror aren't usually too far off the mark when it comes to us it seems.

Not a bad player at all for Oldham but I'm not convinced he can make the grade in the championship and if we're to still believe the club want promotion he definitely isn't good enough to play in the premier league.

I don't see him as a step forward or as a move towards quality instead of quantity but then again I could say that about a few recent signings.

There you go, there's another whinge I just couldn't help myself :-)
