highest wages in league one

Just looked at it...take that article with a pinch of salt, looks a fine piece of propaganda to me:

Typical 'big headline' followed by nothing to substantiate it...

'The figures explain why United were so quick to part company with former manager Nigel Adkins'

Followed by...

'Although the exact figures remain unknown, '

I'm guessing their 'source within the game' sits on United's board...or the tea room...

I thought the wage bill was around £9million?
At least that's what the accounts stated...maybe £6 million is players alone Snd the other £3million staff!?!?

We do employ a lot more people now than a few year back..

Perhaps Sean Thornton can shed sone light on this article..?
We haven't published the accounts for the season just gone yet. Nor have Wigan for that matter.
'Sources within the game' means Kev has planted the story to make Adkins look an even bigger failure than he was.

I've yet to see a post on here that goes through the headline figures of the last accounts.

...so the figure of £9 million is for Clough's last season which would mean Adkins reduced the wage bill by £3milion..right!??

Never our local paper surely!? Actually I think James Shield does his best and overall I find his reporting reasonable but they always have loved a headline than doesn't befit the actual context! I recall as a teenager getting a bus back from Parkwood College and in town seeing the Sheffield Star headlines of "Blades target Premier League Star"! Only to discover it would be some nobody that had been injured for months and had only ever played a handful of games! I still fell for it each time though hoping for once that the headline would befit the player! It never did, although I was amazed when we spent £1m for the first time on John Ebbrell, and look at how that turned out! I was there for that half a game too v Reading!

Really not surprising. It was so clear what Adkins was about from very early on. This is just one more piece of evidence on top of the many others.

A very, very poor manager that has been found out. If he finds work, I empathise with every club he'll continue to bullshit and fail miserably at as he drops like a stone down the leagues.

Re-read the article Barney

If these figures are correct, it would appear that Adkins slashed the wage bill by one third.

...on this showing he's lining up as the next Al Dunlop!

of course Adkins inherited a lot of it
but surely management is the key word in this
hes supposed to oust the costly ones and bring in some semblance of value for money players
not persist with over paid under achievers
and no matter how long contracts are you can always get shot either on loan or give away
Like, press the "oust" button?

"and no matter how long contracts are you can always get shot either on loan or give away".....Sigh. Burger flippers of the world unite.

As I say, I haven't seen the accounts for the last accounting year but based on the two quoted figures, it would appear so.

This club never learn when handing out contracts and wages, it continually happens and the blame game starts. We appear to have personal who are charged with controlling contracts and seem completely amazed when they spiral out of control, followed by that old chestnut "we make mistakes but learn from them". I wouldn't trust them with our gerts housekeeping.

of course your surprised
every time I told you we paid the most you called me a liar didnt you

well you know everything dont you,,,

You said Adkins had spent the most in the league on transfer fees and backed it up with a bulllshit website they claimed Connor Sammon was our player and worth the most in the squad.

Don't let facts get in the way though will you.

How can any manager oust an over paid contracted player who isn't performing? He can't just sack them.

It's far easier to get rid of your good players than your shite!

I wouldn't bother.
Logic is lost on this chap.

I love the idea that the 5 players Adkins got in, mainly on loan, are responsible for the entire waste in our 43 man wagebill.

A quick down the released / transfer list clearly shows where the main problem lies. But let's not let the facts get in the way of some good emotional outburts.

I think it's a case of posting before thinking.

And was constantly slashing the wage bill throughout the season. Player after player being sent out on loan, and no doubt lots more would have followed now on contract expiry.

That's not to diminish the job Wilder has done, who really hasn't fucked about :)

This vast squad that Nigel was having to deal with ("deal with" = "give clean slates to") seems to get bigger & bigger with each passing day. Admittedly the tea lady could pretty easily outperform Dean Hammond on the pitch, but it's a bit much to include her in Nige's squad.

As others have posted and McCabe stated before Princey arrived, we needed a cull...I think Princey's arrival simply supported the 'paying above the odds' for average talent approach for a few more years...and the accumulation of players under Clough.

The prince was a year too late. Had we been able to retain Willo and Quinny, added Blackman, Miller and another striker, got a decent left back, cover at CH and a creative player to cover KMac we'd have easily gone up in Wilson's second season.
Of course, that would have probably cost us five or so million. By saving that then, how much has KM subsequently lost? And we'll never be able to sign players as good as Quinn and Willo were at the time whilst we remain in L1.

Doing my best for 'the cause' I made a note of the wage bill when we got relegated and have added with guestimations how much each new player added to the pot.

I had the total wage bill as about 7.2M - by all means pick your own figure and pro-rata.

Those 6 players we offloaded permanently (Higdon, Collins, Alcock, Philips, Dimaio, Khan) - 715,000
The 3 loanee not returning (Baptiste, Edgar, Sammon), our contribution to their wages - 936,000
The 10 players released PLUS the 9 youth players who I assume didn't get new deals - 1,651,000
The 7 listed players all of whom are still contracted to us I have as equating to - 1,638,000

A gnats off of 5m off or intended to be off the wage bill.

That leaves me with, including the new youth players, a little shy of 2,400,000 for the remaining 20 players, 8 seniors (including Long) and 12 younger players (including Reed).

Even if we add say 7 first teamers at up to 5,000 per week we should still be within the confines of 4,250,000 as a wage bill for 27 players. Then it will just be the wages of those listed players we are still stuck with.

I see that as a better platform at this level than having 49 players equating to over 7,000,000.

Don't forget the cleaners.

Linda and Sue.

Oh and club dog Gizmo.

So, if these figures are true, how do you square up Adkins cutting the wage bill by a third?
Simple ignore it because it doesn't fit your agenda?

Surely you can see this propaganda to justify cutting Wilders cloth even more?

I don't think those figures are true.

The figure keeps rising every week. We never had 43 senior professionals in the squad.

The figure just seems to garner more and more players from the youth set up as it goes.

This just looks like one big fuck up to me. I understand the board sanctioning Sammon Edgar Hammond etc to allow Adkins to bring some players in, however and this is a big however.. You can fucking forget about that clean slate comment. There is no clean slate as you're asking us to increase the wage bill by say 1.5m. It's just all fucked up

The wage bill figures Barney , the one's you were roorerin about this morning...

So you don't think 'Adkins' £6 million 'highest' wage bill in the league is true?
Or you don't think the £9million Clough wage bill in the accounts is true?

Those are the figures I was referring to...as you well know...

we managed to get rid of Porter, Davies turner,
free transfers are always available ,
just cos we think they are shit doesnt mean someone somewhere wont take them
weve signed enough cack players to show it happens

I wouldn't bother.
Logic is lost on this chap.

logic is 91 other clubs get rid of players they dont want , why should we be any different
if wednesday could unload all these dog shit players surely we can oust most of ours

lots of lovely free transfers
why you persist in apologising for Adkins inadequacy in the transfer market in getting shot is what defies logic

That's a number I seem to keep seeing. I think anyone with a modicum of sense will at least acknowledge that it was excessively bloated, whatever the number.

Because we are paying way over the odds in the first place, unlike Wednesday who were skint when they signed those players.

It's really not that difficult to grasp for most, you know?

I think the £6m figure is true. I'm sure Clough's wage bill is there or thereabouts also. What I don't think is that we ever had 43 senior professionals in the squad as purported by some on here, which was the point I was making.

again , what are you defending
wednesday werent skint theyd just got iphone chancer in charge and spent 4 million on blackforestcakieri
what has what we were paying them got to do with getting rid of them
doubt if many were on 100 k a week

what does it matter what wednesday initially paid for those anyway

In that case, the point you were making is wrong...here are the staff costs for Clough's last year.
Over £9million, as quoted on here by several people...

So, as I said...if the £6million figure is true, Adkins slashed the wage bill by around a third.

apart from first team players
theres managers
assistants
coaches
specialist coaches
medical staff physios etc
all academy staff
ground staff
shop and office staff
are the under 21s on a different wage bill

202 staff wages soon adds up dont it

noticed that actual football staff had fallen 33 from the previous season 2014
the 40 extra non football staff seem to have upped the bill somewhat
is this just jim phipps money

they directors had said they were cutting non football numbers this season maybe thats got it between 6 and 7 million , if theyve cut non football by half

When did I say he didn't slash the wage bill?

I said we never had 43 senior professionals in the squad, and the point remains.
