Apologies if it's already been dealt with but why did wilder leave Oxford to take over at Northampton? Oxford were in the league 2 play off positions and Northampton looked on their way our of the league. Anyone know the reasons?

I just assumed he had been sacked already when I read the thread title.

An hour closer to home?

Resigned - Oxford United - 26 January 2014.
Appointed - Northampton Town - 27 January 2014.

Can't see it being for financial reasons.
NTFC weren't exactly breaking the spending records.

They'll be an outpouring of OUFC tourists coming in peace very soon.

The Oxford chairman didn't offer him a contract until the last one had expired. The new contract was only for a year so Wilder obviously thought he was taking the piss. He wasn't treated that well considering he'd got them promoted back into the league.

Highbury_Blade - Is it really a whole hour though considering road works and the time of day he'd be traveling?
LYDON - this is a bold attempt to draw them in, just to cheer you up
BushBlade - cheers. Still seems a bit of a risk. The guy running NTFC turned out to be reight lad din't he. Certainly not afraid to take on a challenge

PS - Just worked out how to use the @ sign, so I thought I'd give it a go

The manager only had one year on his contract after achieving a promotion? No club would surely be stupid enough to do that...

A friend of mine spoke to Wilder a few years back just after his move and asked him. The answer was something along the lines of he couldn't work with the chairmen anymore

I recall that a falling out with the board/chairman had taken place over budget if memory serves

Weren't Northampton promising "game-changing" investment around that time from India?

I assumed that was why he took the job?

Weird thing was Wilder's chairman at oxford followed him to Northampton!

That was the old chairman. I think it was the one after that he fell out with.
Oh right, fair enough then
I just know the chairman he worked under at Oxford then took over at Northampton. We can expect to see Kelvin Thomas making an offer the club very soon ;) 3 way ownership - it's the future.

What happened to that clown Oxoman? They won the Milk cup you know. Have we ever won the milk cup he asked, many times?
