McCabe had Wilder and Knill on radar for some time (!)

Top achievement to get him here, timing now right to bring him in

Want to bring a unity to the club, blend the team with a mixture of youth and good seasoned professionals.

Wilder

As soon as call came, no option

Promotion anyway automatic or via play offs

Sharp new team captain, he has to lead from the front.

Relishes challenge despite managerial upheaval

Wilder needs to bring the club together

I disagree with this. My view is unchanged from when this came up during last season – it should ideally be someone in the middle of defence or midfield able to influence the team. Sharp can be isolated at times, and frankly I'd rather he just continue to focus on what he's good at.

I would agree, but Sharp seems to be the ONLY character at the club big enough. Certainly don't have any midfielders or defenders capable at the moment

Yes, I had hoped we'd be bringing in that type this summer. Perhaps a worrying sign that we won't be...

Even if you brought in a new guy in he won't know the club. Sharp isn't going to play every minute of every game so the vice will be just as important. Maybe a new player will take that mantle

Oh dear. I think we're going to start to see an ever so small trend emerging with those who loved Adkins to pieces and those who are going to pick up on things that don't need picking up on. If he'd made McEveley captain as Adkins did you'd have a point.

There is no other option of the current crop. No body is vocal enough, or leads by example, except for Billy.

I'm sure this will be addressed by Wilder and we will finally get a leader in a centre half and in the middle of the pitch.

Interesting to note that Wilder's first big decision is the same one which Adkins needed to make. Wilder's has gone down very well, in the main, and Adkins was met with general disapproval.

I don't actually agree with Sharp as captain, when things are not going his way, he is a sulky mardy bastard and not sure he is leadership material. Few times last season I remember him getting pissed when people didn't pass to him etc.

For balance, I love him as a player, just not sure if hes captain material but then again, what do I know. I am a mere minion fan.

Well some said that about Rooney.

Who loved Adkins? And I think you'll find I was equally critical of the McEveley appointment and the suggestion last year that Adkins should give Sharp the captaincy.

What's more worrying is that there is probably going to be a trend that everyone that hates Adkins will automatically love everything Wilder does. I'm very happy to back Wilder and give him time to do the job.

And Wilder out!

Prefer a Centre half or Centre mid too, but not much choice other than Billy, he's an experience pro, loves the club and can see him being Wilder's right hand man on the pitch. Good decision given the circumstances.

Billy is our poster boy and the obvious (in fact only) choice out of the current sorry lot for captaincy. And not just because he's a Blade, that's just a nice soundbite bonus. This is a show of Bladey intent and a rally cry to us fans.

I imagine everyone that Wilder has had contact with will have highlighted in plain swear filled English our ultra pap leadership and fragile nature, especially at the back. He'll address this. The armband can then go to this new monster of a player. Sharp can then go back to focusing on onion sack duties and nowt else.

Exactly, and that perhaps sums up why we are where we are. Lack of leaders on the pitch.

Or perhaps CW knows that Billy is the only player who truly loves the club. We can sign anyone but they won't be as passionate about this club than an actual fan playing for his childhood team. If Billy can show fight, passion and effort as captain then hopefully the rest will follow suit.
