20+ points would be a good achievement from the start we’ve made.

Agreed, that 2-1 defeat at Forest has cost us dearly, so easily could have been the other way round if Traore had scored his chance. A 6 point swing. We must beat them at the Lane.Let's stay grounded for now. We are 6 points adrift of Forest, who are the team we need to catch. We have an awful December coming up on paper where we may well only pick up points from Luton. Our best hope is that Forest's winless streak continues and we maintain the gap at 6 and not allow it to increase by any more than 1 point.
It really is a case of taking things one game at a time and not getting carried away. That said, one week ago I'd have said we'd go to Stamford Bridge and get battered. With another week of Wilder working with the players there's optimism for a draw, which would have seemed like deluded mad talk a week ago.
What a difference a week makes.
Very unpredictable to know what we will have at our disposal to come back up. Like you I don't see a team for us to realistically catch. I'd say forest but let's be honest, they will spend a small fortune in January and be comfortably clear. The problem is the teams that looked catchable have come good. Bournemouth and Everton have turned in to 1970 Brazil. Fulham have just won 5-0 twice on the trot. Forest and Palace have dipped form-wise but I expect them to pick back up.
Doesn’t look possible to me. But I’m ok with that. We’ll have enough to come back up.
Lots of speculation on what the total required for survival this year, and whether it wll be a record low. I don't know about that, but assuming 38 pts is the regular benchmark for staying up and an average of 36 pts is usually safe, then we'll need 28-30 more pts! I've gone through the fixtures left and stuck what i think is achievable against each.

31pts from the remaining fixtures. I think it's doable, but we could be out of he running by the end of January. Feb will be a big month!

The other difference is the PL is a different beast to Division 1. Back in 90/91 it was far more equal and teams could win and beat each other. The difference between this team and the 90/91 team is they had a pair of bollocks.

I think we're just in that very awkward stage as a club. Flirting quite regularly with the prem but not quite good enough to be there. So we end up back down where (some might argue) we belong in the Championship but we'll often be one of the bigger clubs there wilth the cost of the squad and what have you.I don't get why everyone is so bothered about this league. It's wank unless your lucky enough to be born supporting one of the 'big' clubs. Give me relegation. In fact I wouldn't mind going down again next year and spending next few years winning the vast majority of games, getting bladdered and waking up Sunday with that 'day after a win' feeling. Whether it's Portsmouth or Liverpool every win feels good.
True that we got slagged off last season for having PL players in the Champs and now we get slagged off for having Champ players in the PL. Problem is this season its true and costing us.I think we're just in that very awkward stage as a club. Flirting quite regularly with the prem but not quite good enough to be there. So we end up back down where (some might argue) we belong in the Championship but we'll often be one of the bigger clubs there wilth the cost of the squad and what have you.
We'll be ostracized in the championship for having a multi million quid squad with the regular parachute payments and ostracized in the Prem for not belonging there. Weird situation.
Reminds me of that age where you’re too young for the pub, yet too old to stay in. Around 16ish. Limbo!!I think we're just in that very awkward stage as a club. Worth remembering that most of the Great Escapers got recaptured and machine gunned in a field. The Yanks - McQueen, Garner, Coburn - all survived, so that bodes well for Trusty, at least.
With Luton smashing it, we are truly fucked.I had us down for a win tonight, we're five points behind where I hoped we'd be after 6 games played, so it think it's safe to say we're fucked.
We’re fucking fucked, for fucks sake.I had us down for a win tonight, we're five points behind where I hoped we'd be after 6 games played, so it think it's safe to say we're fucked.
