I think we certainly can, I’m not sure we do. 5 games ago, maybe, but think it’ll be a step too far even with a resurgence. As always, very happy to be wrong!

22 games left. Loads of time and points on offer and the gap is still to 17th is still manageable.

If we can win 6 or 7 and draw a few that gets us to around 30 odd points, which may actually be enough.

But in any case, it will be far from a humiliation if we still go down.

Let's stay grounded for now. We are 6 points adrift of Forest, who are the team we need to catch. We have an awful December coming up on paper where we may well only pick up points from Luton. Our best hope is that Forest's winless streak continues and we maintain the gap at 6 and not allow it to increase by any more than 1 point.

It really is a case of taking things one game at a time and not getting carried away. That said, one week ago I'd have said we'd go to Stamford Bridge and get battered. With another week of Wilder working with the players there's optimism for a draw, which would have seemed like deluded mad talk a week ago.

What a difference a week makes.
Agreed, that 2-1 defeat at Forest has cost us dearly, so easily could have been the other way round if Traore had scored his chance. A 6 point swing. We must beat them at the Lane.

If the apprenticed Chris wilder has come the master from basset no problem the team have to play they have been in the last two game and have the fight and the belief the fans will back them 100% .

The problem is the teams that looked catchable have come good. Bournemouth and Everton have turned in to 1970 Brazil. Fulham have just won 5-0 twice on the trot. Forest and Palace have dipped form-wise but I expect them to pick back up.

Doesn’t look possible to me. But I’m ok with that. We’ll have enough to come back up.

Very unpredictable to know what we will have at our disposal to come back up. Like you I don't see a team for us to realistically catch. I'd say forest but let's be honest, they will spend a small fortune in January and be comfortably clear.

Lots of speculation on what the total required for survival this year, and whether it wll be a record low. I don't know about that, but assuming 38 pts is the regular benchmark for staying up and an average of 36 pts is usually safe, then we'll need 28-30 more pts! I've gone through the fixtures left and stuck what i think is achievable against each.

31pts from the remaining fixtures. I think it's doable, but we could be out of he running by the end of January. Feb will be a big month!

Obi - Theoretically 3 points is "achievable" ( your word ) from every game. Sticking noughts, ones and threes against a fixture list is about as scientific as using a pin for the Donkey's tail.
Lots of factors involved over rest of season, other clubs form. catching a fixture when opponents have had a European game shortly before and are tired and out-of-sorts. Injury lists, Referee infallibilities, Points deductions, player bans, Wilder's Gout plays up.
All in all its possible lets keep hoping.

The good news is that we are ahead of schedule!

We could do it if the other teams stopped getting results!! Forest, Luton, Burnley all winning.. Sod’s law we get a great point and they all get 3 points…. Hopefully it changes quick fast in this 2nd half

After three games, we're 2 pts behind were I thought we'd be. Not a total disaster, but I can't see the prince spending what we need in January based on yesterday's result.

The difference between this team and the 90/91 team is they had a pair of bollocks.

Worth remembering that most of the Great Escapers got recaptured and machine gunned in a field. The Yanks - McQueen, Garner, Coburn - all survived, so that bodes well for Trusty, at least.

I don't get why everyone is so bothered about this league. It's wank unless your lucky enough to be born supporting one of the 'big' clubs. Give me relegation. In fact I wouldn't mind going down again next year and spending next few years winning the vast majority of games, getting bladdered and waking up Sunday with that 'day after a win' feeling. Whether it's Portsmouth or Liverpool every win feels good.

depends hugely on recruitment, what deals Wilder can thrash out

there are 5 or 6 that can wave farewell to free up wages for incoming

35 points looks not far off being the cut off , but now if you look at the aggregate points of the bottom 3 at halfway , the current bottom 3 are not that awful theres been several 3 or 4 bottom 3s with fewer points

so 9 points in the bank and 26 points needed to get to 35 8 wins 2 draws and 7 losses , still is very difficult

I think we're just in that very awkward stage as a club. Flirting quite regularly with the prem but not quite good enough to be there. So we end up back down where (some might argue) we belong in the Championship but we'll often be one of the bigger clubs there wilth the cost of the squad and what have you.

We'll be ostracized in the championship for having a multi million quid squad with the regular parachute payments and ostracized in the Prem for not belonging there. Weird situation.

True that we got slagged off last season for having PL players in the Champs and now we get slagged off for having Champ players in the PL. Problem is this season its true and costing us.

Reminds me of that age where you’re too young for the pub, yet too old to stay in. Around 16ish. Limbo!!

I think we need to add a dose of hope with a dose of realism.

The position we are in means realistically we have to drastically improve results and pick up around 9 wins (or 6 or 7 with some draws) out of 19. It's a big ask, probably too big.

But it's also not actually impossible. And whilst that is the case we shouldn't be stopping the desire and effort to do so.

Obviously we saw why and how but had we not dropped too deep like wilder said in our last two we would be looking at 9pts from 15.
That sort of form would keep us up.
There are signs of improvement in my opinion since CW came back.

Next match is likely to be the inevitable result. We have to hope we can be compact and resolute as we were Vs villa and maybe we can get points there.

But realistically it won't happen for 90-105 minutes.

After city we have a better run of games again ( in theory)

Oh great! I was just watching that on TV at the mo. Saves me 90mins of my life, should have done the same yesterday.
