Board left with no choice

Genuinely don't think the board or anyone involved actually wanted this, we can criticise all we like. The board aren't planning the demise of the club, they know what Wilder had done and what he means to the fans and how massively unpopular this will be, they want the club to succeed and get into the Premier League (even if only to line their pockets!)

Results, recruitment, comments in the media etc all ultimately made the position untenable for everyone.

I very much doubt its a straight sacking. Mutual consent or Wilder to have walked.

Time will tell if it was the right thing to do.

I assume the new guy gets 10 games before we turn on them. Wilder got about that this season despite the unbelievable success directly beforehand. So maybe 10 games is generous.
To be fair, hardly anyone has turned on Wilder. Bedwetters use social media to make a splash they can't in the real world, because nobody listens to these social inadequates.

Away from football message boards, Wilder had enormous support.

The stats say there is only Guadiola and Klopp who are better than him. Fingers crossed Klopp leaves Liverpool and rejects German National Team advances 😳

Absolutely gutted with what has transpired this morning. No doubt leaks will be thrown out by Chris to his many media buddies with his side of the argument, so the board needs to issue a short statement ASAP now, followed by a more detailed statement directly from the Prince over the next few days to calm the fanbase with a clear vision on the way forward.
I'm sure that over the last few months, with Wilder's threats of leaving, the Prince will have worked on some contingency measures.
Just hope we can keep onside the feelings of the main players now. We don't want the likes of JOC, Egan, Bash and a few others deciding to jump ship.

Ye true. Just very very pissed off and want to blame the ridiculous posters on here who've wanted this to happen

Continuously moaned about not been backed in the transfer market.
That's a slant on it. The other slant is that he's just pointed out what's obvious to everyone in the footballing world - that our players aren't good enough to compete with most in the premier league.

That's not "continually slagging your boss off".

Lets face it, the writing's been on the wall. And I really doubt Prince and co wanted it to come to this, because they know exactly what Wilder means to the fanbase.

But. Every press conference if it hasn't been blowing smoke up the opposition's arse has been thinly veiled digs at the board.
He's been struggling like never before so he's been punching out, I get that, but destroying your relationship with those above you probably isn't a good idea.
Dragging our crap through the media has been very unsavoury to see, and it's only been from one party.

He's been backed, to the volume NO manager of this club ever has been, or likely ever will be again in the near future. To the sound of £130m.
The transfers haven't been a particular success so the board are rumoured to want a DoF in, that's a good model to follow and all the elite (and the majority of the Prem) have in place. It's thinking to the future. Chris didn't like it. But if he can't work with a DoF he'll never get a job at a top club.

Thanks for everything Chris, and I'm sad it's had to happen like this. But I really think it's for the best for all concerned.
We I suspect will now get a DoF in place and create a new club structure which we will need to become a sustainable PL club (fucking hell, even Burnley have one).
I expect him to take a little break and get a job at a Championship club angling for promotion late next season. And that will be really sad to see him in the opposition dugout.

The club isn't ending, managers come and go, although this one hurts at the minute. And it hurts we didn't get to say goodbye or thank him for the previous 4 years.
My personal views on the situation and this season aside, he is the best I've ever seen and I literally have CWAK tattooed on my arse.
He leaves us in a far better state than when he took over, now it's over to the board to put their plans into play. And none of this 'it will set us back 10 years' bollocks, we are about to go down with parachute payments and the basics of a great championship squad. Few additions here and there, create a new structure at the club with a DoF and a European scouting network - and with a good manager at the helm we'll be up there. Don't you worry about that.

But again, thanks for everything Chris. Brought our club back from the dead and we will never forget it. Legend.

The most sensible post I've seen today. Thank you.

Apart from the tattooed arse. That's not sensible.

They did have a choice and they've got it wrong. They've destroyed everything he's done in the 4 years. And we know if by some absolute miracle we ever get in the position wilder got us in again (champions league qualification in our hands with 10 games to go) they'll just sack whoever got us there as soon as we have a difficult spell. Dont really see the point in us now.
Well there's always Meadowhall for you.

Don't see the point ?? FFS

The board expects Wilder to pull off a miracle every season.

It's convenient for them, it hides their shortcomings.

The board has plenty of choice. But if they want to go down the Director of Football, well good luck with that one in the Championship.

I couldn't disagree more that he's caused this or that he's pissec on his chips etc. Why you revelling in it? You're probably exactly the kind if guy wilder meant when slagging fans off
If he's resigned, which appears to be the most likely, what would you have expected the board to do? Refuse to accept it?

It's been terrible for Norwich, in fairness

Not put him in that position with the DOF rubbish and whatever else they've done. So so stupid what we've done. We deserve to rot for years

The timing is certainly strange.
Would be interesting to know why it is now and not 3 or 4 months ago or why we didn't wait until next Christmas.
It is still "we", I still and will always support United - whoever owns them, who ever is the manager.
It's obvious that there has been an ultimatum and a falling out between the parties that couldn't be resolved.

That was cleared up by both sides. DoF wasn't being pushed so long as Wilder was here.
In short you are proposing that Wilder should have gotten whatever he wanted? Spend what he likes, full control, no oversight?

Which way's the wind blowing? Even read earlier his signings hadn't been a great success. Mcburnie included in that?
Probably wouldn't have been a waste of money had the manager used him the way he should be used, but turning him into a reborn Kevin Davies yes he is a waste of money at this point.

OK whatever else they've done then. He clearly didn't want to leave as he said in that presser a couple back

If ...... this deed has been done, and I hope that this is just bullshit ..... then it's a sad day for the Club and the fans. 😞
Those who have no patience and want to see a Club with the lowest wages bill in the PL get in the Champions League will have got their way.
A Club without a very rich owner doesn't get a foothold in the PL at the first attempt and building a squad capable of effectively competing in the PL takes time and resources. Resources that our current owners do not possess.
Having supported the Blades through good & bad (mostly crap Boards and pathetic managers) for 55 years, I have seen the way that this beloved Club of mine have shot themselves in the foot on countless occasions and I dared to hope that this behaviour had changed 😏
I just hope that the next big decision the Club makes is a good one ..... or the backlash from the fans will be long, vociferous, and no doubt brutal.
I await with interest, the events of the close season 🤞
UTB & FTP

and the Prince said they wanted him to stay next season, 100%.
The club have said they haven't sacked him, so he's resigned and they'll come up with an agreement and put out mutually agreed.
This is on Chris, so I'll ask again, what should they have done? Given him everything he wanted? Complete control?

Can I just exclaim, Wilder is not bigger than Sheffield United. We will move on as a club it's a sad day, but we won't end up back in League 1 nor will we stop as a football club.

We had the worst start in PL history and no manager would have survived that in world football never mind the PL. The board stuck with him, we have improved but after the Soton performance, you can see somethings not right. Wilder has had digs at fans, the boards, refs, players and never took any of the blame on himself.

The transfers have been subpar the lack of formation changes, which have bewildered me at times when we have no CB's. A lot of this adds up.

I have seen the best years of the best years under Wilder, but we move on as a club and we can't stop supporting Sheffield United even if you don't agree.

We are Sheffield United FC NOT Wilder FC!!!
Following on from this I do want to say I don’t think it’s the right decision to let him go. Give him until Christmas and if we are still poor next season we know it’s finished.

I’d like to personally thank Wilder for the best years we’ve had for a very long time.

And if we bring Neil fucking Lennon in we need to stand against this. The number 1 target should be Eddie Howe, who left Bournemouth in similar circumstances last season. Got touted with the England job a few seasons ago, seems a nice bloke and would fit into the club.

To be honest, the more I think about Wilder going the angrier I am about the lack of direction of this move.

Yeah, they've performed much better than us

The Norwich model is toast anyway. Post Brexit the Home Office have changed the immigration rules. The Norwichs and Brentfords of this world can no longer pluck a gem on the cheap from a European league as they probably won't get a work permit
