Jebbo getting dogs abuse yesterday put me in mind to ask what's the worst reception you've ever heard for a single opposition player at the Lane?

One that sticks out in my mind from recent times is Marvin Sordell (deservedly) getting some proper stick when he returned to BDTBL for the first time after breaking Coutts' leg. All four sides absolutely hissing every time he had the ball.

Half a mind to exclude pigs/ex-pigs from the discussion but I won't because I'm nice like that!

Gary Bennett, who did that horror tackle that ended Ian Knight's career. Came to the Lane 2 seasons later with Southend and was booed every time he touched the ball. Cross City solidarity.

That’s the one, thanks.

Also remember Mark Ward getting a hostile reception for describing us as a long ball team, which of course we were at that time.

I was disappointed Jebbo went and still think the abuse he gets on here, plus the people deciding he's shit forever is/are odd.

But fuck me, people can boo, abuse (within legal bounds) whoever they like at the matches. It's a game that we all obsess over, we are all daft already. Being a cunt to the opposition is fun

Mauricio Taricco always got dogs abuse because he's a twat.
Gareth Ainsworth always got dogs abuse, also because he's a twat.
I recall Taricco playing for Ipswich in the mid/late 90's and there being something that happened in a game - was it this game:

No, it was the season before. We were 2-0 up and cruising and Whitehouse was sent off as a result of Tarrico play acting. Finished 2-2.

Nick Henry (Playoffs in 1997) and Chris Short (cup in 1998) were also both sent off for fouling Tarrico.

I can remember a young Peter Crouch getting so much abuse that he had to be subbed. A lot of souls on here would've been up I'm arms about it
Yep - as I recall everytime he went near the ball the crowd shouted "Freak".

Quite honestly unacceptable behaviour from us for something that Crouch was unable to control.

Aha, so interestingly both of these...

were as a result of an interaction with DW.

I was only a kid at the time, but that's stuck with me ever since as it didn't sit right with me.

Little did we know he'd become a bit of a legend, and a very likeable bloke. It feels even more wrong now.

Didn’t Tarrico spit in one of our players face that caused a little brawl. Forget who it was now.

In recent memory former player wise, Paddy Kenny on his first match back against us (QPR, maybe?) Only the first time back though.

See him often at Blades games still with his daughter.
