These views back up what I've already been told by a Wolves season ticket holder.

Basically they rate EEL as a top level league 1 defender but would struggle in the Championship, but think he might do a decent job for a lower Championship club.

They say he's good in the air but struggles against tricky clever forwards on the ground, poor decision making and has a mistake in him. They laugh at our praise and say he's just another Titus Bramble. Capable for bring brilliant but then makes a blunder. They also say there's a massive difference between league 1 and the Championship, so don't get carried away when someone is great in league 1.

If Wolves are desperate (which they might be as their current defenders are in poor form) then they may take EEL back but if they have ambition then their knowledgable fans are saying EEL is not good enough for a team with playoff ambitions. He would be a stop gap and probably a sub.

Most Wolves fans seem to think he'll stay with us for the rest of the season then they'll sell him to a lower Championship club in the Summer. If we get promoted they assume he'll sign permanently with us.

Whoever he plays for, the manager just needs to remember he ain't Beckenbauer (or Kieran Freeman for that matter), but what he is good at is basic defending. Funny piece in Warnock's book about Shaun Murphy who'd tried to dribble past someone in his own area, Warnock went crazy "You're my centre half, I want you to fuckin' head it and fuckin' kick it". Essentially that's all EEL needs to do, basic defending, tackle and when he's got the ball, give it to someone who can play.

True, but there's a difference in being able to 'play' and basic passing of the ball. It's fine in League 1 when Coutts keeps running back to within a couple of yards to receive the ball but higher up when you've got better quality strikers sniffing around, I can appreciate exactly what the Wolves fans are saying from what I've seen.

Mind you, Morgs made a career out of it ;)

I don't mind centre halves who are ordinary on the ball. Just so long as they play within their limitations. Nyron Nosworthy, I'm looking at you.....

That's the key for him. If he starts getting over confident, thinks he's a good enough to start dribbling out of the ball and pinging the ball round, then he's going to struggle. He ll be good enough for the championship if he sticks to the basics and has decent footballers around him.

Agree but Wolves have ambitions to challenge for promotion and I don't think EEL at this stage in his career is good enough for that. I do think he's good enough to go up with us and help us stay in the Championship and, with a couple more years experience may be good enough for a team challenging at the top end. And if it turns out he isn't, I'm sure other teams in the bottom of the championship/top of league 1 would take him off our hands.

Why is it so difficult?

I have a good friend who's a season ticket holder at Bramhall Lane.....

We ought to be able to keep him on the grounds that those Staffordshire cretins can't spell and so don't deserve him back. I'll have a look through the Football League bylaws and see if there is anything there to cover it.

I haven't found anything definite yet, but it does look like if we get to keep him, West Ham get given 5 points by an FA Trevor Brooking panel (of one).

Apparently anything else would be 'unfair' on their fans.

We're one of the wealthiest clubs in the uk and we're looking to bring back a player plying his trade in Lg 1. FFS, let's please show some ambition here. If we've made some progress under PL I'm hoping for 2 or 3 top signings/loans in January to push us on for a po shot. EEL my ****!

Love that attitude. :)

I'm certainly not advocating that it's ok for him to give the ball away, merely that his basic instructions should include passing it short with little risk and not attempting high risk passes.

Because there's a place called Bramhall. So people think the name is to do with that. And to them it's not that important, same as I don't care how you spell Molinoo. Or Wulverampton.

Having said that, how many of us can spell "Molineux"? ...Did I get it right?

It all depends on who EEL has playing around him. Chris Morgan was a limited player when he had time on the ball, but was an absolute rock in our defence, even in the Premier League.

Nowadays, apart from the 'givens' like heading, strength and tackling ability, the other desired attribute is pace. If you haven't got pace, then you're going to need to be brilliant at reading the game, ie positioning, decision making and anticipation.

Jags wasn't / isn't the greatest passer of the ball either.

Horses for courses, for now, and possibly the next season or two, EEL would form a good defensive partnership with JOC. Sometimes a change of environment, with a different, dare I say improved manager, to assess, analyse, and help improve his weaknesses, might be just what EEL could do with. We've been without decent defensive cover for so long it's refreshing to have a unit, lead by Wright, who know how to do their job. They're still learning, but that's the manager's job, and CW will make sure that they respond in exactly the way he wants.

Id like to have him at the Lane for the rest of the season on his loan deal and then take stock in the summer. If we dont go up then id love to het him signed permanently but appreciate that it would be unlikely re transfer fee and wages. If we go up id like us to sign him (not love us to) as i think he is young enough to potentially grow into a top asset for us though he might struggle at first in the championship. Playing as a pair i feel he would really struggle to begin with, as part of a threesome (no ched comments please) i think he would be a well capable lad in the championship as he matured. Either way id like him to be signed...but on our terms and we shouldnt be held over a barrell. Those days have hopefully gone.

Totally agree with Weasel.

Also let's not forget some players just play better under certain managers and with certain colleagues.
Coutts looks much much better now that he has Fleck and Duffy next to him.
EEL might be playing great because he has Jake Wright sweeping up behind him.
Also playing in a winning side, confidence is high and everyone improves.

EEL is still young so is likely to improve over time.

If we fail to gain promotion then there's no chance he'll sign. He'll go to a lower end Championship club.
But if we go up then unless someone comes in with a rediculous bid then I expect us to sign him.

Except when he was full of intent against Gerard.....
Didn't Rob 'Greaseball' Styles say in an interview that he had interpreted the rules correctly and it was just a matter of time before other Refs followed his his example?

I must have missed it. Pity he wasn't retained on the list long enough to enjoy the glory.

No question EEL has defended well for us and has made a difference but I always feel there's a mistake in him and if we do get promoted hope that Wilder will be looking for someone better.

If he's looking for someone who's never going to make a mistake, then we'll be waiting a long for a signing.
Didn't even Steven Gerrard give a goal to France a few years ago?
