I'm not daft enough to think promotion is a certainty and obviously at the start of the season I would have accepted promotion by any means, but as the season stands now- winning the league has become EVERYTHING to me.
Being 31 means I've only witnessed one promotion, but being that age also means I've seen United win the grand total of fuck all. Unless you count "most play off final defeats" as a feather in our cap?

I don't know whether I've always felt this way or the Bolton factor has played it's part but I want... no, I NEED us to win this league.
I want to win it for Wilder,
I want to win it for Sharp,
I want to win it to spite Wednesday,
I want to win it for my dad,
I want to win it because of how much Bolton moaned about their ticket allocation, Madine on twitter, their manager slagging us off, their fans attacking ours outside the ground and how much Le Fondre pissed me off diving around the whole second half...

I need to win it though because its the first season my little one has had a kit.
I need to win it because this is the season my grandad didn't see the end of and I keep saying we are going to win the division for him,
and I NEED to win it so my team can finally be the bride and for once not be the bridesmaid.

Finally, I think we will. We are 4 points ahead of Bolton (a team we recently played off the park) and there's supporters already resigning themselves to accepting second place. Why? What has Wilder done this season to make you think that we will fold under pressure or that he doesn't want to go up as champions as much as we do? He's a winner, our team are beginning to enjoy being winners too. We are eternal underdogs and pessimists but our attitude can get us over the line. We don't have to brag and gloat like Leeds and the pigs but let's try a bit of optimism.

This is already my most enjoyable season I've witnessed. Get behind the boys, don't panic if we drop a point or two, and let's get out of this league in style!

I'm not resigning myself to coming second (ohh matron) but I've posted elsewhere it's a possibility, were scraping results and going behind in almost every game, like it or not sharp is on a poor run right when we don't need it..

They always let you down..... so just focus on promotion.....and you won't be let down, try to see the title as icing on a cake.. I am..

A lot of people have said "I'd take second now". I'm one of them.

Of course we'd all like to win the league. But given the league table now, with a theoretical chance that we could still drop into 3rd, and I'd take second place in a heartbeat if the alternative was seeing what the final few games holds in store.

Our ambition this season was promotion, no more and no less. As others have said, the title would be a bonus but that's all.

As we walked out yesterday I heard one fan say "As long as we go up I don't care if it's in 2nd place".
Sorry but I do. Watching my team hold aloft the 4th Division is still one of the best memories I have. We have been top for a couple of months now and I would be guttered to be pipped by the likes of a physical second rate Bolton and there pathetic chairman and whinging manager. I want the likes of Wilder and Billy to have a medal they've earned with there boyhood club and the same for the rest of the players because they've bloody well earned it........ and so have our fans after 5 years of pain and frustration. I'm trying not to getahead of myself but I'd be very disappointed to lose it from here

I can't be bothered to trawl back through old threads... but I am sure that when Wilder took over the chatter was that we needed to stabilise the Club, start building the team. And I am quite confident that last August our hope was for promotion, but not necessarily our expectation.

I just want this team ours out of this division.

That's exactly the case, we have overachieved in the boardroom with our dealings, in the teams management and play, we're going up in a season where we just wanted to see the green shoots at the start of something, let's chill out a bit and stop putting pressure on winning it, all of us to a man would have been happy with this, but now it seems the title must be claimed .. ffs I wanna win it too, but going up is a dream come true after all the false dawns...

I do think there is an element of greed resulting from our over achievement so far in people wanting no less than 1st place. I'd have taken 2nd in a heartbeat at the start of the season and it remains as such.

As somebody said yesterday; promotion first, cake later.

Sorry but I do.

Agreed - you enter a competition to win.

The league has been ours to lose for a while now, and it's still in our hands- with by far the easier games than Bolton.

Ask CW if he wants to finish 2nd - think most of us know what the answer would be.

I understand Sponge.... it would be a fantastic sight to see us lift the title but promotion is ALL that matters.

Promotion is a MUST. The title is a BONUS.

WE'RE NOT FANNYING AROUND THIS TIME!!

I can't understand anyone just accepting 2nd now - it's basically the lowest we can finish, realistically. 10 points clear with 7 to go, and Fleetwood are stuttering.

It's far too long since we won a division. When will we next win a division? Some of us will never see us do it if we don't this season.

Wilder will want to win it more than anyone and that gives me confidence that we will.

I agree with the OP. Finishing second now would feel like a failure.

Bolton have some difficult fixtures to complete. Southend away will not be easy, and they still have to play Scunny away. We have an easier run in based on league standings, sure there will be an odd slip but I can't see Bolton getting enough points to overhaul us.

HH

I wouldn't feel so bad about getting pipped if it was Fleetwood in the title chase with us. There's something about Bolton this year that's got my back up - the fans, their style of play, their massive debt, the needle we've had with them, and the fella who got glassed..........I'm just desperate to win it over them.

No reason why we won't win it. We're clearly the best team in the league. We just need to keep doing what we're doing and if by any evil chance Clogton Hooferers somehow get more points we will just have to say well done through gritted teeth. But we won't because we will win it

I think over the season we deserve it, especially after the rubbish start, coyraww

We don't deserve anything yet, a season is 46 games long.

The most annoying thing is just how similar this Bolton team is to that Wednesday team from 2011-12 in the way they go about bullying teams.

Wouldn't surprise me if the bastards win every game from now until the end of the season just like those cunts did.

It`ll happen !

Don't think wilder would be happy going up 2nd listening to his interviews. Need to get some copies of Bolton forum up on changing room wall. Enough incentive there to fire the players up for last matches

Print this off CW and make every player read this before we play Millwall.

Cheers mate, I reckon CW will have better speeches than that up his sleeve, but I know he takes pride in our fans passion.

Yes
Most want promotion and that is the important thing

But I'm the same, I just think losing the title at this stage would be a bit of an anti climax

Put a slight downer on it

Only a slight downer but a downer nonetheless
