If we don't make at least the play off next season, DW and the entire squad want shooting. With Southampton getting promoted there's now only SWFC, Charlton and Huddersfield out of the teams in League One who even got average attendances in 5 figures last season and all of them less than ours. Everyone else got average attendances less than half ours.

As Revolution as said elsewhere in terms of resources, no other L1 team can match us and most of them have the same relation to us as Swansea have to Man Utd.

I'm sure The Swine were saying much the same last year.

I'm not sure attendences are a decent way of judging resource anyway. It kind of leaves out the other side of the story: debt.

Having said all that we really SHOULD make the play offs.

I don't doubt that is true.

But, in recent history we seem to have been pretty good at wasting resources when they have been comparatively plentiful.

The Robson squad should have cruised to promotion, but ended up closer to the drop zone. Whereas managers like Bassett and Warnock performed very well with limited resources.

Best invest in a few bullets now.

Our resources may be comparatively high, but so are our costs. Much of our expenditure is on contracted players who are paid far beyond their ability to earn it.

Even so, you have to look at our ability to attract the better players. If you were an up and coming League Two player offered a chance at League One level is there any club you would choose over SUFC - quite apart from the fact that we are likely to be a better long term bet than the likes of Bury and Wycombe, very few L1 clubs - if any - will offer higher wages than us.

I don't think it's just wages we can offer. And I don't want to get into a big club/little club argument, or appear to have an inflated view of our place in the football world, but playing at Bramall Lane in front of 15,000 people (or maybe higher if we do well) has probably got more appeal than playing at say, Spotland in front of 3,000-4,000, not meaning any disrespect to Rochdale.

It's just the way things are. Likewise, who would want top play for us when they're offered a contract at Spurs (as with the two Kyles).

Hope you're right. But gravity has a firm grip on us I fear.
