So it seems like its gonna be announced tomorrow, will you back him??

Probably the most positive move. of all the rumoured managers linked with us Weir probably has the best potential.

It'll be interesting to see his style of play and whether, as a defender, he sets us out not to lose

If he's the man then I'm behind him

A journalist's dream. James Shield will already be hard at work getting all the headlines for his managerial interviews for the season.

"Weir: All in this together"
"Weir: Going Up"
"Weir: On the Way to Wembley"
"Weir: Disappointed"

Absolutely I will. No idea how it will pan out, I think our current playing staff and very limited capacity to improve it would hinder even the best of managers but I'll certainly give Weir my full backing if he gets the job.

It's not just a question of whether Weir is good for SUFC - he must have considered whether SUFC is the right club for him as the first rung of the managerial ladder. He could have dipped his toe into the water by managing a Conference side, but he chose the Blades, a club with a relatively big following and good potential. He'll start with a modest budget and nobody will blame him if it doesn't work out.

I think the appointment is ideal for both parties – and well done to the Club for biding their time and getting such a strong candidate for the job.

It looks as though he's got it. Although with United i'll never count my chickens until the press conference is announced.

It's a strange feeling really. I was certainly not advocating Morgan and Page for the job given the lack of experience. Weir has the same amount of experience as both of them, yet I feel more confident at the thought of him at the helm.

Is it because he's played for bigger clubs and at a higher level? History tells us that better players don't necessarily make better managers, so why am I still preferring the thought of him at the helm than Chris or Rob?

I really don't know. Maybe like Mr McCabe, I'm a sucker for a name!

I'd have preferred someone with a bit more experience, with a record to look upon. But we dont' have that, and the club have decided to look for youth rather than experience.

Weir for me is the best of a bad bunch, based on playing career alone.

I'll back him, but he's got a very very tough job on his hands. Tougher than Wilson had when he arrived in my opinion.

He wouldn't be my choice but if he gets the job good luck to him.
It will be an exciting day for the lad when he gets to hand in his first ever team sheet.
I'm especially looking forward to seeing the cream of Man Utd and Everton's Reserves turning out for us.
My one remaining hope is that this dour, solid defender gives us attacking, exciting football to watch.

Wembley
Wembley
Weir the famous Sheff United
And Weir shit at Wembley

Seriously though, I'll be pleased if and when Weir is confirmed. No baggage from previous failures, keen to impress and hopefully a few contacts for decent quality loans.

I would like to think Weir has more qualities to bring than simply having contacts! I suspect he would too.

No way. I'll be keeping as far away from Bramall Lane as possible.

He was alonost part of a legendary Celtic back three Weir-Tebily -Scheidt
I was always disappointed Celtic never played the back four of Naylor Balde Fanni O'Dea. :-)

As for Weir I am surprisingly happy. I would have liked a manager with some experience (but not Appleton!) and i wanted someone who has no previous links to the club (ok pre season last season doesn't count) but out of all the names mentioned I feel happiest about Weir. Cannot pinpoint why. It might all be relative, but I feel reasonably positive.

100% behind this appointment and if it doesn't happen I would want Page.

Not sure I could have backed Morgan 100% but I would have given him a chance. I don't think I could have coped with Appleton though.

I'm behind him. Feel strangely optimistic about this appointment but he is not a miracle worker and will still have most of the same players that failed last year. I imagine that he can attract a couple of good senior players to the club and supplement that with a couple of good loans. He will still have to learn quickly the lower leagues and the players that are available to him. If he bought in 2 experienced pros, 2 young prospects and 2 loans before the season starts then our squad should be OK depending on who we sell. Next season should really be seeing Whitehouse and Kennedy breaking through or they will have to be released.

Absolutely.

Considering some of the other rookie managers with sod all trophies and contacts and the experienced failures that have been linked, David Weir is the one that stands out to me. Optimistic about this, if it happens, because as far as gambles on unproven guys go, this one seems to be grounded in sensible reasons. Leader at Everton and Rangers, won plenty (albeit in the SPL but he knows what it is like to win things), good contacts and well respected by most. These qualities put him higher than Page/Morgs/Appleton/Downes/Boothroyd for me. Gamble, obviously, but a calculated gamble. If it works, it will be inspired.

Liking the Kris Boyd rumour too. If he comes, at a fair price, and his attitude improves (why not for his mate?), then he will bang them in at League 1. Issue would be if he came and his attitude stunk like Johnny Vegas' jockstrap on a Sunday morning but, an if obviously, if Weir gets him in and is a mate, attitude should be OK.

Waiting for the cruel bad news that he has changed his mind!

If there's any substance to the Boyd rumours then surely we have to get him on a short term contract. Yes there's the risk he could go for peanuts in January if he starts banging them in but on the other hand we don't wanted to be lumbered with him for two years if he couldn't care less.

Very positive if it's Weir. For once we've not gone for the tried and failed (which is 90% of managers), a new broom and all that.

Not sure I can get over it.

Would be happy if he shores up the midfield by appointing Phil Neville as the new captain.

Has to be the best option of all those names bandied about. Connections, respect, has to be a decent shout IF he accepts.
