Will Paddy bottle it?

I gave up work in a well paid position to spend more time with my family. I'm a million miles away from these types financially. You cannot say that "you'd do exactly the same" to me.

How footballers put the highest buck beyond all other measures is beyond me. Why the public excuses their actions bemuses me.

Slightly different scenario for me that Alco.

You decided you didn't want to work anymore in that role and I assume were well off enough to already to make that decision.

A footballer or manager asking for a pay rise or new contract is not for the same as a decision to 'downsize' or whatever it is you did.

I totally take your point about Ashley Cole for example saying he is being treated like a joke when Arsenal were paying him £65k a week but if yiu are best left back in world and other world class players are on 90k then like I would be at work if a colleague was gettkng more for doing less most people would be pissed off.

The best way to show contempt for Paddy and the way he took the money and ran would be simple. When he runs over to the Kop all smiling and laughing, we should turn our backs on him. No singing, no chanting, no clapping. Just turn our backs on him, the way he turned his back on us. That would hurt him more than any abuse.

Definately the best think to do in my opinion. Ignore him, turn the other way. Some of the songs on here made me chuckle however and i'm sure some of the less educated of our fans will spout some vile crap towards him. Some folk are just looking for an excuse to chant abuse, it wouldn't matter who or what the circumstances. Turning away from him will have more of an effect.

I'll tell you what would be nice though. United 3-0 up by the second half and cruising, and three sides of Bramall Lane singing 'there's only one Paddy Kenny'. That would be bloody lovely.

Interesting debate. If I may add my opinion to this, I disagree with the above. I know that won't surprise you mic, but I promise its not because of our disagreement on other issues..........

Ive debated this with friends before and I can honestly say that I have never cared one little bit about what a colleague has earned. The thought of comparing my salary to someone else has never even entered my head and ive never understood that mentality for a moment. Ive worked with people on a lot less than me and with people on a lot more than me and I couldn't give a toss either way (hand on heart). Footballers at that level are greedy and immoral - its as simple as that.

Perhaps my view of this would smack of a lack of ambition, but it has never hampered my ability to earn a living or to "move up the ladder" so to speak. I once had a conversation with someone who claimed a person in a similar position to me was earning a third more (per annum) and it genuinely didnt bother me at all. It surprised me but I didnt then go hunting for a pay rise using that as justification for it. I just think well that's nice for them but I'm ok so I'll earn a pay rise through doing my job as well as I can. I'll ask for one when I feel I deserve it and when I need it. I've never been a green eyed monster and that's probably why footballers disgust me so much.

I don't want this to seem like I'm on a high horse or taking the moral high ground because I know everyone is different, whether it be footballers or average joe's like the rest of us. But I just dont see why the amount another player/person is earning makes anything different. I'm trying to get my head round it more than anything so please enlighten me, in the context of football obviously..........

Let me finish this for you Axel...

... followed by the last 5 mins with us clinging on for a 3-3 draw and Paddy coming up for a corner in the last minutes

Bizarrely, I agree. As a good socialist, what matters is equity and justice. The absolute amount is less relevant than the relative amount.

(but Cole is still a two hat)

:)

I don't understand what point you're making there, but anyway..........

If Warnock feels the situation will be any sort of distraction for Paddy and his other players (i.e. too much pressure for instance) he might take the view that leaving Paddy out would avoid this. If he's smart (and I tend not to give him that much credit), he will realise that playing another keeper would take the sting right out of the home crowd.

I do think he will play though, because having started his no.1 last week and no talk of an injury up to now, it would be too obvious to leave him out now.

Point is, you mentioned Warnock bottling it before, but he only 'bottled it' insofar as not going as attacking as some of our fans would have liked.
It'll give us a massive advantage if we 'intimidate' Kenny out of playing and will show them both up to be honest.

I think Paddy will be motivated by the abuse and seem to recall some of his best performances were at times when was getting a lot of flack. Let's not forget he's got one of the best mentors available to coach him in 'how to deal with being unpopular'. I'll be surprised if he doesn't play.

The most effective response would be to turn your back, but only if everyone did the same.

What I "object" to is the ongoing comparisons with footballers and the general public, who somehow seem very willing to excuse extreme greed. Earning hundred's of thousand's, if not millions per year, does afford you choices that the general public can't make. The often used "you'd leave your job if somoeone offered you £1K per week extra" never really washes with me.

These insinuations about Warnock really piss me off.

I know lots about Warnock, but I'm certainly not posting it on the internet. But if you care to drop into the Cremorne for a beer before a game one day, I will happily share it with you Mic.

I do agree, but I did understand the "disrespect" comments from Cole, even if they were horribly misjudged.

I earn respectable money in my job, but I know a number of colleagues (usually newer recruits) who earn up to 25% more than me yet don't have the experience or skills I do. I'm happy with my money, but unhappy with the lack of consistency.
