Wilder needs to remember where he was before SUFC

Do contracts count for nothing these days? Are they just a one sided agreement? Somebody tell me because whenever I've had one I've been expected to serve my time and give my notice, not just walk away from something because I didn't like it.
And our club has a history of honouring its side of a contract, just ask Nigel Adkins, Nigel Clough, David Weir, Danny Wilson, Kevin Blackwell, etc.

Those individuals will have been paid up for the termination of their employment.

Ever thought he is not doing this to serve himself. He could walk into a better job tomorrow.
Perhaps he is trying to push the owners into showing some ambition or fucking off and allowing somebody who does to take over.

I'm all in favour of Wilder staying.

At first I was all in favour of his actions, now I'm of the opinion that he should have contacted the owners and carried out the discussions privately. Even if he didn't contact them personally I am sure he has an agent working on his behalf.

My concern is that the relationship we have had for 2 seasons is now tainted.

They were honoured, by negotiating exit agreements.

I think SUFC need to remember where they were before Wilder. Up shit creek without a paddle and not a sign of any driftwood.

I’m amazed that some fans seem upset because Wilder has told it as it is he thinks it is. For years we’ve bemoaned our crap managers who lied through their teeth to us, probably so as not to upset the hierarchy, and now we’ve got our best manager in years who says it as it is and suddenly he’s become part of the latest debacle.

As Chris would say I’m not ‘avin it. I personally back his stance and what he’s said so far 100%. It’s like a breath of fresh after the bullshit that we’ve been fed before.

I can't believe our board haven't spoken with Chris , having said that I hope he is not turning into Colin .

Top man Gray, some on here seem to have a Victorian idea that being employed equates with being shackled to a club, therefore raising an opinion or idea is viewed as a revolutionary concept. The problem lies with the board, and if the limited facts are to be believed, the Prince has let himself down by not delivering on a budget that would give Wilder the opportunity to wheel and deal with the best this division has to offer. Like most sane Blades, I don't think we would expect tens of millions to be spent/blown on players, but wouldn't it be nice to think that we were serious about signing a forward for upwards of £5 million? As things stand we resign ourselves to scraps, sometimes good scraps, but always the same tired recipe of players who don't seem to interest other clubs. Sometimes we're lucky, look at Duffy, Fleck, or JOC, all players who've blossomed and turned into quality assets. Why we struggle with owners who are relative paupers compared to other clubs escapes me. With all this club has to offer - a fan base that could easily surpass 30K if we were successful, generally good infrastructure that needs money spent on it etc - we should be viewed as an attractive proposition to some wealthy bugger, but hey ho, we can but hope. UTMB!

I think we're all making the mistake of trying to think what Wilder would do when we would be better off thinking what we would do. We have two bosses fighting for control, one who has insufficient money but likes Wilder and the other who has potentially unlimited money but would prefer a foreign "name". My bet would go on the guy with the most money to come out the winner in the boardroom struggle.

So this comes back to what would I do? I'd be thinking I've got nowt to lose so fuck 'em and I would say my party piece, get fired and receive a nice pay-off. My reputation with the fans would be untarnished and I would then move on to Sunderland for double-bubble.

Don't say you wouldn't.

There's much in what you say. The Prince seems almost blind to what has happened since Wilder became manager. He, the Prince, was here when Clough and Adkins steered our ship, so why he's unaware of Wilder's quality and what could happen under his management is mystifying. With the right financial support we could become an established Premiership club, and Wilder has all the qualities to build this club into something very special.......if he's given the chance.

The Prince said this in October, it's hard to imagine anybody being more complimentary: “Chris loves Sheffield United,” Prince Abdullah said. “He is ‘one of us’ as they say. But I am not daft enough to think Chris is not an ambitious guy. He is loyal but ambitious and so are we. We must match those. I say to my friends: ‘I want him to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson.’ I want him to be here for 15 to 20 years.”
“Look at the record over two and a half years,” Prince Abdullah, a former president of Saudi club Al-Hilal, said. “I think he is a good guy above everything else. I feel that I can trust him. I have worked with some really big name coaches; Eric Gerets, Cosmin Olaroiu and now Chris. I really like him. I like his attitude, he is honest. He is a great coach but he will grow to be even a better coach.”

What a crock of shit. How is he blind to it? Have you had a chat with him?

He said in an interview this season he was ‘one of us’ and that he’d done a great job and he could be ‘our Alex Ferguson’

Not only that, his man Jules Van Winkel said on twitter after the defeat to Barnsley that Chris was a tremendous manager.

Jeez, you do rattle on!!!

I'm not even going to get engaged in your straw man nonsense. You debate/argue like a child. You accuse for no other purpose than you are otherwise clueless and have no understanding of rational discussion. By all means knock yourself out and accuse all you want, there's clearly no end to the lengths you're prepared to go to in order to get a rise. Good luck Eric, thick as two short planks, but who doesn't look kindly on a dog that's in need of a welcoming home?

So to clarify... no answer then?

I think you should retract your comments about the Prince because quite frankly, they’re bollocks.

Chris has been the 'patsy' left to run the club and face the media while given little information and direction. For me, his recent outburst has been to publicly put the views of the majority of the fans and staff and to give the joint owners a kick up their arses.

While it would seem obvious that both owners want success for the club - and increase the value of their asset - but they each want to go down a different route. Which one would bring success is open to debate. But what is a fact is that to do neither and just stand still is not the answer.

Fuck me, you do think a lot of yourself.

Firstly, to paraphrase your own comments, you know the Prince then? Otherwise how can you discredit my observations? You've selectively chosen a few posts/tweets etc and used these as absolute arguments that you feel offer you a complete set of opinions.

If you're unhappy with what I say then sue me. But the whole point of this forum, due to the good graces of the owners, is the free expression of opinion, you get that don't you?
You've confused not agreeing with my opinions with an absolutist's view that to say something that differs from your own opinions is tantamount (sorry, long word) to getting solicitor's involved.

By all means disagree, but don't try squeezing this lemon long after you've strangled it to death. Probably best if you ignore me, as whatever I write you'l interpret as 'bollocks'. The very last thing I want is to get entangled in a never ending, back and forth, equivalent of written tennis. Eric, I wish I could say this has been a pleasure, but you really are a tiresome pedant who has somehow lost his way.

You’ve written three paragraphs which basically say ‘I’m wrong but I refuse to admit it as I have the mindset of a child’

If you want the link to read about how much the Prince thinks of Chris it’s below.
How you interpret that as him ignoring him is beyond me... please do explain. I’m baffled.

I can tell you're baffled son. Like any sane-minded Blade let's wait until this blows over, then we'll all have a clue as to what direction the club and Wilder are going in. All you have are a few clippings from newspapers to validate your point of view. Let's see how this pans out first, uh? Before sacking a manager it's not uncommon for the board to give said manager a vote of confidence, so probably best if you can be patient before adopting your "I know best" position.

Yeah, right, okay. Prince Abdullah is clearly ignoring everything Chris has done as he states in those quotes.

Doubt Wilder is very happy about Van Winkel being there in the first place and would be unlikely to be impressed by anything he said.

The discussions here are subjective as far as whether CW would necessarily succeed elsewhere - the undeniable reality is that if he leaves the heartbeat of the club will have gone - his successor will have two chances to succeed slim and none - we will lose at least 3 quality players and it would be a great bet to immediately put serous money on us going down and Sunderland getting promoted - let’s be real CW is the magic dust and like someone posted yesterday watching this unfold is like watching a fatal car crash in slow motion - it is excecustribg in the extreme !!
Serious money

We all know Wilder is ambitious and would like to see that matched with the set-up and organisation of the club.

In my opinion I don't think Wilder's ambition and success here has brought about a sense of arrogance and entitlement yet, although it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that it has.

There is no question that he has done extremely well here. That said, from the outside he was given a job at a big club in league one with a significant budget for the division. Anything but promotion would have been considered a huge failure.

This season is different as we have punched above our weight, though dipped off significantly at the end which will have been noted from the outside.

If Wilder were to leave I have no doubt he could get some offers in the championship but there's no guarantee their projects and status will be much better than at ours. If he left now and say Norwich sack their manager in October could you really imagine him being their first choice and the fans being inspired by his appointment? How many championship clubs would want him? Perhaps:

Burton, Bolton, Barnsley, Birmingham, Reading, Hull, Forest, QPR, Ipswich, Millwall, Brentford, Preston. Do they really have more to offer than us?

Before SUFC Wilder has spent his time in the lower leagues, SUFC offered him a significant promotion and opportunity to progress his career.

Wilder has done well, but he's not as highly rated on the outside as we'd perhaps think. No larger clubs approached him even when we were flying.

Hope he stays of course, if he left would wish him all the best without resentment but wouldn't be surprised if things didn't work out.
