Who would you move on in the January transfer window?
I reckon Flynn,King,Westlake,Porter and maybe Doyle and Brandy if better alternatives are identified.
I would also move Howard on and recruit a good goalkeeper to challenge Long

Be a shorter thread If you'd asked "who wouldn't you move on"

Depends a bit on who is available to replace those that leave.

I would let King and Westlake go for starters, probably Lappin as well. I think we should keep Coady.

Can't decide about Porter. He is behind Taylor and Miller in the pecking order but ahead of Ironside in my book. The latter should go on loan for experience.

Agreed I would keep Long, Harry and Miller. To be honest I would not be disappointed with any of the others leaving.
Long is a decent keeper but as he is part of the England U-21 squad surely a prem or higher championship team would have signed him by now if they thought he would become a top class keeper?

That may be true but "top class" does not apply to us at present. I just want players that fit the "mildly competent" category as that would be a massive improvement.

2-Westlake
3-Williams (remember him?)
18 - King - with replacement (preferarably 2) ready and waiting
20 - McGinty. On loan?
21 - Bunn. Send back.
23 - Murphy. Back to Scotland, presuming he doesn't improve in the next 2 months (hope he does)
24 - Ironside. Loan

Clears a fair bit out. People like Johns, McFadz, Kennedy can also go out on loan, with a view to how well they do, as to whether they stay next season.

Beat me too it.

Long, Maguire, Baxter (ish), Hill (ish, for the heart), McGinn, Miller...........the rest, who cares.

Very worrying. I doubt the others are as shite as they look. Something's wring at our club, and we have to hope that Clough puts it right.

I totally agree there is something fundamentally wrong at the Blades. Hopefully Clough can get to the root cause.

Players I would keep:-

Long, Maguire, White, McGinn, Cuvelier, Baxter, Brandy (if he can learn to behave), Taylor, Miller, McGinty, De Girolamo

About 7 of those deserve to play. The other four have shown at least a small amount of potential or reasonable ability and are worth having a further look at. So that means we need seven decent signings to have a good match day squad when all fully fit.

As for the rest of the players, accept the first offer. Collins and McMahon are the only two I would reconsider just as squad players but they've struggled to convince me of late.

Doyle

Then we sign a midfield general. I thought Clough was going to bring in Jake Buxton from Derby?

As Hartley Hare says, I'm afraid we have to start with who we can bring in. As much as I dislike some of our players, one or two remain the least worst option. :(

Desperate times call for desperate measures and I would like to move on the following by any means possible (loans, paid up contracts, transfers etc:

Howard (transfer/pay up), Westlake (transfer/loan), Williams (payup/loan), McGinty (loan), Flynn (transfer), Doyle (pay up), Murphy (transfer), Ironside (loan), Porter (pay up/loan)and King (loan/payup).

If the right (i.e. ANY) offer comes in for, then move on:

McMahon, Collins.

Build a squad around:

Long, Maguire, Hill, Cuvelier, Baxter, McGinn, Taylor (ish) and Miller

Possible transfers in:

Callum Wilson (Coventry)
Chuks Aneke (Arsenal, available from 1st Feb to loan)
Conor Coady (extend loan)
Lewin Nyatanga (Once thought of highly at Derby, Barnsley reserve at moment)
Luke Freeman (Stevenage)

I agree with most of this again, however I am not willing to give up on Murphy just yet. The rest on your to go list yes.

to bring in I think there is no change we are gong to get Wilson now he has signed a new contract. so to add to your list

Aiden White - LB Leeds (make perm)
jamaal Lascelles - CB Nottingham Forest - Loan
Cyrus Christie - RB Coventry
Chuks Aneke (Arsenal, available from 1st Feb to loan)
Luke Freeman (Stevenage)
Conor Coady (extend loan)
Larnell Cole Attacking Midfield/winger (Man Utd)

That's the core problem though isn't it. Revolving door policy for players and managers is part of the problem we have. You can't keep clearing squads out every 6 months and changing managers every season. We have been in a downward spiral for years now and I think Cloughs biggest challenge is actually keeping us in this division rather than looking at the play offs.

To move players on another club are going to have to want them, can't imagine many clubs
clamouring for our players.

Also will be on a better wage here than they will get at any other club they are likely to join
so they will be reluctant to move.

Did Houso remember to include Doyle.;)

Realistically, not a snowballs chance in hell to get rid of all our dross: who in their right mind is going to sign the likes of Williams, Westlake and Ironside - no hopers!
Flynn, Murphy, Doyle,, Taylor, Howard, Porter, Collins, McGinty, Johns are all Division Four / Scottish League players at best
Brandy is a liability, King is a spent force - move them on or pay them off
Baxter, Cuvelier should be better than they are showing at present, Hill's a trier if nothing else and at present Long, Maguire and Miller are about the only ones that appear capable at this level - but nothing more!
In all a sorry state of affairs that we have accumulated so much sh!te - better than a maximum efficiency Sewage Farm !!

I know it is difficult moving players on,getting the right players in etc etc but we do need a major clear out!
Some of the players are under achieving and some are simply not good enough!
Brandy,Murphy,Flynn,Baxter etc should be performing a lot better than they are doing which is baffling as they need to impress the new manager to stay in his plans long term surely!
I think Mr Clough has got more work to do than he thought!

I would move all the troublemakers out, the Board know who they are. IMO we need to move out Collins, Doyle, McMahon, and King just for starters plus Porter, Williams, Ironside and probably Westlake and Brandy. Clough's certainly got his work cut out and I'm not sure I have the confidence in him to see us climb the table and stave off relegation. We actually have some decent players but for some reason they aren't gelling together. Sadly there's been a malaise about BL for far too long now. Get rid of the old guard, get someone in who's a leader and let the younger flair players express themselves, play to their strengths not just the system. We can't do any worse.
